PSA: Don't expect to get Ryze in a ranked game

The Deckowner··79 votes·4,193 views

Most of players ban Ryze because they don't want first time reworked Ryze in their team. Only few are actually scared of Ryze.

Don't cry when your team bans Ryze in a ranked game, it is definitely justified. If you want to play Ryze go play normals.

Just lost a game mainly because nobody banned Ryze and someone decided it was a great idea to first-time the Ryze in ranked because they ''never play'' normals.

Truly sad and epic, then the same kind of players will complain that they are stuck Silver or Bronze.

I've first timed like 2 champions in ranked, but they weren't on release. One was Nautilus I believe? Usually this is because of a trade that someone just doesn't go through with, luckily I was good at champions similar enough to these two that I won the two games.

Yeah, I've had to do the same thing in my first ranked game this season.

I was jungling and one of my allies noticed that Master Yi hadn't been picked, so they told us to pick him. Our support ended up grabbing them since they were first-pick and assumed I was the one talking.

Thankfully, he was fairly straightforward and I've played a lot of Udyr and Shyvana (who have somewhat similar playstyles). I ended up carrying the game despite never really playing Master Yi just because I knew to farm up and when to pick my fights (though it helps that I watch Cowsep on-and-off on occasion, so I just knew what I should be doing at most points of the game).

Despite the misunderstanding, the support was apologetic and rather nice. I ended up adding them and playing the next three ranked games with them.

They do it in plat and diamond too don't worry lol

Ryze atm is potentially one of the highest damage champions in the game capable of putting out a spell rotation of roughly 4k+ damage late game. Mind you that spell rotation can pretty much be fired every few seconds with 40% CDR.

A sharp knife on a wek kid <A strong adult with no weapon.

DeathBot6663 votes

True, but his comboes aren't exactly hard. he gets a 2 second snare, or an ability to cast 5 spells. 2 point-and-clicks and 3 skill shots, while that second skill shot is on a snared person so you shouldn't miss it.

Now, I'm not DEFENDING people who rank new things. I normally wait a week of something being out before playing so I know WHAT to do.

Just saying some people can pick him up pretty quickly, especially if you played old ryze a lot.

dragon1xx1 votes

I played the old Ryze...... His old ult was waaayyyy better. Just saw a Ryze ult his entire team into mine, when we had a Viktor with W and E up, a Naut ready to CC and a Swain. We destroyed them. IMO the old ult was so much more fun and unique.

NineTailedMystic17 votes

A big ball of stats ult? How is that so much "more fun and unique" when its biggest appeal was its passive that have 30% free CDR.

The Deckowner8 votes

having experience with old ryze doesn't really make it easy to play new ryze, since their combos are very different.

YuGiHo1 votes

Come on really? tis version of ryze is soooooo easy, like annie level easy. idk how people can mess up other than miss q.

DeathBot6661 votes

You could ult poorly and get everyone you ulted killed.

YuGiHo1 votes

thes more of the teams fault for being unaware if where ryze is ulting

DeathBot6661 votes

True, but its still somewhat Ryze fault.

ACENOX1 votes

4k damage? nop

Auz the Ripper6 votes

I've done the math, A full build Ryze, assuming Seraph's, RoA, Morello's, death cap, void staff and the elixir (plus boots) will do 3.3k damage with his upfront burst/first rotation and one more quick E-Q will put that number at 4.7k.

The guy isn't that wrong

Edit: forgot I included void staff in my calculations.

Schàdenfreude5 votes

Actually I am pretty scared of Ryze.

Marshbouy5 votes

He is seriously strong. 3 S grades today out of 4 games on ryze. His damage is through the roof. I do agree about the first time ryze part tho.

The Deckowner5 votes

Look at Taliyah, arguably one of the best mid laner right now, nearly hit the lowest win rate ever on her first few weeks after release. Doesn't really matter how strong a champion is, bad player can ruin everything.

EddardStark845 votes

Um you are aware that This was NOT as good as she is now post release right? It took major buffs to bring her up to the power level she's currently at. The two situations couldn't be any different.

Sounds like rengar release.

He was so bugged back then that I refunded him. Twice...

XeroKimo2 votes

I never understood why people are saying she's received major buffs, she's only been changed twice since her release

Q worked ground: 180 ------> 140

Q deals +50% dmg to minions.

She had a pretty weak early game before the 2nd Q change cause 1 full rotation of Q wouldn't even kill melee minions, and it took like 4 hits to kill ranged minions, so she had a pretty hard time getting items.

The first Q change, to me I probably wouldn't even noticed whether or not it was 180 or 140, but that also helped her out early game so worked ground can be lifted at earlier rates.

