Diamond solo queue is really bad right now. What's being done to fix it?

Yenn··14 votes·2,982 views

A lot of the players here right now are rolling balls of mistakes. This is really dumb. I expect everyone at Diamond to play at a Diamond level, but right now, only maybe 1/5 players are playing at the level they should be.

There are players with no awareness and bad mechanics. There are players who give up and AFK at first blood. There are players who get mad at something (not getting a buff, not getting a gank) and troll for the rest of the game. There are players who counter-pick themselves.

For example, I just had a LeBlanc go 0-5-0, say 'surrender at 20,' and then accused our Lee Sin of feeding and sat at the fountain for the rest of the game. Our Lee Sin was 1-0-2. Something like this happens in every single game, without failure.

We shouldn't be seeing any of this behavior at this level. I have literally not had even one good game, where all 10 players played well, since the beginning of S4. This is sad.

As an added bonus, guess who this person struggling to maintain Diamond V 0 LP is. http://imgur.com/dvQ48Jb

Yeah, working as intended. During the last team fight, our Talon was taking bottom inhibitor turret. He didn't start recalling until they were seconds away from ending. http://i.imgur.com/0ZnbBzy.png

So do you understand that ELO Hell exists in every tier now?

They aren't boosted. They're just bad, but it doesn't matter, because individual skill has no impact on games at the moment.

I was diamond 1/2 most of last season. Here I am struggling to carry people in plat 4 atm. I go 4-0 mid lane as Kat and I'm sitting here dealing with jungle/bot raging at each other because "one" gank didn't go there way. They threw the whole game. This is non stop every game.

People are playing champions for fun not to actually win. People aren't even taking ranked serious because "it's just preseason".

I'm not seeing any difference between pre-season and how it was during season 4.

I just played with two other people who I knew from D1, who are now stuck at D5 because they can't impact the outcome of the game.

No one is perfect at any level. Even pros make mistakes. Get over it and move on.

Nubeel7 votes

I think this is more about the toxicity and general attitude rather than the bad mechanics or skill.

Those might be the trigger but I think hes complaining about people ragequitting, feeding etc. due to it.

Honestly this shouldn't be acceptable at any level.

Sukishoo1 votes

If it was more about that, then why would the OP even say anything about the rest of that stuff? Clearly it's not.

And yeah, the AFKs, feeding, ect shouldn't be acceptable at any level but hey it happens. As again, nothing is perfect, all of these types of games have this kind of thing happen in them.

Nubeel1 votes

Well considering the amount of supposed skill one needs to make it to Diamond then it should be rare and not in every game. I also think that the AFK's, feeding etc. are a result of the mistakes and resulting frustration.

I guess people always expect the next tier to be better than the last and are then disappointed when it's just as shitty.

There aren't mistakes, these are bad players being carried by the current state of game balance.

I've watched a Riven die from ganks by junglers who the entire team saw coming ~10 seconds in advance, had full ward coverage of, pinged repeatedly, and explicitly typed out 'Get back, you're being ganked.' Not just once, but four times in a row. This is 100% unacceptable for any Diamond player, and this is not a rare occurrence. It happens constantly.

However, if this player happened to be ahead, they likely could have turned around and 1v2'd both top lane and the jungle successfully.

You may have missed the part where I've been playing since season 1 and been Platinum/Diamond after Diamond was added in every single season. I've been watching the quality of games go down the drain more and more with each season.

Funny when I look up your match history and only LB in a game I see was 7/9/1 and you're Lee was 1 / 7 / 2... so pretty sure they were right saying you were feeding.

Ciao.

Because I kept trying after she sat at the fountain, while the 5-0-0 Swain was more or less one shotting me. Afterwards, they kept diving our fountain.

Just had a game where the enemy team took my second blue with four champions; mid + bottom + jungle. I got out safely and dropped a ward. We also had a ward on dragon and bottom tri brush. Our ADC and support were sitting there, autoing the enemy tower. We watched four champions walk from my blue to bottom, with full ward coverage, while spamming pings. Zero reaction. They both just died under the tower.

