This sums up Riots Policy of Flaming / Punishment system rather well

Somebody made a post on this, and I thought back to this. You know shit is bad when you can't say Fuck on Riot Koreas servers, and you can't make adult jokes on NA servers; while you can't make political jokes in EUW servers.

Hi there. I wanted to fill you in that when you do get a bit older and get a job, people will not tolerate you telling them to "suck your cock". You see, there is a difference between getting offended easily and not wanting to deal with the xXedgel0rdXx teenager (you) who thinks its cool to just blurt out curse words and obscene remarks. You may find that people may not get offended, but rather think you're just a massive douche that nobody wants to babysit.

Good luck when you turn 18 in 6 years. You'll need it.

I'm 38. I'd guess you around mid 20's. Old enough to think you are mature, but not experienced enough to realize you don't know shit. I'm sure at your job of flipping burgers you are indeed scared shitless to say anything to anyone. Me I do contract work. Reno/landscaping/roofing/ect. I can damn well say whatever I want because I'm my own boss.

I thought you said you wanted witty comebacks? Why is yours so generic and trash then? Flipping burgers? Really? Steal that one from your great grandfather?

You do not seem to grasp how the actual world works. Let me give you a glimpse of what the world is like for when you crawl out of your mother's basement. You see, your job as a subcontractor puts you in the category of "zero skill moronic laborer". Your job is exactly what all the fuck ups in high school end up doing because they are stupid and incapable of learning any type of actual skill. So they end up like you, doing zero skill brainless labor that an ape could actually be trained to do. This is why you probably get upset at 'dem immegrent r takin our jerbs!' The reason this is is because your job can be picked and performed by pretty much anyone in minimal time because it is mindless grunt work for idiots. I'm sure in your simple brain cutting grass, mulching, moving rocks, hanging shingles, or digging a hole is quite difficult, but I assure you its not.

I know this may be a bit difficult to hear (and probably a bit difficult to understand for you)

Hmm your reading skills seem to be lacking. I'm not a subcontractor bub.

So, there's a very important concept which divides E-sports from "real" sports, and one which must be overcome before E-sports will get far.

Sportsmanship.

Sportsmanship is extraordinarily important in the professional (and, honestly, amateur) sports arena. It's important because you don't have to like your opposition, you don't have to let them win, and you don't have to respect them.. But you sure as shit better respect the game you're playing.

Defamation, shit talking, obscene gestures, drag down the sport itself when its players perform them. Such behavior shows a lack of respect for the game itself, and is pretty darn intolerable.

I absolutely think that Riot's policy is too heavy handed (telling someone to improve / not make the same mistake over and over - WITHOUT CURSING THEM OUT - is not toxic or unsportsmanlike), but it's absolutely better than nothing.

The mute button.

The mute button is not a valid counter argument. This is a team game and you're supposed to be able to play with your teammates, cutting the lines of communication is supposed to be the last-resort for players who are beyond being tolerated, the ones who shouldn't be present.

Again, sportsmanship is an important concept in any sport; in any game which is played with others, really. It's why most competitive games open with "gl hf" and end with "gg". It's why players in any 'real life' sport all walk past eachother, high five, and say "good game" at the end. It's the glue which keeps the game respectable and honorable.

There is an argument to be made for the "that's toxic!" mentality to have been pushed too far; legitimate and non-insulting criticism / advice is often shot down under such a guise, even when it's legitimate. This is what would fall under the guise of the video you've provided: Telling someone they need to work on X, and doing Y is costing you the game (without insulting, cursing, degrading them, ect ect) is not a problem and should not be punished.

However that does not excuse being an asshole or a dick. Regardless of where you stand on PC culture, there's a reason that getting in someone's face and screaming obscenities at them and / or threatening their life, is a legally punishable crime in the real world.

I disagree with you.

If you choose to listen to somebody and fully opt into being offended, that's called being dumb and controlling. I value freedom of speech over the securities of the weak, and I'm not just saying that to rhyme either. There is a difference between real life and video games, and if you're mentally unstable because of something somebody texted in a video game . . . there isn't much to say other than "Wowie Gee, that guy sure needs sum help."

  1. Just because you can cover your ears and run away to cope with this guy shutting insults and whatever at you, it still doesn't change the fact the guy is in the wrong for berating and shouting insults in the first place.
  2. Freedom of speech is generally a specific term used in the context of GOVERNMENT censorship. What you're looking for is probably a broader term of freedom of expression.
  3. The essence to freedom of expression is that others have just as much right as you to voice the opinion and to accept or reject each other's ideals. So having others disagreeing with you is FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IN EXERCISE. The fact you're using the "I value freedom of speech over the securities of the weak..." only shows 2 things. 1) It's basically a some kinda self-assuming moralist strawman. 2) It is the exact antithesis of freedom of expression, because you believe you're right and everybody is wrong without any discourse by assuming a self-proclaimed high ground (which in this case, you have assumed both a moral and healthiness superiority entirely out of the blue).

  1. Running away is an ego problem. If the person has a gun, you should run. But guess what, they don't have guns. If you don't like what somebody has to say you can mute them, which you can't normally do in real life. You don't need to walk over to somebody's lunch table and be all like: "If you don't stop talking about X topic, which by the way upset me, I'm telling the police on you." The police would literally chuckle at you, by the way.

