Morellonomicon should get the Zhonya's Ring treatment.

For those of you that weren't around: item 3157 and item 3089 used to be a single item back in the day before in the form of Zhonya's Ring before it was split in two. The reasoning was that the item was so inherently versatile (As both the "ultimate offense" and "ultimate defense") that it was mandatory on every AP carry. I think Morellonomicon should be split in two, but for a different reason. The item is intended to be a "bread and butter" mana item for mana using mages comparable to Zeal items for ADCs or Brutalizer items for Assassins back in the day. The problem with this is that its passive (reducing healing below 35% health) has three problems:

  • To function as a "bread and butter" mage item it has to be good even when its passive isn't useful (no significant healers on the enemy team)
  • Since it has to function as such, the passive has to be balanced around the fact that it is extremely common (this is why it only activates below 35%)
  • Unlike Lord Dominik's Regards, there is no component that allows you to utilize the grievous wounds until the item is fully built

One Idea would be to bring back a modified version of Rite of Ruin to replace Morellonomicon's current niche, and change Morellonomicon to not build out of Lost Chapter, but instead a new component that also grants AP + GW. Since it no longer grants mana or Lost Chapter's old passive, the grievous wounds passive can get some buffs, too.

The grievous wounds component should be developed into an item suited for ap assassins since it's more appropriate for assassins to be attempting to kill an adc while delivering some temporary healing reduction to help them out with that kill rather than for someone like xerath who can consistently apply it to multiple opponents throughout a fight.

Still wish healing tanks were more tuned around not having grievous wounds making them obsolete or unkillable. I only see this as being achievable by removing grievous wounds altogether or by rebalancing items which can deliver grievous wounds to only have the healing reduction effect available during an active. I would prefer trying the latter before resorting to the former.

Assassins usually take ignite anyway. IMO in an ideal world GW would be a tank/support stat. Most carries can burst through healing, but lifesteal often renders a support or pure tank's damage output completely worthless because they are just doing far less damage than the target is healing.

But since it has to be a carry stat, I think it should be something you have make tradeoffs to get.

I believe Riot tried to do that with Soraka at first, with the whole ignite only works on self heals. Then Soraka became overbearing so they removed it and ... gave up?

Honestly they could have pushed further and played with the values for a sweet spot.

That's what they needed to do and they had time to try out these big changes during preseason but what did we get instead? plants.

Its strange how the GW option for AD is pretty niche, while it is almost guaranteed that a mage will build Morellos.

I think part of it is the opportunity cost. Especially when dealing with tanks, cause it puts you in a position where you need to chose between GW or the Giant slayer passive in the end game. And EC doesn't build into any other item.

That in mind Morellos isn't necessarily the Answer to the sustain tank, due to it's "Below 35% HP requirement" For a fed tank, knocking them down to 35% HP from full can be a pretty difficult task for a Burst mage or Assassin. And by that time, they would already be in retreat. And that can make it difficult to ignore building EC into mortal Reminder. Yet people hesitate to build it as it means denying or delaying their core items.

Better plan: Remove grievous wounds from the game and then balance heals accordingly.

Then give Ignite Grounded for its duration instead.

The jungle meta will become smite ignite. Ganks would be free kills if there was a summoner spell that grants instant targeted grounding.

Combine Cleanse and Barrier into a single spell?

Not quite. I have seen people taking summoner 3 which is a lesser version of grounded (at least for jungle). And it stll gte outweigh by defensive or mobility spells. summoner 6 summoner 4 and is only taken if you have no other form of CC.

Exhaust doesn't block dash/flash. You'd be removing the ability of a laner to flash out of gank if you had a targeted ground. It's only a step above having a targeted hard CC on a summoner spell.

You either flash the moment you see the jungle coming or you just don't flash at all. The amount of times you wait for them to blow their summoner spell is usually quite low. So like I said summoner 3 is a lesser version of a ground ability.

It is annoying to have your heals cut as a heal-reliant champ like Swain or Vladimir, but preventing clutch heals is a core part of what Ignite is.

Isn't that basically how it was before the stupid MYMU?

Morello gives cdr dmg and shitty mana regen, athene gives cdr mr and tons of mana regen.

now morello gives cdr dmg and tons of mana, while athene is shit.

TotalJerk2 votes

Athene's became a support item, and a pretty strong one that is just held back by its redundancy because there are way too many goddamn items nowadays that are good for healers/shielders.

The Deckowner1 votes

the problem with athene is that it requires the support to build damage items for it to be effective, while other healing items scales off the healing and not the damage dealt.

The Grievous Wounds passive would probably fit on Liandry's Torment pretty well.