Don't worry Yen. Those guys replying to your thread are mostly haters. Even though i'm just Silver i know your pain. Actually i've stopped playing rankeds after playing with waves of trolls and imbeciles.

Right now ppl flame me in game (aram mostly) "stfu silver" then feed like there's no tomorrow (yolo-solo 1v5). And I silver-noob somehow get positive K/D/A ratio while trying my best to play with my team.

I'm sure there's special place in hell for those guys. Whole ranked system just sucks.

pros made significantly less mistakes diamonds are expected to be making alot less mistakes than bronze

  1. If you care this much about competitive LoL then you really should join a team instead of playing solo-q. The only real thing people get out of playing ranked games is the end of year skin. Other than that, your solo-q ranking is pointless.

  2. If these people are as bad as you say they are then why is your ranking flat-lining instead of increasing?

  3. LoL is a public game. Riot can never really control who you get matched with, they can't make it so every match is balanced and challenging. That's why we have competitive e-sports competitions.

Skill is 95% irrelevant with the current state of game balance. One bad player can and always does lose the game for their entire team, and there's no way to offset this. It's no longer a contest of which team plays better, it entirely comes down to waiting and seeing which team has the worst player.

I just had a game where our Caitlyn walked straight into unwarded jungle where the entire enemy team went not five seconds earlier. Support tried to save her. They both died, enemy team pushed the resulting 5v3 and ended. It didn't matter that our Twisted Fate was 18-3; this one player threw the entire game.

Riot can take steps to enforce a certain level of quality at certain ratings, which they aren't doing, or shift balance away from 100 to 0'ing someone in 3 seconds, so that bad players are punished for bad plays.

I'd like to point out that it's pre-season, and people, as in EVERYONE is getting used to the new meta

But this problem is well known for at least a year. Players skill doesn't match his/her elo at all.

For example in Silver I used to play before stopping playing rankeds completely

  • I had to play with guys that didn't even know how some abilities of their champions worked. Seriously.
  • sometimes had to to face plat players who totally wrecked my team.

I'm not saying i'm PRO myself(!). But i beieve if i had serious teams i'd be around Gold II. That's my mmr level in ARAM games (100~champion account, never dodging, always playing champion i get)

Something needs to be done either to make it so the outcome of the game doesn't come down to which team has the worst player 9/10 times, or if balance is going to stay like this, there needs to be a way to flag consistently unskilled players.

In Dota, the best player wins the match. This is because Dota doesn't try to prevent snowballing. Snowballing is how a good player gets far enough ahead before the bad player can throw.

Yenn2 votes

This is ridiculous.

I should be rewarded for playing well. As it stands, I have a net zero impact on the outcome of the game, no matter what. It all comes down to who has the worst player.

As it stands, I can tell whether my team is going to win or lose within the first 10 minutes, because I've already spotted that one player who's inevitably going to lose the game for their team, and I can't do anything to stop it.

Yenn2 votes

Current 3-14 in ranked. Zero impact on the outcome of the game. Four of these games were lost by intentional feeding.

Maybe it's preseason. I had a Riven call me cancer, reason? She failed to notice my 3 MIA's I pinged and died. She and our Khazix proceeded to verbally abuse our team the entire game while refusing to communicate with calls. At end game screen when i asked for her and Khazix to be reported for verbal I got the message informing me MY behavior wasn't in lines with what was expected blah blah blah.

I think I'm going to just wait until the reason starts personally.

Currently playing with a pro who's struggling to maintain Diamond V 0 LP. It's all good, though.

I nearly made it to challenger before, and I don't think there's a flaw with the system like you describe. First, I would go on win streaks of 8+ games just as often as I'd go on a lose streak of 8+ games. Maybe these people you encounter are just not in the right mindset.

