Maokai's ult is trash
It's just a root with minimal damage that you can easily outwalk. You might as well just refresh the cooldown on his W. His original ult was perfect Riot can't you revert it like you did with Zac's ult?

i agree im not a fan of his new ult, i dont believe the way his old ult worked was ideal for a "tank" it legit made it where he could go ap bruiser and out sustain and burst people down in a 1 vs 1.
but his ult isnt as bad as it seems, i think it does need to approach faster , but its great when you can use it in tight spaces, side ways across a lane instead of up a lane. and its really good in terms of using your W or 
to engage on an enemy and then Q them back and then ult back across trapping the enemy between you, ur ult and your team on the other side.
what i think maokai needs, and this is a small change is to bring back splash/impact damage on his saplings , they are too unreliable for trades/damage and you cant cs with them. in the past prior to rework you could use the splash/impact damage to cs when in bad match ups and you are being zoned from a wave, no its not a big change and it wont save him in every bad match up but it would allow him a lil more capability in lane phase
Don't play maokai but it's pretty near undodgable if you're fighting in the jungle or over baron/dragon. A 51% winrate is respectable so it can't be that bad.
Maokai is pretty terrible. Theres no way to justify playing him.
tbh it works better if you using it to collapse from the other side of a gank
