Am I The Only One Actually Hyped For The Preseason?

ArnoldSchwarzens··57 votes·2,661 views

Sure, some things are going to change for the worse, everyone says how they don't like the plants, I still don't know whether or not I like the Fervor of Battle and armor pen changes and the game that we were just getting used to is going to get turned on its head again.

But that is the beauty of it. There are so much new things to test, with so much things changing and the lack of a pro scene the Meta won't be defined for several months and for that time we can mostly do whatever the fuck we want.

For me as someone who loves this game mainly for theorycrafting and testing new builds, jungle routes etc. in-game, the preseason is basically heaven. There are so much new things to try and if they actually work, you feel much smarter than you actually are.

To everyone who is reading this, just try to have fun for once while playing with the new changes. If you go into the game with the attitude that everything new sucks without even testing it, of course you're not going to have fun with the preseason.

I think everyone right now is in the mindset of "Oh, it can't possibly be worse than Season 6!"

I really want it to be good. Genuinely. But I personally don't believe this game will ever change for the better until they start listening to their fans instead of labelling them a "vocal minority."

thanks, you just described my feelings

new masteries, new items, nothing has been done to improve melees in high elo, i might quit master and create tons of smurf to have fun.

I know I'm not Akali

Im right there with you. I was super hyped for the Assassin rework, until I saw the Akali changes. It doesnt help that all of my good friends are celebrating that shes getting nerfed into the ground, due to their general hatred of her. I honestly feel extremely disappointed about the Akali changes, when Riot could have done so much better.

I'm just sad about the removal of SotA

Assassins are on the rise though so my Morde mid might just become his primary role

ArnoldSchwarzens8 votes

Never really liked SotA. While you knew it was there it always was the least interactive all keystones. Plus, going for some fun stuff like Thunderlord's, Fervor or any other Keystone in the jungle felt impossible just because the mandatory SotA existed that you had to take on almost every jungler.

Courage on the Colossus on the other hand . . . oh boy. It's going to be super satisfying to watch that big shield pop when you CC the whole enemy team with Alistar Amumu Nautilus Malphite and you will actually be able to see what your keystone is doing.

Malicious Metal8 votes

Well, Morde, Garen and co. don't really have hard cc to make use of that mastery even though they'd gladly fling themselves into the midst of battle.

ArnoldSchwarzens4 votes

I'm not sure about all these champions because I rarely play them these days but every Garen or Darius I see are either running Grasp or Thunderlord's and they seem to be pretty successful with it.

On Morde I actually have to pass. You see him so rarely and there is so little data on him that I can't have a proper opinion on him.

What do you even build on him these days? You always say that Rylai's is mandatory but outside of that I have no idea. What about masteries? Do you go Thunderlords for the burst, Deathfire for the DPS? Or do you maybe even take Stormraider's and use it similarly to how Illaoi uses it?

Malicious Metal7 votes

I usually go for SoTA but now I gotta look for a suitable replacement. Grasp looks promising in certain situations and Stormraiders falls off late, gotta theorycraft some more.

In terms of items I usually go for item 3116 item 3053 item 3146 item 3065 item 3742 Sometimes I replace Gunblade for item 3078

Was about to say I am surprised you don't go stormraiders. I thought every morde went that mastery. I know it's my favorite one on him. I use to always use deathfire before thinking stormraiders was trash till I finally tried and it was like, damn... this is awesome.

Malicious Metal2 votes

The thing with Stormraiders is that it might help you early and mid game but it falls of a cliff late when you're getting kited more, need to stick to a target and most of them having some MR by then.

It's not as reliable as let's say the free 300 HP mid game that boost your shield, allow you to get Swiftness in the resolve tree and other beneficial stats.

BastionKross1 votes

That's one of the things about Stormraiders that just isn't designed well. If you're powerful enough to proc it, you become godly for as long as it lasts. If you aren't powerful enough to proc it, you essentially have no keystone which is crippling.

Feast or famine.

DeathBurst1 votes

I personally go for DFT for the DPS, or very rarely Grasp if I want to play more passively. But I don't have Malicious Metal experience, so take that with a grain of salt.

