Aatrox Buff Ideas

Recently, Riot was discussing changes to Aatrox, saying "We've been testing some stuff though and haven't yet found a set of changes we think would make him healthier and feel like an improvement to Aatrox players." I'm not the biggest Aatrox main in NA, but he's a champion that I like a lot, and I have an idea for some changes.

First, extending his Q- Dark Flight's hit radius. Make both hitboxes of it 20% bigger, causing it to be more reliable. Veteran Aatrox players won't notice much of a difference, but rookie players will enjoy the change. Second, potentially more health scaling? Aatrox is balanced around using health costs, but a small buff to his health growth may make him a bit better. A really cool thematic change would be being able to use R- Massacre while Aatrox is reviving. This could either cause Aatrox to stop healing health, heal his health all at once, or go into ultimate after the revive ends.

Just some quick buff ideas, but there's always the possibility that too high of buffs will make Aatrox a problem champ. Until the Diver update, this might hold him off.

You're just applying blanket buffs to him while ignoring the problems that made him need a nerf. Inexperienced players don't need help playing him, he's one of the most straightforward champs ever released. Better scaling doesn't fix him, he can already scale to deal absurd damage while regenerating absurd health.

Aatrox sucks because his early game sucks. His early game sucks because when it's really strong there's nothing the enemy can really do and when it's weak he has no fallback patterns.

Aatrox is basically a more mobile Olaf Classic: being good ruins the lane, but his only option is being aggressive while hurting himself so when he isn't super good he's useless.

Um... I think you have it backwards mate. Aatrox is actually decently strong in lane and kind of scales off unless you have the gold to build a carry centric build (crit or on-hit guinsoo). Increasing his scaling now won't fix his problems but like you said, will blanket his actual problems.

I don't think the OP's proposals are all that bad because the purpose of these buffs are kind of intended to blanket his problems until he receives his soft rework in the diver's update. In my opinion, just making his gap closer more reliable (cc immunity on Q or make it cast faster) and maybe increasing the slow or lowering it's c/d could go a long way in helping him become more useful. When it comes to numbers, everything becomes fidgety because if they don't hit the mark on the first try, then it becomes a waste of time trying to find the right balance in his stats.

his e needs to travel faster. They could make the travel speed scale with attack speed. It would also be cool if he had a unique item of some sort

easiest buff ideas to make him viable

Make his Q uninteruptable buff his stats overall

I'd agree with trying out the idea of making his Q uninterruptible, or even untargetable, but that's for testing. Stat buffs are a good idea too, as long as it doesn't go too far.

Making it uninterruptible is kind of a gamble. Would be really nice though.

I play quite a few aatrox games in diamond, one thing that hits hard are counters, not being able to heal, slows and any type of form of cc locks him down quite hard, his E slow needs to last longer and hit harder for how short of a range it is.

The only way to buff Aatrox is if by removing him from the game since even a spot filled by no one is more useful then Aatrox.

Champion shouldnt be balanced around low elo. And Aatrox is already easy to play.

useless.

Not cool, and not useful.

all these wont help with Aatrox problem

Just because you're new to Aatrox doesn't mean you're low elo. Riot had the same reasoning for buffing Vladimir: making him more open to new players.

useless.

How is increased health growth useless?

Not cool, and not useful.

In hindsight, it isn't that good of a change. No reason to have it.

Can you explain how health growth is useless? I'd like to see where you're coming from, just to get an idea.

I was saying its useless because this won't solve Aatrox problem

?

Counter-?

I wanted to know why you think it won't help, so I can think of a better idea.

Lowering the cooldown on his Q would be nice. It would really good if his Q's cooldown and cost got partially refunded if he gets CC'd during the animation.

He also needs better base stats so that he doesn't get stomped in lane so easily.
