Can we just have a simple champion for once?

I'd much rather have a champion like say Galio with a simple passive, a simple skillshot Q, a unique shield for his W, utility spell on his E, and an AoE taunt for his ult. Not all of these game changing, meta warping, monstrosities like the last few champions have been. I feel like ever since Riot created Bard all they've wanted to do is introduce things to completely change how the game is played and it's starting to get a little annoying.

The problem is, the champions who have simplistic kits suffer because there are very few meaningful choices to go with those simplistic kits. Galio brings practically nothing to the table besides his flash ult plays. His kit is a little TOO simple. That's not to say simplistic champions can't work, Malphite has a simplistic kit, but his ult makes it worth taking.

This. People don't realize that the lack of choices that a champion has to make does result in them being impossible to balance. There IS A REASON Garen isn't seen in pro play. Champs that have choices, outplayability, and versatility are the ones that will be picked at the highest brackets of play

I don't know if Garen is a good example because Garen's problem isn't simplicity exactly, but a lack of useful engagement tools. If Garen had a dash or other way to access the backline instead of simply popping ghost and hoping nobody stuns him, he'd probably be more useful in higher tiers.

Annie is pretty simple, but she's seen pro play as a stunbot support.

VERY rarely do we see Annie in Pro Play, especially these days. Not a lot of simple champs are used in pro play and if they are they're probably stupid overpowered.

Not really. Just because a kit is simple doesn't mean it's weak. Galio is at a 53% winrate right now. Amumu has been in the top 15 winrates for jungle since Season 3. Annie, Blitz, Brand, Jax, Karthus, Kayle, and Morg all have high winrates despite having pretty simple kits.

Galio's winrate has to be taken with the grain of salt that is his play rate. Those are dedicated Galio mains doing their thing. They're making the best out of that kit. As for Annie, Blitz, etc., their kits aren't balanced around being shitty for the sake of one game changing ability (Galio's ult). Their kits are well rounded and multifaceted. Not to mention each of them has a decent skill cap, whereas Galio's skill cap is reached as soon as you master Flash ulting

no cuz then your gonna get people crying about champs like Sona are broken and to hard to play against

Galio is getting a rework because his kit is mind-numbingly boring to play with or against.

If you want slow-paced click2win, go play dota2. Really.

I dont know about you, but Ivern looks very simple to me. Sure, he has quite a bit going on under the hood, but in terms of mechanical intensity, I'd say hes on the same level as Rek'Sai.

Are we talking mechanically simple or strategically simple? There's a clear difference between both.

taliyah isn't out of this world, nor is the yorick rework, people were left upset as to how basic sol was

The Deckowner1 votes

Taliyah and Sol were OPAF at release, they basically brought back the global roaming meta that TF once excels at, but they do it even better than TF because how well they could shove waves.

Jeddy0171 votes

What are you talking about? We're talking about the simplicity of champion kits here, not their impact on the game.

The Deckowner1 votes

mechanical simplicity and strategic complexity do not contradict.

they said they will release a cpl simple champs next year

I don't mind simple kits. What I don't like are targeted stuns with burst and %damage reduction shields that scale with damage (and also do damage for some reason).