Ralanr1 votes

I'm actually glad for that. They finally made a mastery that most juggernauts can't abuse and mainly benefits tanks.

It really helps with the whole "juggernaut ruining tank toys" problem IMO.

Malicious Metal1 votes

When exactly did Juggernauts ruin tank items, huh?

Ralanr1 votes

It's not just items, but also masteries. I'm probably wrong, but I feel that champions like Mundo and Volibear lead to some nerfs towards health regeneration masteries.

Honestly I'm probably just a bit biased, but I worry whenever a new top or jungle tank thing comes because I fear juggernauts will lead to it being nerfed for tanks. Juggernauts can make up for it because they aren't just about being durable, but also about dealing damage. Tanks however really rely on being as durable as possible so they can survive to provide their CC or utility.

It's just my uneducated concern.

Malicious Metal4 votes

The thing with tank items is that they're as efficient regardless what class you are. An Assassin can build a randuins and get all the benefits.

Not a single tank item is specifically tailored to them as a class. And Juggernaut items got abused by other classes because of that as well.

DeathBurst1 votes

I always took Grasp on Garen, never SotA. Potentially DeathFire or Stormraider for a cheese build, but that's all. On the other hand, they'll love the new Battle Trance. I'm currently using 12 points in Cunning as a secondary for Bandit and the increased damage on wounded targets, but I'm seriously considering switching to Ferocity with all the new modifications.

Romtheguy1 votes

The best part is that you only have to hit your hard CC on ONE champion that is grouped with others to activate the shield. Prepare yourselves.

I'm more hyped on the new support goodies and the rise of assassins so I get to shine more as a Lulu main.

Play Chogath. The sustain and free defensive stats of a tank combined with the generous AP ratios of a burst mage. Cho eats assassins alive.

Literally.

They are heavily changing several of my mains so I'm a bit worried but overall hyped. Change always comes with a backlash from people who have things figured out and don't want to go through the discovery and re-learning phase. But overall it's for the best to keep things feeling fresh IMO

New things does not mean good things.

Especially if Riot fucks up and does not fix what they fuck up......

I don't give a toss when changes are made for the sake of changes...

There are only 3 things im concerned about in the preseason. Fizz, Rengar, and Vayne. Im expecting all 3 to be insanely broken. Permabanning vayne while i wait to see the power level of the other 2. Duskblade finding wards is pretty dumb too but probably not that gamebreaking because only like 7 champions or so will even want to use it. Very excited to play Talon and LeBlanc. Should be fun as hell. Even looking forward to flex queue. Normals match making is trash so now i'll have a spot to learn champions against people of MY ACTUAL FUCKING RANK! (kinda triggered right now). Probably wont use Flex for trying too hard, ill just focus on getting off rust on a few champions i havent played for a while and trying new builds that have popped up. Solo queue is where i'll actually go all out. Season 7 looks pretty good from the previews of new features so far to me, and with only 3 alarm bells going off im hoping it lives up to what im hoping for

Spoofghoul2 votes

i will definitely pull out my 10k hp sion build again just to get that 4k colossus shield which i then boost to a 5k shield with my own shield

just for shits and giggles

maybe ill change one of the warmogs for steraks, yes it will cost me a few hundred hp but then i can get like an 8k shield which is nuts

thats like 30% hp steraks 180 + 35% colossus + 140 + 10% W shield fucking 320 base + 75% max HP shield

it is going to be so epic lol

Im looking forward to preseason because I am hoping it switches to a tank meta, with assassins

I loved that meta, sure games took an extra 15 minutes, but it felt dangerous to be an adc, good to be a tank.

Every role is doing their job.

Adc- afraid tank - relevant assassin - afraid of tanks

all is right in the world

My main and secondary main are both getting small scale reworks (Kha'Zix, Shaco). My main role is getting a revamp (jungle).

Even if I'm not hype, I have to look forward to it because it effects me so much.

ArnoldSchwarzens2 votes

Kha's new evolved Ult and Q seem super fun to me, I'm definitely going to try him.

