Lux Buff Targeting the Wrong Thing

Meep Man··26 votes·1,000 views

I don't usually complain about stuff, but I want to make an exception here. The current Lux buff on the PBE is the wrong buff. It promotes a really snowbally play style where she kills, you respawn, and then she can do it again right when you get back. It might not make her OP, but it's going to make her more feast or famine, which isn't good.

What should be looked at is her shield, specifically:

  1. How little it gets per level/rank
  2. The annoying cast time on it makes it feel not so smooth to use
  3. How long the cool down is at early levels Her shield is what should be looked at, not her ultimate. Currently, it's a one point wonder spell that feels like a filler spell, like Cho'Gath E or Jayce's Melee W. It has very little AP scaling and very little rank scaling outside of cool down reduction, which is usually not noticed as much since, once you start leveling W, you usually have 40% CDR (45% for some).

The fact that even support Lux maxes shield last is pretty telling that it's garbage.

It shields for 100 at Level 1, but then only gains 30 per level... and has a 40% AP ratio... if you hit BOTH parts.

As someone who loves playing Lux, if there is a need of any buff, I'd love to see an increased AP ratio on returning shield. I absolutely enjoy landing max range shields on allies, this is something I consider to be a relatively skillful part of her kit. Buffing the first part of her shield is a brainless buff and would feel unfair imo.

Maybe something like:

Lux fires out a projectile that shields herself and allies it touches by 40/55/70/85/100 (+15% AP). Upon reaching maximum range, the projectile will return, shielding Lux and all allies it touches by 60/90/120/150/180 (+25% AP). Other allied champions hit by both parts of this ability gain an additional 10/20/30/40/50 (+10% AP) shielding from the second shield. Maximum Shielding For Lux: 100/145/190/235/280 (+40% AP) Maximum Shielding For Allies: 110/165/220/275/330 (+50% AP) Mana Cost: 60 Mana Cool Down: 12/11.5/11/10.5/10 seconds

I don't MAIN Lux, so I don't know exactly how this would impact her, but I think I can agree that maximizing the effectiveness of her shield by hitting it at the tip would be a cool buff.

The numbers might be too high (it's an AoE shield, so that's probably why it's kept so low; kinda like Taric heal), but I like the concept.

Taric's heal is low because it's the main refresher spell for his passive, it's basically off cooldown if you use both passive autos.

i dont max it last.... i max Q last

the shield increase numbers may seems small but its actaully double that thats the shield for each direction. but more importantly with item 3504 and with 45% cdr

you can keep the attack speed/llife steal buff on an ally (or your whole team up your grouped) up PERMANENTLY as long as mana permits.

idk how many games we have won solely because of this... and this was LONG before item 3504 got buffed.

but on topic... i agree its her shield that needs a buff.. not her ulti but the thing i would change about her shield is allow u to control the distance it goes out.. that is the proper way to buff her

Sure, but any champ that takes Windspeakers and Ardent Censer will have effective shields. Sometimes I take Windspeakers, Ardent, and Athene's and my shields are awesome. But pretty much any other support in the game has a better shield. Being a skillshot that changes speed as it flies makes landing teamwide shields both ways is almost all luck based.

Personally I would love for Lux to be made more supportive and less linear, but that's just me. I think if Riot wants to buff her, they should either up the scaling on the shield by like 15%, make it shield more on the way out than in so it's more reliable and consistant, make her able to move while casting it, or being able to control how far she throws it. I think she needs at least 2 of those, but hell, I'd love to have all 4, then nerf her damage to compensate.

Lux is by far my favorite champ, and I have just as much fun making clutch saves with snare/shield as I do obliterating carries, so it really sucks that she leans so heavily towards burst rather than support. Hell, I could right an essay on exactly how I would prefer to have Lux exactly, but that's just me.

TL;DR: Shield isn't as good as basically anyone else, and I wish Lux was more supportive/less burst only

This logic about lux killing and coming back to lane with ult is common these past few days but faulty. Lux ult is not an annie or syndra or viktor ulr. She's not going to square up with the enemy mid laner and have both champions drop spell rotations and come out on top because she has her ult up again but you don't. She can't just hit you with it at will even if shes got 50 kills over you, you can just walk out and not get hit. She has to snare you first unless your positioning is garbage or you are half asleep and don't bother to walk out of the red warning laser.

In which case you fucked up by eating her minion blockable skillshot cc on a long cooldown and deserve to get chunked or die. I could understand peoples logic if annie got a cooldown refund on ult kill because she could walk to lane to just press R on you, but lux needs setup that you can easily avoid.

I mean, so does Darius, but he also was nerfed due to this issue.

The Sword Saint1 votes

No, that's not the same thing at all. Darius is a melee top laner vs generally other melee top laners. it's not like mid lane where you have safe ranged waveclear, a short lane, and are positioned so that your jungler has half the max distance they could be away from you at any given time to come and back you up. Top lane is an island where coming back to lane with your ult back up immediately after a fight means the other player loses lane by default in most cases just because of the nature of the lane.

A lane freeze in mid is broken by walking up and spending some mana to waveclear and then walk back to turret, resetting the minion position. A lane freeze top is broken only by risking death due to the length of the lane, how easy it is to get ganked when moving up that far to the enemy turret, and the fact that in the situation where someone who just killed you is now freezing means they will be ahead in xp and items and probably all in you if you come close enough to try and break the freeze.

Plus, darius's setup is 'get in melee range' followed by him comboing you to 3 bleed stacks while you are cc'd, then you have the option if trying to fight back when he's 2 autos from dunking you or running away and losing lane harder because you have to recall now.

Meep Man1 votes

Not every middle laner has the ability to just spend some mana and wave clear. Some require a full rotation or more to do so, and some would be expending almost all of their mana to do so, which hurts them far more than someone in Top Lane. OR they have to get pretty darn close to do so and are Melee. A few examples of this: Akali Kassadin AurelionSol Chogath TwistedFate Fizz Gragas All these guys and some upon being killed by Lux are just going to have to try and hold up after they get killed because they have no chance to try and kill Lux while her ultimate is down.

None of those champions have any problem laning against lux wtf are you smoking.

Have to say, I really agree with the OP here.

I agree, main Lux, and her shield is a bit frustrating since it doesn't seem to be able to withstand that much, it's just a little mediocre. They should've looked at that rather than her Ult... It's already on a short cooldown so I don't see the ult buff being necessary but it's nice.
