Nami is better than Sona in nearly every way...

This is coming from a D2 support main who has hundreds of games with Sona and Nami .

I've come to the conclusion after a long time of careful consideration that there is just no reason to pick Nami over Sona , except for pre-lvl 30, new players who need an easier champion to play.

Like Sona , Nami offers her team speed boosts, a heal, poke, AOE cc, slows, and dmg buffs. However, she doesn't have Sona 's glaring weaknesses. Nami doesn't rely on a high-CD ultimate for hard cc. She is not as mana hungry (poke/heal is in one spell, which costs less than Sona 's heal early game). She has hard cc before lvl 6. She doesn't have slow AF base MS. While she can build AP and feel useful doing so, she doesn't feel obligated to. A Nami could have ZERO AP and still be useful to her team while a Sona with zero AP might as well AFK.

Literally the only thing Sona offers is slightly stronger poke.

I'm not arguing Nami needs nerfs, God please no, but Riot you need to take a look at Sona .

Sorry, but that isn't true at all. Sona's ult is way better than Nami's. Sona's poke and heal early is also better.

The two of them are VERY similar in power levels.

Sona's heal early is NOT better than Nami's. It costs more and heals less.

Sona's ult is arguably better than Nami's. However, Nami has a 1.5 second AOE stun on a basic ability. Her hard CC on her ult is merely extra, whereas for Sona it's everything.

Edit your post up there, if I'm reading correctly, you said theres no reason to pick Nami over Sona , according to your opinion it needs to be the other way around. Unless I'm going crazy, that's how I read it.

Sugar Momma1 votes

I gave two exceptions; for new players and I did say Sona has stronger poke. I don't think it alone justifies picking her over Nami bc Nami has decent poke as well and can heal as well with it (much more mana efficient).

Flyer Beast1 votes

But 80% of your post said "Nami is better than sona in almost every way" and then you just stated the opposite

Lugg1 votes

Sona's heal doesn't heal less early since you can also get the shield off of it.

Nami's stun is indeed great, IF you manage to land it.

sonas heal has a shield and scales off % of missing HP. it IS better than namis heal early levels for targets with low HP.

It's usually not better early because most sona's won't level w past one until level 10. Even if you did, it's only better if you get maximum usage of the shield and are both at 20% ish damage. So practically, nami's is harder to use, but usually much more rewarding. Nami's is better for general use, but sona's is much better for clutch healing.

Okay on a unbiased assessment

Sona curns out more damage, at the expense of being squishier, slower, having less cc, less utility and worse mana problems if she wants to use any other ability in lane but Q

it's somewhat unfair, yes, but what can you do other then take that damage and make it work

Looking at this, you might have a point here.

sona is meant to be easy and naimi takes more skill than her with the cast time on bubble and the travel time on tidal wave. sona is just an easier supp with more burst at the expense of some utility when compared to naimi

I find this "harder champs should be more powerful" logic that many people seem to use extremely flawed.

If a champ is harder to use but just outright better it doesn't make the champ "hard" (see what I mean?), it only makes them strong. Balance is a measure of effectiveness and power, and when a champ has more than everyone else, they're overpowered. Execution difficulties have almost no parts in it.

**EDIT: **Hard champs should remain you know, actually hard. If they are rewarded more than they are not harder to use, and it only just makes them more powerful as a whole, which is not good.

Y I TRY1 votes

i never said naimi was hard just takes more skill. they both have their advantages and disadvantages. naimi is stronger in certain situations vs a sona in the same situation and vice versa

RedCyclone1 votes

That is no real reason why a champion should be in a sorry state

OP you jest, Sona has better boobs. And is better waifu material.

Sona does tend to offer more lane presence than Nami, Also the 20% damage reduction is pretty nice when used properly.

Actually though, if they do buff Sona, having ranks in her ultimate increase the effects of power chord would be a good place to start, like increasing the damage modification of Staccato, increasing either the % of damage mitigated by Diminuendo or the duration, and increasing the duration of Tempo.

In general i agree with the op's assessment. I main support myself and while i main leona and braum i have been using nami more latelt and sona a bit last season. Heres my take on it.

Nami is better for lane phase and still very much viable late game. Reason being she does have lvl 1 cc and if she gets caught by a thresh hook or leona zenith or what have you she can Q to escape (assuming they land the skill shot) and not have to burn flash every time they get into danger. Her poke and heal potential is great and more mana efficient than sona in lane. She also provides a nice ult which is situationally better than sonas ult and with far longer range.

Sona by comparison is screwed if she gets caught without flash or ult and offers zero peel for her adc other than ult (pre 6 you get caught your basically dead)

Sona DOES bring auras to the table for her team though and her ult while much shorter range than namis of corse provides a tremendous amount of lock down. Her heal also gives her allies a shield but it takes a fairly skilled sona to make full use of that shield.

As far as builds go, nami can basically go full tank and still be viable, this is not as true for sona as her pokeing abilities just dont hit hard at all without some AP.

Marthian1 votes

Forgot that Sona can push turrets with allies way better than Nami ever will.

How come? item 3504 (And no, the item is anything but crap on Sona. There's very little reason not to build it on her.)

But nami is more mechanically difficult to hit q than sonas braindead, walk near and press q aa... That is the difference, sona is click and instant reward, where nami has to plan her abilities out.

there are only 4 players in all of NA that can play sona without powerfeeding in front page elo and you think shes easy and doesnt require planning LOL

ap sona requires flawless judgement of the next 5-10 seconds of gameplay or you just simply feed

go play vs a front page elo thresh/blitz/naut main and lets see how many deaths it takes before your team reports you for intentional feeding

sona has the most difficult positioning on league of legends especially if you actually play sona and use her aggressively in peoples faces instead of pretending you are helping

i am only stating how sona's q is easier than nami's, that is all

more proof that idiots exist in diamond.

then again you are a supp main, prob got your ass carried.

sona can build ap and be a semi carry and damage dealer, something nami cant do that to the same effect sona can because of sonas amazing synergy with lichbane.

Sona is more of a number-oriented support (more damage, shields, and heals), while Nami is more all-around as a support. Both have fairly different playstyles so it's not really logical to say "Nami is simply better than Sona" in general.

Unless you are talking about who's better IN THIS META, then yes, Nami is better because of what she can do, which is enough good stuff for a support today.
