There is a default meta enforced by Riot and there is a solution to it

The enforced meta is the champ select system where Riot obligates you to pick any of the 5 roles. At this moment you can only queue up for top, mid, jungle, bot and support. They should add a 6th role called ' miscellaneous' . There you can pick any off meta champ/role and it will be clear for all your teammates that you will not play the conventional way.

How would matchmaking determine what teams get a player in this "misc" role instead of one of the standard 5? Would players be able to opt out of having one of these misc roles in their game? That's the whole problem; people almost unanimously don't want the unknown factor on their team.

Good point. Only 2 roles are not mandatory. Jungle and Support. Misc would come in their place.

Interesting thought.

Indeed. And +1.

Which is why role selection was a bad idea in the first place and simply needs to be removed since it's clearly harming the health of the game and is even such a bad idea and confusing system that it's causing Riot to make decisions that actually violate their own ToS.

Which of course is exactly what we said would happen when the system first hit the patch notes in preseason 6.

Role selection should never have been implemented in the first place, it encourages players to behave in a toxic and uncommunicative fashion that is detrimental to teams and teamwork.

I agree. I played League for almost 4 years and I would get my role 95% of the time just by either pickorder, calling out, asking other players and swapping. Thanks to that system I learned to communicate and cooperate with my team. It also made me learn and main 4 roles so I could swap with other people when needed. It had a lot more flexibility because you could react to pick and bans and counterpicks while now you face some entitled player by Riot who wants to play his role no matter what because he queue' d up for it and you can't hardly blame him. Also when counterpicked or when your main champs get banned you are now screwed. Overall the old system made me a better player because it demanded better communication, cooperation and flexibility.

Exactly. It was a FAR superior system that encouraged players to work together and learn basic fundamental concepts while simultaneously offering much better flexibility.

I HATE getting first pick as mid/top now.

No one wants to trade, no one wants to help me with a ban to keep the opponent from counter picking, and every time a solo lane picks first it's basically an auto lost lane because role selection makes players less cooperative and you'll get insta countered.

I'm sorry but no, I despise the blind pick system, I'm glad draft pick is a thing.

People trade if you ask, and I and plenty of other people ban for other players when they ask.

Your personal experience does not the definition of draft pick make.

And further more, you have nothing but nostalgia telling you that draft pick is bad ONLY because it gives solid lane roles that you and other old players despise because you're used to playing whatever the crap comes to mind like you did in beta.

And FURTHER MORE...

I'm not doing a blind pick ranked, that just isn't going to happen. I disagree with your assessment that draft pick is toxic; you're just throwing blame on Riot again. Why don't you try blaming the community instead? They are the ones who don't understand what trolling is.

You're a smart guy, you shouldn't be throwing all the blame at one party. Riot messed up by upholding the ban, we get it. Now focus on next steps.

The game was better and less toxic when players just did whatever they wanted and tried to win doing it.

It was a far more enjoyable game.

That is an opinion though, not an objective fact and you are correct about that (at least the enjoyment part, toxicity has objectively increased).

I, and most players I think, would prefer flexibility and options. Doing the same thing every game gets old and stale.

The role selection system was a really terrible idea in an objective sense because it's caused issues like this and required things like autofill which cause even more issues, this really can't be debated.

As for blaming the community, well, they are the monster riot made them. That's also just kind of a fact and how things have happened.

Unfortunately what we are left with as the best option moving forward is removing all these badly designed systems and going back to the system that worked in superior fashion for years and it's not a solution ANY one will like (players who like the systems will be upset, players who don't will be upset to be moving backwards again when implementing the system was the first step backward).

Riot put us all in a bad position on this and has committed to doing so for a year and a half which is kind of sad.

Good debate points to bring up mate, there's things in here worth discussing, even if the discussions are likely to be very polarizing.

Yeah, extremely polarizing. However the best way to talk about things like this is to remember that you are arguing against an idea, not the person. Separating them like this makes it simpler to keep hard feelings from extending past the debate.

Truth, however it's impossible for me.

I've been railing against Riot and their litany of mistakes for soooooo long at this point that I can no longer separate the ideas from the company, they have merged because they screw up so often.

I'd feel differently if they listened to us players. Like a year and a half ago when thousands of us stated all the things the preseason 6 changes were going to cause issues wth and then every single thing we said would become an issue has indeed become a huge glaring problem.

There are plenty of good people working at Riot, people who work hard and do the best they can, but the company on the whole isn't worthy of respect or trust. That's about the best I can separate idea from company at this point.

There you can pick any off meta champ/role and it will be clear for all your teammates that you will not play the conventional way.

Doesn't even matter which champion you play, just play your champion and go to your lane or the jungle.

Lugg1 votes

You would have people dodge 90% of games where they saw someone in that role.

MysterQ2 votes

Their problem if they dodge and take the hit.

Aríon1 votes

I agree and disagree with this. (FML just make up your mind Arion! [slayer-jinx-wink] )

I agree with that there should not be a forced meta but I agree with it to an extent such as when only playing with a full premade team so you have full cooperation and if not full just play the general game since players hate to learn new logic while in champ select since champ select is the silence before the storm.
