Looking At Potential Champions For the Next "Big Middle Lane Champions"

MIDDLE LANE Back when Kassadin lost his silence, who came into the meta for Assassins? LeBlanc because she had a silence and better burst damage. Then her silence was removed and who came in to replace her? Talon, because he was the only remaining "true assassin" with a silence. Now he has had his removed so who will be next in the Middle Lane Silence montage. My thoughts tell me a couple things...

  1. Ahri Ahri will be rising up to be a top pick again due to her 2 second hard crowd control with enhanced damage.
  2. Malzahar Malzahar MAY rise due to his extremely long silence and early dueling potential. He also goes really well against popular picks such as Yasuo, Ahri, and Zed since all he has to do is click one button to stop their combo. He can also bypass Yasuo's Wind Wall with all of his spells.
  3. Veigar Maybe? Possibly? Will His 2.5 second stun, burst playstyle get noticed? Probably not, but he has a chance.
  4. Vladimir Who doesn't like infinite sustain and one button press to end or prevent a wombo combo from Zed and other Middle Lane Assassins? He also gets free tankiness with damage and an amazing team fight ultimate, making him a really good potential pick for those with fast reflexes and good "shot calling".

I'm not just posting these for you guys to consider, I am also posting these so any Rioters potentially reading might want to keep an eye on when Syndra Syndra is inevitably toned down a bit along with some others.

If Jayce mid becomes a thing, then based on a ranked game I spectated recently Annie may become more common mid again since she wrecked him in that game until his jungle started camping her (and then she would still almost blow him up). If Annie mid becomes a thing, Morgana will likely return mid because she is a strong pick against Annie.

With the exception of Ahri (and only on her ult) I doubt these will be popular picks mostly for their lack of mobility. Veigar takes ages to become relevant and is kind of ignorable before DFG. Malzahar becomes vulnerable when he ults and though he has great teamfight utility he has even less than the super immobile Veigar (stun)/Vladimir (pool) to get out if he get's caught. Vlad's infinite sustain kit is potentially extremely strong, but if one doesnt know how to properly exploit it and stay at a distance (Vlad's range is even shorter than Ryze, the posterboy for short-range mages) you just feed with your early-game squishiness. The lack of cc also hurts and your teamfight-supreme ult barely compensates.

They're all strong picks for sure, but it takes time. And for a champion to become popular people don't generally like to spend huge amounts of time to get good when they can just get good in a shorter time with easier mechanics.

  1. Ahri is already trending back down in favor of Zed and Katarina.
  2. Malzahar is a soloQ bully, but his weird kit holds him back.
  3. Veigar, we don't talk about Veigar. Event Horizon will not escape a rework intact.
  4. Vlad is a classic top laner. He doesn't want to roam, he wants to farm and then show up to teamfights with items.

The answer you are looking for is most likely Katarina. Jayce Riven JarvanIV are also contenders for both mid and top lane.
