Grievous Wounds Rework.

We need to update Grievous Wounds.

Shield meta is carrying the self-heal meta, and taking a swing at the burst meta. Of course, I'm okay with that. But when you have someone like Kai'sa or Ekko with a massive shield that you can just honestly call semi-invulnerability, it's adding on to the self-sustain of that champion. The Grievous Wounds items are supposed to stop self-sustain moves.

Now before you read on, you're probably gonna downvote this without reasoning because: "My main has a massive shield and I don't want them to be less powerful." If you read the whole thing, you'll understand what this is exactly instead of fussing.

So with that, here's my idea.

Grievous Wounds and item 3075summoner 14's Grievous Wounds are not the same. Thornmail and Ignite's Grievous Wounds will work just as they do now.

As for the other Grievous Wounds:

Grievous Wounds currently reduces all healing and regeneration received on that target by 40%.

It'll instead reduce self-healing, outgoing heals, shields and health regeneration by 50%, and rapidly decay to 15% after 1 second. Extended Grievous Wounds, like item 3123's 3 seconds of it; will have a stronger effect. But this is a curved decay, meaning it'll never be above 50% after the first second.

Here's an example: Varus Varus E's Soraka. Janna Janna will shield Soraka. If Janna shields Soraka beforehand, the shield will be in full effect. If she shield directly after the attack, it'll be reduced by 50 - 15% depending on the time between that second she shields her. If Soraka remains in the area and Janna shields her, it'll only be reduced by 15%.

Grievous Wounds will also deal 5% true damage to shields each time it's proc'd. ( Think old Irelia Rework passive, but heavily diminished. ) This effect is never strengthened no matter the item you have.

This makes DPS champions more useful in teamfights, as they can take out any shield in a maximum of 25 attacks. Meaning someone like Jinx is more effective against a item 3048 Seraph's Embrace user or a squishy with a shield than a Lux Burst Mage or Jayce High Damage champion.

Bonus Health is unaffected.

So for those earlier worrying about their Kaisa Kai'sa ultimate, unless you casted it after Katarina Katarina's Death Lotus or against a full team of ADCs. You're safe.

...except from Urgot Urgot though.

Wont that just wreck TahmKench ?

On the otherhand…

I wouldn't mind nerfing shields or adding counters to them AS LONG AS shields are reverted to where they block lifesteal / spell vamp again...(abilities like darius q will still heal darius, even if he hits a shield, just want generic lifesteal / spellvamp to be gutted when hitting shields)

Also, reducing a champions outgoing heals / shields is too strong, that's like reducing velkoz`s ap by 50% after you hit him...instead it should just reduce their receiving heals / shields.

TahmKench is almost never played as a support anymore thanks to that harsh nerf, so only gotta worry about that if they have a DPS in the teamfight. I wouldn't make shields block lifesteal since that takes away from building Grievous Wounds.

Make it reduce shield strength or duration for half of the amount it reduces healing for.

So 20%.

Yes and no, this is less about prevention and more about during. The idea of this is, if you were hit and you DIRECTLY AFTER heal or shield, it's diminished a lot. It punishes last ditch heal / shields. However, each attack which procs it will deal true damage to shields.
