Just though of a Crazy Idea: Let's give Yasuo a Mana Bar

DeadUnborn··5 votes·1,095 views

A lot of Yasuo's frustration comes from his capability to spam all of his abilities without consequences or real thought involved into them. Sure, A GOOD YASUO PLAYER won't just spam them, but if he missues them more often than not there will be little repercussion unless he is super extended and gets ganked or dives under tower or something of the like

What if Riot changes NOTHING about Yasuo, but gives him a mana bar on top of his flow bar. Now all of the sudden 2 things happen:

  • Essence Reaver becomes core on him, thus reducing the efficiency he currently has stacking attack speed and thus greatly reducing his Q CD up front. He will have to buy it if he wants to spam his E, but because CD has so little benefit to his kit outside his W, his total gold efficiency on his passive will be reduced.

  • He now is mana gated early game and can't just spam his abilities without thinking

EDIT: Rather than downvoting, I would invite you to write down why this idea does or does not work, which is more productive

how bout we just nerf him more instead of ultra Buffing him like they are

I think my solution is a great compromise for yasuo users and haters

hahahaha yea yasuo mains tend on hating this kind of threads

I would think more of energy for him instead of mana.

DeadUnborn1 votes

I'm not a huge fan of energy. I think it is too ambiguous and wouldn't work with Yasuo's kit because mid and late game he does need to spam his abilities to work, which Energy's design does not permit

Yasuo item 3042 Yes please do.

A better idea would be to make his non-dash skills cost flow as a unique resource.

Him having tear is fine, as tear has an internal CD and would delay his damage output early game. Late game he is supposed to have absurd levels of damage, and he is gonna ROFL-stomp you regardless of him having a tear or an infinity edge.

I myself used to think having his E cost flow would be a good solution. However for that to work the shield component of the passive would have to be removed, as proking it would completely maim Yasuo's ability to trade

Sounds beautiful

I cant see him building it tbh, tear would set him back. Yasuo is stupid for being a lane bully and a hypercarry, he is set once he gets shiv+ie, tear would just needlessly delay that mid game spike

the problem is is that Infinity edge makes his reduced crit damage from his passive non-existent which should honestly change.

IronwallJackson2 votes

No it doesn't. Yasuo has a multiplicative modifier on his crits, set at .9 for his AAs and .75 on his Qs, meaning those hits for 180% and 150% damage, respectively. Infinity edge then changes these numbers to 225% and 187.5%.

Not only do his crits still do less damage than normal, the gulf widens further between Yasuo's crits and those of a normal ADC's.

I like that idea. I hate that q and e spam too. Really not sure why you're getting downvoted.... Probs gonna get downvoted here myself but just pointing that out

DeadUnborn1 votes

Probably just yasuo mains reading the title and downvoting without reading th thread

Spicy Rice2 votes

He getting downvoted because he is straight up nerfing a champ without any compensation buffs.

Not to mention, this isn't a unique idea. It's been put forward and refuted too many times to count, so OP posting this just shows poor research/understanding of the problems surrounding changing yasuo

DeadUnborn1 votes

The worst nerf is permabanning a champ. Without placing mana costs on abilities you have no idea if tjis would be a significant nerf or not. The only one who is showing poor ability to read throughly is you, as I have stated in tjos thread yasuo could get compensatory buffs if he needs them and that mana costs should only gate his early game. The problem eith yasuo is that he is frustrating to play against, not being op in overall win rate. This solves that problem

Spicy Rice1 votes

This doesn't work because you are trying to use mana to gate a kit whose effectiveness comes from its lack of gating (other than cd's)

He's already payed for not having to use mana in his kit, so making him use mana is nothing more than a nerf.

DeadUnborn1 votes

Gating by CD? only his W has an actual CD. All other abilities he has have super low CDs to the point of them being irrelevant.

Sure, him having mana is a nerf, which I find fair. What exactly does he pays for atm by not having mana?

Spicy Rice1 votes

His abilities barely have any base damage. That's what he pays for not having mana, and for them being "spammable"

And here's the thing, you are trying to nerf a champ, that by all statistics is balanced. That's not fixing any problems, it's just bad game balance.

DeadUnborn1 votes

That is not a price. He has a 100% scale on Q and a 4 second CD at worst. Having a low base on it isn't a cost of him being resourceless. It is a cost of the ability having such a low CD, forcing Yasuo to build damage by having a low base to make up for it.

Looking at other resourceless champs:

  • Renekton's Q has a 60 base rank 1 but an 8 second CD
  • Rek'Sai's burrowed Q has a 60 base rank 1 on an 11 CD

Now going to champs that use mana:

  • Yi's Q has a 25 base rank 1 on an 18 CD Vi's Q has a 40 base damage rank 1 on a 16 CD Fizz's Q has a 10 base damage on an 8 CD

Yasuo has it at 20 on a 4 CD, which is reduced by attack speed and enables his knock up

Having low or high damage bases is done to ensure certain builds, effects like mobility and dps is achieved, regardless of a champ being resourceless or not

I'm not trying to nerf the champ, I'm trying to make him not oppressive so he is not perma banned. Compensatory buffs can be made if they need to happen, but yasuo NEEDS to be less frustrating to play against

Just a bit worried about underplaying the synergy he shares with items then; Tear into Triforce Yasuo maybe?

I think Yasuo's problems can't be addressed with a face-lift fix, they need to address two facts: 'double stat' is a shitty cop-out mechanic, and 'shield on damage' is too much defense on principle, no matter who they put it on.

Yasuo's empowered Q's activating the shield (which would then enter a window to be damaged and act like a counter-shield) or something else that places more agency (thus responsibility) on the player is what Yasuo needs. He lacks in player responsibility, and even the most basic fools can pluck a build out of the ether and have it work on Yasuo. He looks and acts complex; it's indeed easy to screw him up. But all in all, even in the hands of an idiot he's a far safer pick than many out there because everything's really basic on him and has clear windows. For all of this, his gameplay is still coddled by mechanics that the rest of League sort of has to dream about.

Mana might discourage outlier players, but I think it would just enable builds he doesn't need enabled.

Other champions already have that synergy (Ez and Lucian namely) and they are not broken. As long as Yasuo has to build Squishy to deal damage and his build kicks off in mid to late game it's fine. If it really becomes a problem follow up changes like having his E cost more mana but refund 50% on minion last hits with E or having his Q damage scale with crit like Xayah's E could be made

hey need to address two facts: 'double stat

My point with him having mana is that Yasuo would have to build two unnecessary stats for him by having a mana bar: CDR and well, mana. This in my mind would offset the gold value he gets from his passive while "forcing" him to buy crit items still. Thing is, Yasuo needs to be tied to build crit to be fair, because otherwise he would have access to bruiser builds and that would be a nightmare
