Now that Ryze is rocking a 37.84% winrate...

It's about time Riot addresses him, again.

I'm tired of seeing a new Ryze every season because Riot has no idea what they are doing with the champion. It's about time to throw in the towel and realize that a 'machine gun' mage that scales off mana and AP into the late game isn't going to work. It's clear you guys don't know what you are doing so just perform the Galio special and turn him into a new 'mage that scales into late game' kind of champion.

Riot: We need to make Ryze stronger in soloq and weaker in competitive. Also Riot: Reworks Ryze to give him an ult that requires team coordination Please just Kog'maw Ryze and revert him back. Yes I know Bjergsen made like 1 cool use of his ultimate to both pressure inhib turret and baron at the same time but 99% of league is played in soloq and Ryze isn't fun like he was. He also sucks.

Riot's been using the same rework list every preseason for a few years now:

  • Rework Ryze
  • Rework Jungle

Ryze... what champion is that? XDD

Mannny1 votes

Oh he's the man from the blue man group

Handy Sandy 1 votes

They just need to change his ult and his W that's basically it..Riot why must you make this so complicated!?

Mannny1 votes

They've tried nerfing him and when they do he just becomes too weak.

Winrates don't mean anything, plus we are sick of Ryze getting constant reworks.

I would agree, but this has always been the argument on the boards:

"So x Champ has a 5x% winrate and 2x% playrate. When can we start talking about this?"

Requiemsfire1 votes

Because a 38% winrate on champion with an approx 1% playrate is perfectly balanced and definitely not under powered according to the boards.

So Reryze 7.2.3

His win rate is still healthy around 50% if you base it on the player base that are very experienced with Ryze. The win rate of people that don't know how to properly play the champion definitely went down because he is no longer freelo, yet those people keep spamming him utilizing the same techniques because they aren't actually good at the game or at ryze, they just spammed something that was broken until they were at a skill level way above their ability and now they continue to spam him hoping he will continue to carry them even higher.

Mannny1 votes

The same can't be said about other harder mechanically demanding champions like Riven who has a 50.23% winrate. Ryze isn't even that hard, mains will always have above average winrates because they are mains of the champion.

Thrëat1 votes

I dunno about Riven being mechanically demanding. She is one of the champions that I tell my friends to use when they are struggling to get into Gold because she is pretty easy to pick up once you have the rythm down. It isn't that ryze is hard, he is rather easy.

The problem with his win rate is that a lot of people that were not very good with him spammed him because even while being pretty shit with him they were able to win more often than not. Now that he is no longer over powered those people are losing their games because they never had the actual skill to back up their performance. Once the people that were only playing ryze to abuse him stop playing him the win rate will start to balance out.

It is like if they buffed yasuo to make it so that he no longer needed a knock up to utilize his ultimate. A bunch of people would be spamming yasuo in order to get that freelo. They would all get a tier higher than they were able to get without spamming something that is obviously broken. Then if they reverted the change all of those 'yasuo mains' wouldn't be able to do jack shit in the games they were now playing in since they didn't actually deserve the tier higher rank. You would see yasuo's win rate dive down to 20%-40% easily, even though he wasn't being nerfed, just reverted. Does that mean Yasuo is weak right now because if he was buffed and then 'nerfed'? No, it simply means people saw something was broke, spammed it, climbed, it got fixed, but those people keep on spamming it hoping for the same results.

Just to comment if anyone sees this later raze still has a terrible win rate this theory is wrong

Correlation does not equal causation. Right now most of Ryze's hardest counters are all very popular picks. The champs that he use to counter hard are now rarely ever played. This also brings down win rates. They will never balance the game so every champion has a 50% win rate against every other champion. When flavor of the month changes win rates will fluctuate based on who is strong against who. When champions get buffed, nerfed, or reworked the win rates will also fluctuate a lot depending on how many people are spamming the champ and if the champ was over buffed or over nerfed.

He was good against these meta picks before the nerfs now he just cant compete with anyone. and sure u can say "correlation does not equal causation" but that really doesnt prove your point you have to give me an example that isnt counters im pretty sure most picks countered by the current meta have at the lowest a 46% win rate.

He does fine against these champs he just sucks.

Dawg what exactly is the problem with ryze? Besides past precedent what makes you think that a machine gun mage that scales off of mana and ap wont work? I'm genuinely curious because i really dont see much ryze anymore whereas a few months ago i did.

Mannny1 votes

Well the issue with Ryze is that he is either really strong or really weak because most AP items scale with mana as well. This creates issues because if a change to Ryze hits him hard enough all his scaling will be ruined and he will be trash but if he something like, lets say, a reworked buff item 3165 then all of a sudden he becomes a monster.

SnakDatSmilesBak1 votes

Yeah. I don't see much ryze but imo the issue is while ahead he's oppressive af and while behind he's basically useless. And i see your point about his scaling sources being ultra volatile. Do you think he just needs some numbers adjustment or does he need more?

Personally i think the wiser thing to do would be to sleep on him for a while and see how he's doing and what needs to be changed. He's been changed a lot and I think riot should chill out with him for a while and let people figure out his place in the meta and the most effective way to use him before making any changes. Simple numbers changes would be fine though.

Mannny1 votes

They have tried to lower his numbers on numerous occasions over multiple Ryze reworks and they usually end up in him being really bad, like the most recent Ryze nerf resulting in his current state. In my honest opinion he needs to be reworked into a different version of Ryze because their attempts at trying to keep the general idea of Ryze over the years has never been successful.

SnakDatSmilesBak1 votes

You've got a good point about why they should dump his idea altogether and start from scratch. That's a lot of work tho and in the meantime there's other more pressing reworks to consider. Ryze has basically been the poster boy for LOL for a long time, however, and there's definitely merit in trying to preserve his identity. If riot can figure out a way to balance him and preserve his identity I can see it being a much shorter and preferable process as compared to starting from scratch like you suggest.

Rito be like: "Ryze has skillshots which are skill indexed and offer counterplay to their opponents." .... .... "By the way, he has a long range point click snare. Again."

CrazyRiceFarmer1 votes

It's very easy. Revert the cooldown nerf to his e and hes viable for solo q again. If u wanna nerf him more for competetive lower the 2 second snare to 1.25. Ryze was so fun. But with the nerf to e cd he feels just fucking awful. The nerf to his e q dmg was ok the nerf to w snare was ok too but nerf to e was too much.