That's all she's received. I don't see no major buffs on her, even without those changes she would deal a sht ton of dmg, the only thing different is what time of the game she would be able to deal that dmg.

EddardStark841 votes

She had like a 31% win rate a week after release and even RIOT was doing damage control saying she was significantly under-powered.

Great Fox3 votes

Taliyah is not one of the best mid laners, she's still very lackluster compared to other mids that do her job better, like Anivia, Azir etc.

No, she got buffs. The point doesn't work.

The new Ryze isn't as bad as the recent Cass rework, but he's not super oppressive like people are claiming.

I believe he's very manageable, and requires you to have experience with him to be effective against enemies that don't mess up.

I wish people who played ranked were more considerate overall. Yeah you should have faith in your teammates, but you should also be considerate. That means not playing a champion that hasn't even been out for 24 hours in ranked. We all play ranked, we all know how toxic it is, don't contribute to that. You're more likely to get a complete jerk, and that's what we all see when we see you pick Ryze.

You could have the best intentions and honestly believe you're the best Ryze out there, but you have to remember you're a stranger to others. They don't know you, and when they see something sketchy like that they are understandably going to proceed with caution because it's ranked.

What if the guy played the new champion on pbe and also for all 24 hours that he's been out. (Rare exception, I know)

Do you still believe in the tooth fairy or something.

I don't think any of us are that gullible.

SociopathFriend4 votes

He's banned in Normals

Normals is typically used to mean "Blind Pick"- which honestly has always been my favorite way to plan for several years now. After all- if you're gonna play Draft Pick- you're pretty much just playing Ranked anyways.

RoodToob2 votes

Well, no you aren't. If you have a PC that loads slowly into the champ select and you want a role, you'll go into draft. Its why i do, my friend has a slow pc so for him we do draft. Its as much normals as blind pick

Battlecast Sona3 votes

I play draft pick so I'm not playing against cancer teams and can actually ban/counter really annoying comps. I thought blind pick was fun until enemy teams started just picking 3-4 fotm champs every game and stomping.

Arkatra4 votes

... or take a break from ranked like most of my friend do. New champ/rework - 4-5 days out of ranked.

Tobias Brackner3 votes

It's not justified at all. People don't have faith in their team out the gates, sounds like a recipe for loss.

This is a team game, have faith in your team.

DREADN0UGHT1 votes

I don't think that is how elo climbing works.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Your comment makes absolutely no sense and doesn't even remotely relate to what I'm talking about.

DREADN0UGHT1 votes

Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it makes no sense.

Whiteeye Avelyn2 votes

too bad he is permabanned in normals too XD

Oldwisepotato2 votes

hahaha actually my first ranked game yesterday the enemy team had a mid lane Ryze. After about 20 mins our mid laner started chatting with him. Turns out this was his first time playing the reworked Ryze. I jumped in and said "don't tell your team that". Of course much toxicity followed. We ended up winning the game fairly easily. Although it was a nice win, I do hate when people take a reworked champ and play them in ranked before trying them out. It really is a bs thing to do.

Jesus is Saviour1 votes

You can be banned for banning people's pick intent. FYI

Its a legitimate meta ban in this case.

General Esdeath 1 votes

I just hate when new champs are banned when all 5 of us pre-select something else. It's a waste of a ban because your team is clearly not picking it.

Shynkle2 votes

It's also for the enemy team, due to the Shaco effect they'll likely have a guy who is really good at the new Ryze and nobody knows how to play against him.

General Esdeath 1 votes

I get what you mean, but I'm not talking about Ryze. When Taliyah came out I had someone saying "I don't want any shitty Taliyah's on my team"

But I was mid and pre-selected Fizz. Our top was hovering Riven and the guy who said this was our support.

AFK Push1 votes

People that are new to Taliyah or Bard can throw teamfights or games singlehandedly with one or two shitty ults. The risk wasn't worth it when either was new at the time lol.

General Esdeath 1 votes

But none of us were picking it.

AFK Push1 votes

As said above, they can be detrimental to your team and a godsend to the other. Just because they might screw over your team by some bad decision making/mechanics, they might be a great taliyah player on the other team and do the best ults cutting off your team turning every fight into a 4v5 or 3v5 making you think (I shouldve banned that bitch) lol.

General Esdeath 1 votes

Did you not read what I quoted him saying?

"my team"

maembe1 votes

Every time a new champ comes out I have to ban it in ranked because I still have "Ally Executed!" echoing in my head from someone playing "Jungle Jhin" on the day that Jhin came out.

General Esdeath 4 votes

Jhin "There are only 3 wolves?!? Where is the 4th? I can't do this!"
