The Marksman class really needs subclasses so that it can be balanced easier. So I made some.
The only class in the game that has no subclasses is Marksmen. Why this class has no subclasses when it definitely has clear divisions between the different types of champions in it is beyond me. Every Marksmen can't be balanced under the exact same items, there's something clearly different between what a Tristana wants to buy and what a Miss Fortune wants to buy. Having different subclasses would be the best way to balance out these classes, and to make it clearer what's actually good right now. So I've decided to make my own classifications and I'm going to put every Marksmen into one of these classifications. Also keep in mind that there is a lot of hybridization between the different subclasses because of the nature of ADC design. So let's just get right into it.
#Utility Carry
Utility Carries are Marksmen that focus on assisting their teammates while also dealing good damage. Their damage and carry potential isn't as high as the other Marksmen out there, but they can still deal immense damage if played well. How Utility carries assist their team changes heavily depending on the carry, and oftentimes two different Utility Carries can have two completely different ways of supporting their teammates. Despite that, there are general traits that Utility Carries have, although no Utility Carry has every trait listed. Traits of Utility Carries include:
- Mediocre/Bad Lane phases
- Strong/High Range crowd control
- Very high range on abilities. Average auto-attack range.
- Teamwide Utilities
- Ability to provide vision for their teammates.
- Can have Average mobility
- Insane Late game damage
#Hyper Carries
Hyper Carries are the ultimate in late-game power. These Carries generally have weak early games but incredible late games. Hyper Carries are generally very safe as well, as they can deal their damage from really far away. Traits of Hyper Carries include:
- Weak Lane Phases
- Good Crit scalings
- Longest Auto-attack range out of the whole class
- Generally some kind of self-peel (either by way of CC or mobility)
- Highest Damage late game
- Resets
#Bully/Bully Carries/Idk tf to call this class gimmie a name
Bullies like to trade their strong late game for a strong early and mid game. Bullies have very high dps early on and usually have some form of mobility, although it depends on the champion in question. Bullies have great all-in and trade potential due to their high damage early. They generally rely more on spells than other Marksmen. Because of their strong lane phases, Bullies tend to have a low range when compared to other Marksmen, and as such they usually have a more difficult time positioning during teamfights. Their damage also tends to fall off more when compared to other Marksmen, although they can still be a menace late game with proper itemization. Traits of Bullies generally include:
- Strong Lane Phases
- Good All-in potential
- Weak or non-existent cc
- Solid Mobility
- Low Auto-attack Range
- Mediocre Late game unless fed
So now that we've listed off all of the classes, let's categorize every ADC. Keep in mind that hybriziation is very common in this as ADC has been designed for the longest time as a single class with very lose catergorization, so there are several ADC's (generally the older ones) that have traits lifted from other classes. With that out of the way, let's start categorizing these Carries. If you disagree with me, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments and I might change this list if I end up agreeing with you. I don't call myself an expert in the realm of ADC's, so if any ADC mains want to make the list better I'll try to listen.
##Utility Carry
(He doesn't have any cc, but he does have the attack speed buff on his W. The main reason I put him here, however, is because his biggest strength is in poking down the enemy team and going in when the time is right. He doesn't have the DPS nor the range of Hyper Carries, but he does have decent poke and even good utility if you decide to get IBG on him.)
(I could be wrong on this one. Her late game doesn't seem as good as other Hyper Carries but she does have that root so I put her here. If you consider her ult a strong peel spell, she could theoretically be a Hyper Carry but you also often use the ult as a stun.)
##Hyper Carry
/ Hybrid Utility Carry (Cait is probably one of the more difficult ones to categorize in this list. She theoretically has the power to be in all three of these. Really good lane phase, Really good late game and safety, Good CC and zoning from traps to provide utility for her team. I decided to not make her a Bully because her all-in potential and DPS isn't as good as other bullies, and her mid game is quite mediocre. She also has way more range than other Bullies, so much so that her bully potential is much more focused on poke like other Utility Carries.)
/ Bully (Idk much about this champion either, since I never see her since her rework. But from what I've seen of her, her early game is decent and her late game is extremely good if she can get stack, which is why she is a Hyper Carry/Bully)
(Fairly Unique. She trades out a long range auto-attack for mobility and stealth with R. I debated whether or not to make her a hybrid bully since she is low range but has good mobility, but I decided against it since her early game is really bad. Although I'm sure with a good Vayne you can play her like a bully against certain matchups.)
##Bully
/ Utility Carry (I put her here because her late game is pretty bad due to her 90% damage reduction, but I can see her being able to bully and win early fights, and her mobility is really good. Her ability to save her support, initiate teamfights, and the vision from her W is what landed her as a Utility Carry. If any Kalista mains want to debate me on this, go ahead, becasue I don't know much about this champion's strengths so you will probably know more about her than I do.)
(Only if you build him with attack speed/on-hit items)
/ Assassin
(Same as kennen. Teemo with AP is more of a burst mage than a Marksmen)
##Other/Can't categorize this
(I simply don't know enough about this champion to put him into a role. If any Corki Players can put him into a role, I'll gladly put him there. The deal with Corki is that I don't know when he is at his best. Is he a good lane-phase champion, or a good late game scaler. I just don't play with or against this champion enough to say, he's almost never in any of my games even though I think he's top tier rn.)
(I'd argue that he really isn't even a Marksmen anymore. Instead he's a ranged Skirmisher, in the same way that Urgot is a ranged Juggernaut)
