@Riot Would you ever consider bringing back the pre-rework champs? Even in just a gamemode??

LatetotheRace··47 votes·2,286 views

I'd like the ability to play pre-rework Sion and Mordekaiser, but I know that you'll never just bring them back. So either make them playable during the next urf possibly, or we could create a new gamemode?

Imagine Ascension, but when you get ascended you change to a buffed pre-rework; Sion, Mordekaiser, Darius, Cassiopeia (V1 or V2 possibly both), Quinn, Malzahar, Anivia, Veigar etc. This would both require minimal effort (all things considered) and would revitalize both ascension and add a semi-new and fresh gamemode. Who wouldn't want to play for a chance of playing Mr. Get on my chopper himself. That's right frankenstein's axe-wielding monster Sion.

I've read somewhere that they don't keep backups of changes like this. Like say you wanted to play Sion from patch 3.5 I don't think they have that info saved so they couldn't bring that to us.

Cheers it might be fun but I think it's just better to always look ahead instead of reminiscing of the past

Sometimes i sit down and get really nostalgic about season 5 ryze, then i remember that he was completely busted and hard to balance.

Elikain3 votes

Season 5 Ryze? I've been with this game from the very start of the beta. I played Ryze back then. He was a glass cannon mage that could utterly destroy you with Spell Flux 1v1, because it bounced between you and him and was super low CD. He practically won every trade like this.

I enjoyed his glass cannon state because that's what i consider mages to be - a lot of damage but basic survivability. I didn't like his mana battery rework and then AP tank rework. This one is a ton closer to how he used to be an i am not nostalgic about his old abilities, just what he used to be. Now he feels like a proper mage to me.

I can't help but think they do actually have the info for security purposes.

OMFG!! PLEASE BRING BACK PRE-REWORK QUINN!!! I DREAM OF VALOR ALMOST EVERY NIGHT!!!

I admit, I feel it was unfair that Valor lost his in-game icon/portrait after Quinn's rework. The two were released as Quinn and Valor, and now it's pretty much become Quinn (with some touches of Valor).

The whole point of a rework is to get rid of the toxic elements in a champion

there are also reworks to underpowered champions that are designed to make that champion broken for several patches (juggernaut update)

Then why have they been stalling on assassins? Number 1 reason; greed.

They're not stalling. They announced from the start that the assassin update would be preseason so it doesn't interfere with Worlds. It's not stalling at all when you announce a release date and keep that date.

This was a request 2 seasons ago, they're just now getting to it. http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/L6045ncE-riot-moves-like-a-snail-and-no-longer-cares-about-quality

Your insult is uninspired, like unsalted butter; unfunny as modern comedies; lacking purpose like politicians, and ultimately missing the point. Read through some of the comments, since you can't read between the lines of his monologue, they state the issues quite clearly.

renegadesoul2 votes

It's not about 'toxicity,' that's pretty unquantifiable, if you look at any of Riot's reworks they base it on "counterplay potential." I.e. Sion and Taric's old stuns couldn't be played around, same with LB Q silence, etc.

People played with and against those champs for years in their un-counterplayable state and still had fun with the game; Riot just wanted to encourage more 1v1 "outplay" potential. It was a gameplay thing.

So there's no argumentative reason they can't go back to pre-rework champs in a game mode; if I didn't want to face pre-rework LB, I wouldn't play in that game mode. There's nothing inherently "toxic" or bad about the way old champions were designed, I know a lot of people would have a blast reliving those old style champs.

But if they don't have the data, they don't have the data, who knows.

to be fair if you look back at some changes champs that were reworked because they were problematic might be more balanced with all the changes and how the meta is working out.

I would love to play the pre-rework (as in, ORIGINAL, not Riot Trashu version) of Cassiopeia, but it's not feasible because they probably removed all data of "old champions" from the game.

Oo, I've always wanted to play the first iteration of Ryze. I heard he was broken.

Been thinking of this idea for months now... "Patch Mode" gamemode consisted of all the champions and on the old Rift and whoever you pick is played at the stage of the FIRST EVER release patch.

I miss old taric :/ PLaying top with him was so nice ...

LatetotheRace1 votes

Try AD taric top. The new passive is pretty easily abused. You can lay down the pain for sure.

ShadowParker1 votes

It won't ever happen. The problem is that they'd have to test every single pre- rework for every single game mode to make sure they weren't bugged.

On top of that, if a bug were to surface, the code would be complicated compared to champions nowadays.

BRING OLD POPPY BACK !!!

Sightless661 votes

This would require minimal effort

Can't really agree. It would require a ton of effort. Ensuring that the scripts governing abilities play nicely together is a major piece of Riot's work. Making all of these scripts from all across the game's history work together without bugging out horribly would be an ungodly amount of work. It would probably require more work than any game mode they've ever done before.

Besides, they didn't keep backups of the older changes. No real reason to.

LatetotheRace2 votes

I seriously doubt they don't have backups. "without bugging out horribly" That can be a "feature." Which I doubt would actually be a problem due to the simplicity of their kits.

Sightless661 votes

Bugging out horribly very often results in crashes, which stop being funny really goddamn fast. Early pbe cycles with new or reworked champions are rife with them, and that's after riot has worked on them enough to prepare for a pbe release. Even if it doesn't crash, getting shit like being permanently disabled because of shitty interactions is not very amusing. This will happen. It happens for every new champion and rework because of how hard it is to get all the scripts to play nicely.

They have said they do not preserve full backups.

LatetotheRace1 votes

I was kidding, but you know....

Sightless662 votes

Good to know. It's the internet. Sarcasm and speaking ironically don't fly well here.

Would be fun if it could work out well though.

This came up after the Garen VGU ruined Steel Legion Garen. Apparently Riot does not save models from old champions, so there is no way to easily bring back a pre-rework champion that got a Visual Update. Remember, all the old abilities had old particles, old icons, old animations.

This isn't a Gameplay question, its an art question. And the answer is 'no'.

They have taken some of the most fun champions in the game that people played and completely changed them...BRING THE REAL SION BACK!!!! I should not have to die to get what was so unique and amazing about sion...his incredible life steal and attack speed.