On Shaco I actually did a lot of theorycrafting. There are so much new things to consider.

First, there's a really cool new cheese route for Shaco. If you clear Krugs and Red after, you will be level 3 and able invade the enemy blue side jungle before he hits level 3 and cheese kill him at his wolves, if he goes for a full clear. Or you can cheese gank mid when both midlaners are level 2 while you are 3. Most junglers need a long time to clear krugs but Shaco got his boxes which makes it much easier for him.

There's also a new peenetration/CDR build I want to test. Since you already get artificial crits from your new backstab passive and because you don't scale as much with attack speed anymore, going for this build seems much more worth it to me.

It's CDR Boots, Skirmisher's - Warrior, Youmuu's, Duskblade, Ravenous Hydra and a defensive item like Edge of Night, GA or Dead Man's to top it off.

The combination of his Q on-hit + Duskblade on-hit + backstab crit + Hydra + E will make for some hilarious oneshots on squishies.

Then there's the AP build. While I don't know if it's able to jungle properly but it's probably going to be hilarious in the top-and midlane. His Q now has an AP ratio and the duration of boxes now also scales with AP - on top of the clone now also dropping a triangle of boxes, who have an AP scaling on their own. If the new control wards wouldn't be a thing, I feel like this new AP Shaco would be extremely strong.

RavenMagus1 votes

I feel like damage in the game is way too high already, especially with ADCs, and they're only making it higher for them.

They're reducing assassin instant burst potential, so ADCs will just kill them when they try to do anything.

Sadly I can't say I'm very hyped for this.

As someone who likes high burst assassins and mages, I actually want fewer high damage options in masteries because that would allow my picks to shine, rather than just doing the same thing that everyone else does anyways.

Sevixys1 votes

Well, that's the thing. you must outplay with the assassins. Currently it's just plain easy. Now when the burst window has widened, they have the same damage potential but with a little while for others to react summoner 4

Also, tanks have got some sweeeeet masteries. Just take a look at that Courage of the Colossus? Nautilus will be op..

RavenMagus1 votes

How do you outplay an ADC, though? They'll just right click on you and you die.

The window for assassins to kill has been increased, but not ADCs. They'll still two-shot you.

Sevixys1 votes

You have mobility, they don't. If an adc kills you, you must be bad.

RavenMagus1 votes

The best counter to mobility is point-and-click, which is what autoattacks are.

Sevixys1 votes

Eh, ok.. I don't even bother to argue with you - fruitless.

RavenMagus1 votes

I made a counter point to your one argument, and you don't wish to argue.

Well, sure!

JackMcSnipeyz2 votes

ADC counters is that they insta die to any burst and that assassins have that plenty + mobility + evasive tools. Every assassin worth his salt will win against an ADC

RavenMagus1 votes

Yeah, that's definitely true. But they're actually changing that in the preseason - on the assassin side, anyways.

A lot of assassins are getting enforced delays in their kit, like Leblanc, who must wait 1.5 seconds to proc sigil of malice instead of just instant burst. That's what I'm trying to get at.

A lot of assassins are losing that instant burst. (Except Khazix, I guess? I hear he's really strong still)

JackMcSnipeyz1 votes

The only one who got a real deley is like you said - le blac. The rest just have more room to avoid the fight rather than deleying your death (like rengar or kat)

Heck, rengar gets guranteed crit on his ult, think how much damag he'll do with sheen, IE and duskblade.

RavenMagus1 votes

Well, Rengar got the attack resets on his Q removed. That's actually pretty huge especially if you've built an IE.

Also he only gets the guaranteed crit on the champion he senses with his thing, which is whoever is closest to him - so allies can potentially bodyblock his crit ability for you?

We'll see soon if he's still insanely bursty with time.

Also, Katarina recieved built in delays too - no more instant Ws while Shunpo'ing; it seems a lot of her damage will come from dropped daggers which take a second to hit the ground after being thrown. She does still have the ulti, though... As a Katarina main, I'm both excited and afraid to see what it's going to be like.
