Nasus: What Am I Doing Wrong?

Nasus is one of my favorite champions. When I play him however, I'm berated for my low Q stacks. Ideally they say, I should have 300 stacks by minute 20. I don't know how to Q, apparently. Not charging into the fray against a healthy Pantheon who's constantly chucking my life-bar away, what was I thinking? Sure, I solo'd a few towers here and there, but surely I can't comprehend how powerful my Q can be. I didn't Q an entire wave because I was typing, but that's hardly an excuse, is it?

What am I doing wrong with Nasus' Q? I Q whenever I'm permitted, only when I'm certain it'll work. I only managed to get ~350 stacks by the time my team won.

You need to last hit with it. Your passive is really strong at letting you sustain through lane, so you just have to trust that you'll heal up from harass.

You also always want to get a defensive item first - Glacial Shroud is great against Pantheon. If you're against someone like Vladmir, a Spectre's Cowl would be a strong choice to get a Spirit Visage early.

You want to get CDR for more Qs in lane, so that you can farm it as much as possible.

Your runes and masteries may also be off-point, would you mind sharing them?

You shouldn't focus so heavily on offense. Nasus' kit is designed to build tanky, and he gets damage supplements in his Q, E and R. He can stack indefinitely and even with no AD, his Qs will hurt. His E lowers armor, which will let more of that get through without the need for purchasing penetration items. And his R scales with the enemies maximum health.

I'd suggest digging at least 21 in to Defense - the other 9 split up for things like Double-Edged, Butcher and/or Meditation.
