Sona is a support identity crisis while being unable to do anything other then "support" effectivly
She is either screaming not to be confined to support or just screaming wanting to be 100% support
Her bases suck, requiring her to build a ton of AP
Thanks to that fact and being labled a support, she has terrible base stats and gains, causing her to not work very well in any other lane what only has herself
She builds

even as a support, because her kit synergies with these items very well BUT she is a support, she should not be able to build these items and usually cannot
So one of two solutions should arise when considering the Sona changes in 5.18
- Make her reliability on gaining power from AP much less, this means hurting ratio's but making her bases much better 2.Make her a support who builds these "AP Mid items" as her identity, turning her into a "carry support" giving her the ability to gather these items with the intense gold cost a support is required to build full AP, this would be the complete opposite, making her base values litterally the worst of all champions in the game, but having amazing utility and damage ratios to compensate for it
