Have you ever been afk in-game because of real life emergency?

Linda de Mol··16 votes·10,842 views

One time I was in a ranked game, and after around 10 mins into the game I felt suddenly my stomach turning around. I tried to ignore it but it got worse and worse.

I knew I had to see a toilet fast. And because I use a desktop and not a laptop I had to go afk otherwise I would've ruined my pants.. got back 15 mins later and we eventually lost. I felt kinda guilty but what could I do [zombie-brand-mindblown]

Life always comes first. Don't feel bad about those incidents.

shit happens. I can understand those types of emergencies as opposed to "shit I fed 4 kills in 3 minutes lemme rq"

like lol tell me your gran fell down the stairs, or a baby is crying or you just gotta take a shit, beats the silent and obvious rq any day.

Yes.

I was physically threatened by someone I care about. I had to restrain them. We both ended up hurt.

It was one of the worst days of my life, but we moved past it and it was an isolated incident.

Yes. My bunny was dying and I chose to spend my time with her instead of playing, obviously.

That was a terrible day.

Should have soiled your pants, dedication to the W

If you afk in a game rarely, it is acceptable to afk. I've had to afk before, the system is good

Yeah but what did they know that you didn't? Do you want to know what it's like to be cuddled by a giant version of yourself?

But really tho, every joke has a time and place, you know.

No but the enemy team was, I was playing a blind pick game and because the enemy jg had counterpicked me so I was playing poorly, but here's the weird thing, their adc MissFortune was also playing poorly, I just thought they were genuienly bad at the game, later into the game we were pushing mid, when we realized that the enemy team wasn't coming to stop us even though they were all fed, we soon realized they were all afk. We asked what was going on and if I remember correctly they said that the MissFortune had gone unconscious and they had to call an ambulance, I'm not sure but if I had to guess I think they were at an internet cafe? And they were all afk irl trying to get an ambulance for the ADC.

There was once where I was in a similar situation where my stomach started turning the instant my game loaded and everyone was in the SR, as if on cue. I had to tell my teammates that I had to leave to finish the business.

Then there was once my apartment's fire alarm went off. I had to leave then as well. Though good news is that it turned out it was just an old lady in the apartment complex accidentally burned her grilled fish that was supposed to be her dinner that it triggered the fire alarm of the building because it was smoke everywhere from the oven; nothing was damaged (besides the fish) and no one was harmed. If you are also wondering, a good neighbour went and bought her dinner as well so she didn't go through the night without food.

My town had a Local Fire that caused the Whole power on the west side of town to go down, WHich I was apart of. It was down for about 12 hours.

Well, yea. Someone passed away when I was playing.

Couple years ago in an ARAM game, I got told that the fence gate had been open and the dog was missing. He wasn't a young dog, but he was still a Jack Russel, so he could go fast. I had to drop everything and run out to try and find him. Got back and we lost, and my friends who were in the game told me that someone got upset that I left.

I once had to AFK in CoD because my cat got out. Don't think I ever did it in ranked aside from the quick 5 minute shit.

Very few times. Less then 10 in 9 years of playing.

There was a fire in a neighbors flat, the entire building had to be evacuated. Turned out one of the old TVs straight up exploded, the fire could be extinguished by my neighbor though.

More than once I had to abandon a game to take a shit. I've also left unwillingly a number of times due to power outages.

You don't get a serious punishment for AFKing once in a while. But if you have something like an infirm family member that needs frequent attention, maybe play a less demanding game...

A few years ago when I was playing a game my mom thought she swallowed a small piece of glass so we had to run to the emergency room. The game was 7 minutes in and I apologized to my team and told them quickly I had to go to the hospital for my mom and my team thankfully seemed very understanding and said it was all good. This was just norms though so no stakes. My mom turned out fine by the way. Was likely just her anxiety causing the sensation.

LegacyDAP1 votes

Obviously it sucks for your team and they have every right to be upset, but I'm pretty sure most will have empathy with you if there is genuinely a real life emergency. When those real life emergencies become a habit that's when I tell people they should probably consider sticking to normals as to not ruin the game for 4 other people on a consistent basis.

ArthimetesArto1 votes

Yeah

I lived with my uncle who had very frequent seizures and on multiple occasion on my old account (that i forgot in login to) I had to drop the game because he started a seizure. They could last a couple minutes or up to half an hour, more often than not closer to half an hour.

I remember this happening often enough to get me leaverbustered.

Rito pls. (sarcasm im not actually mad at rito)

After my son was born I quit League for a while. When he fell into a routine he was on a 4 hour cycle. Wake, eat, get some attention, be up for about 45 mins more...1 hour total, then sleep for 3 hours. During the 3 hour period I would try and play LoL.

Normally all was well, but about once a week he'd wake up during that time and start crying. I'd need to go and help him back to sleep, give him attention, whatever.

When saying "sorry, guys. My son just woke. Gotta go assist" or something to that effect, no one ever had a problem with it. Then again, I was only playing ARAMs during that point in time. Didn't want to AFK ranked for any reason, and ARAMs were shorter back then, than SR games were, too. (3-4 years ago)