  2. Sounds like personal venting.

  3. This is true, however, one side is enforcing the law on the other, while the side that is trying to enjoy freedom of speech is being discouraged from communication. Though no, saying that I disagree: that is called the mature way of saying that you do not agree with what somebody is saying, and so you are showing a decline in what they've said in gesture of what you believe. That is how communication and the English language works. You can believe what you want, and you can express what you want, just know that the only side enforcing rules are the SJW's. This is similar to a bratty 9 year old trying to get little timmy a spanking because he said a bad word that his parents disapproved of, meanwhile little timmy's parents have different values and don't believe his words hold the same weight as others believe them to be. Therefore, normally, you would have social consequences, but not lawful consequences.

That is the difference, social consequences usually enforced by SJW culture and lawful consequences that are enforced on everybody.

Muting only makes you unable to hear what they're saying, which is exactly the same as covering your ears.

If someone shouts an insult at you, they are obviously in the wrong. And the fact you believe the victim to verbal abuse should only react by either taking the beating or covering their ears and run away, shows exactly how much you believe the power should be handed to perpetrators and not the subject/victim of any malicious interaction.

This also doesn't just have to do with insults, if someone says something you don't agree with, you SHOULD have more power in responding to it than either just sitting there to take it all or you have to cover your ears. If freedom of expression is truly a thing, then I should have the ability to tell someone to fuck off just like how they have the right to say something.

Which this begs the question on your claimed value in freedom of expression which is about MUTUAL rights in their voices, because you somehow believe a deliverer should hold all the cards while it's only rightfully so that the receivor's only card is to just either take it or run away. I mean, what?

  1. Sounds like personal venting.

It's called clarification.

You are the one enforcing the law on the other people, enforcing YOUR self-centered rule on the other people, as you so generously forfeiting other people's rights to be free from random abuses and possessing the ability to disagree and tell another person they don't like to fuck off, in a completely 1-sided notion of communication of your design where only you say and others can only listen and take your shit, whilst as you continue to delude yourself into believing that you're the egalitarian saint in the room.

A comical display of a lack of self awareness, to say the least, if not outright disgusting.

Only your opinion/ideal matters, is moral, and is sane, by your standards, and that's the only standard that is right and should exist - you say. Except that is not freedom of expression, neither is it mature, nor is it communication at all. It's pure and unadulterated tyranny, by a tyrant who lives in their little world believing that they're the most correct without discourse, and that their iron-fisted and utterly biased nonsense is the most equal to everybody as you utterly fail you realise the fatal contradiction between the ideal you think you are subscribing to and the actual ideal you're employing.

........

Let us all be perfectly real. What you're subscribing to, is NOT freedom of expression, because your belief is the exact opposite of it. A world of your design where self-righteous assholes are given all the power and right over and at the complete expense of others and their rights to respond and refute, is a world where freedom of expression does not exist; just because you claim to be its patron does not make you so.

  1. Muting one person does not = instant deafness. It means they can't harass you anymore. If somebody is harassing you, they won't be any good anytime soon anyways. This is called common sense.

  2. I'm not punishing anybody, I'm not banning anybody nor am I chat restricting. You seem to think that I somehow maintain some kind of power when I've specified the difference in social and actual power.

  3. https://puu.sh/AeY5b/09b97a3083.png <---------- This demonstrates your behavior so far very well. Actually, I won't bother socializing with you. Do you know why? Because I'm choosing not to speak with you. It isn't because you're superior or that I have an ego to defend but because you seem to be a very unpleasant person. I'm choosing my right to mute you. I'm not participating with you. You have the right to tell your friends that you're superior. You have the right to show to the public of 'boards' that you're in the right. People who like you, will be with you, and people who don't like you, won't hang around for long.

The thing is though . . . I'd much prefer all forms of socialization, the negative, the positive and the neutral. But I don't punish people. I don't beg for punishment. Do I feel wronged sometimes? Yeah. Do I feel offended sometimes? . . . No it's a video game. More so I just feel attacked by people that feel there is a right and wrong. If a person states they believe in something, it doesn't make it concrete as you've "called me out on;" but you don't seem to get your own words as they spill out of your mouth.

  • You completely failed to understand that freedom of expression isn't limited to being stuck taking and running away from your shit. It also means I can also tell you to eat shit for the crap you spew out.
  • I only used "self righteousness" in the context that your actual belief contradicts everything you claim to believe in, and that you had the nerve to both assume a moral and healthiness high ground as well as running wild with your strawman at the same time. But oh boy, now you're gonna flip MY table on me and play the self appointed good guy act again; urgh.
  • Freedom of expression means all opinions are equal and therefore you shouldn't expect others to host your words. Freedom of expression also does not shield you from accountability, responsibility, or any other social or legal consequences. Freedom of expression is also not violated when you're disagreed, punished, boycotted, yelled at, etc, for the words you said; it just means people disagree with you, and your opinion may or may not be in the minority.
  • Also, can you stop using emotional-strawman arguments and other underhanded playing? Nobody gives a shit if someone is offended, that's never the center of the debate; YOU are the one who even brought it in here. It's about a simple notion that just as you can say something, I have the equal amount of right to tell you to fuck off. It's as simple and straightforward as that; and that's also what it means to have freedom of expression.

Simply put I find Riots love of anti free speech offense. Ban your damn self for being offense.

If I was some short haired woman with hairy pits walking topless down some sidewalk in NYC you'd support me 100%.

I ain't though. The truth is "offended" is just something people cry these days when they disagree with someone and are afraid to discuss it.