Secondly, there are a lot of ways to be good at the game. Personally, I would get hit by every skillshot and lose lane almost every single time. But after lane phase ended, I would murder people while they were rotating. Despite my lack of mechanical skill, I could compete with challenger players because of superior strategy. You don't have to be good at everything to get to diamond or challenger. This game is incredibly complex, and there is enough that you can excel in that you can makeup for your faults. So, maybe your unskilled teammate is skilled at something you weren't paying attention to.

I've had my issues with climbing as well. I've hit the dreaded 40-48 LP in Gold 1 many many many times, only to go on a losing streak, dropping me to Gold 2. That has been the story of my season 4/pre-season run. It also doesn't help when players justify their bad play because its just "pre-season"

I sit in mid silver and got a (deserved) 2 week ban, and played on my girlfriend's account in mid gold. Zero difference. Pretty depressing to hear it's like that all the way up, honestly...

Quality of diamond has been going downhill ever since the end of S3.

Before my MMR got rekt I had "diamonds" tunnel visioning mid-lane, overextending, not backing after securing an objective and having no real reason to stay there and get deathballed, etc.

Dissapointing isn't enough a word.

Yenn1 votes

I just had an entire team surrender a completely winnable game, because we lost a 'team fight' where two people got picked off. These players are so unskilled that they can't tell whether a game is winnable.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Hmm well i guess i dont mind not being promoted then, if it really doesn't get rid of the trolls then there is no point to ranking up. I would probably be well into Gold maybe Plat (i know Gold an Plat are not all that special but they better then Silver -_-) if it werent for trolls. I get to my promos, relatively troll afk feeder free, but the moment i hit Promos from Silver I to Gold V, matchmaking is like "Hmmm i wonder if he can still win when we give him 2 trolls/feeders and an AFk" every single time. Seriously i would get to my Promos lose all of them then win all games back to my Promos... After the 5th time i lost my Promos i said fuck it and stopped trying, ended up getting demoted twice :(.

Riot i know you can do nothing about feeders and trolls (other then ban them), but can you at least match me up with people who have consistently shown they are not feeders or trolls? We all have our bad games and bad days, but when someones match history shows them as 1/20 in 5 out of 10 of the last played games then can you please not give me 3 of them?

Xonra1 votes

The problem right now is Riot is balancing by just tossing things at the wall and see what sticks best, and even then keeps chunking stuff.

So you have people that abuse WW for a few days, or a mechanics like easy kiting Dragon for a few days, then suddenly they can't take advantage of exploit things and they have to actually play and they can't.

With things fluctuating so much people try to jump on the broken pre-season things until Riot changes them and they climb when really it isn't skill making them rise it is abusing a broken set of ...well a lot of things right now. So someone who should probably be in Plat 3 exploits (yes broken as WW and level one pantheon doing Dragon IS an exploit, I'm sorry), but they get to Diamond 5, then when it gets fixed they are exposed and start getting wrecked by players who actually belong in Diamond.

It unfortunately happens in every division, or at least is right now, and the afks and dcs just make the problem more frustrating.

Xonra1 votes

...and of course the MAIN issue as you've stated a few times is...especially this season (thanks Riot) is that the game is less about who is better and is more about which team sucks less. It is very backwards.

For years you would hear "carry harder" but that doesn't help anymore. You can't push as your teammates are failing then you die pushing because your teammates won't

You can't take all the dragons when no one on your team is trying and all 5 enemy players are

You can't push to win with the game 5 v 3 half the game with your teammates feeding like they are trying to cure world hunger.

The game really is no longer about being better (in solo queue at least) it is about who has less of the bad players. ! player can no longer win the game but one BAD player can lose it.

Yenn1 votes

I've had one player in five games now. Aside from raging and telling everyone to kill themselves all game, he either gets a level 3 all-in kill and snowballs, or dies and feeds. Regardless, he plays extremely poorly. If he didn't snowball, he's guaranteed to cause his team to lose. If he did snowball, he'll still potentially cause his team to lose.

This player has no business being at Diamond, but the successful level 3 cheese allows him to play like an idiot without being punished.
