Why does nobody want to play AP champs?

I'd estimate that more than 50% of the games I play don't have any AP carry on one of the teams. Is it just because nobody wants to manage the mana that AP champs (generally) use more of than AD? And the easier farming of course.

Tank meta, maybe? AD generally deals better sustained damage, so that might be a reason. Although, there are champions like Azir or Katarina (only if passive procs) though.

Well, ADC is self explanatory supports are risky to play squishy AP champs because of the hard engage tanks that can assblast you Leona Nautilus Blitzcrank Thresh AP junglers are kinda in a bad spot because the Magus enchant isn't that great, compared to cinderhulk and warrior. tanks are back in the top lane, so the AP pokers that were there for a long time aren't as effective. Midlane I dunno about, because I don't play it often, but it's probably a mix of mana regen being shit now, alternate resource mids not actually paying anything for being essentially resource-less next to mana champs early game, and junglers usually not wanting to give 2nd blue (at least on my level) because the jungle is still kicking their ass on second spawn. Katarina is AP and still sees lots of play because she gets to ignore all the problems of the mana champs.

Tank meta

And the reason why Void Staff comes late into most mage builds because you need other stats (cdr, mana and item passives) Unlike what AD champions can do and just buy a Last Whisper 2nd and see a massive damage spike on tanks and non tanks, you can't buy a Void and see the same results unless everyone on the enemy team has over 100MR I could be wrong, but that's what I think

Snowball potential early? Easy farming? Fast tower pushing?

I don't know, I see AP champs all the time...

The reason is because a lot of people don't know how to play with Control Mages and AP Tanks in mid lane. There's actually quite a lot that are good, and my favorites are Lux Diana and Chogath. They have very good fight initiation, decent sustain and burst damage, and provide alot for their team, and can 1v1 very good, and roam lovely. That's what you need out of a champion in this meta. However there is the theory that AD focused champs (Carrys and Tanks alike) sustain their dps and health in fights better. That's the only reason I can think of.

I think its because riot has repeatedly released high-mobility champions (People who dash or jump a lot). And because of this, a lot of mages have a hard time keeping up, its also the reason why a lot of adcs like kogmaw and ashe are not picked often, because you cannot kite all of these high mobility champs. People like zed and yasuo have the ability to carry, and move around extremely well, unlike most of the AP mages. That, along with the fact that cinderhulk has VERY STRONGLY brought back the tank meta, and AP champions have a much harder time blowing up people now. I would have to say Yasuo is probably the number one reason, he scales harder than any other champion in the game right now and he scales very quickly.

Because assassin Jarvan can 100-0 people before they hit the ground.

People stopped playing AP Champions for one reason and one reason alone: Assassins. Ignore what you are hearing about the tank meta, AP champions such as Morgana and Malzahar were very popular in the past, are strong currently and do % health damage that can melt tanks.

The issue with AP mids is the assassin meta. They are countered by the popular champions such as Zed, Leblanc, Talon, etc... With rise in popularity of assassins/high mobility champions such as Yasuo going mid these days, if you play a classic AP mid you will get counter-picked and have a rough time.

Note that the few AP champions, such as Ahri, that are popular are capable of huge bursts themselves. Ahri is also very mobile.

People are scurd of the tank meta, so they all wanna be the tank shredders that are adcs, or be a tank themselves. People should be taking this meta as a chance to play some of the riskier mages, as they have sufficient peel finally.
