Another $70 locked icon? Why's the in-game store trying to mimic mobile gaming so much lately...

Resolution··6 votes·2,688 views

Would we be able to get out of locking icons behind packages worth the same amount of a new release game? Seems like almost every recent event icon has been locked behind package deals rather than thrown up separately in the store.

When I started playing League back in 2011, you'd throw $5 dollars at a skin and that was that. Now almost every new skin is 1350 Riot points, and on top of that, we're seeing "Event borders" for an additional 890 RP. Paying 2k+ Riot points for a normal skin is always fun :/.

I noticed ward chromas are slowly entering the store as well. Neat, until you realize they just recolored it using the paint tool and did not change a single other feature... and somehow are charging the exact price as the base ward?

I don't want to see us getting into the habit of having events compared to mobile games every month. The whole "pay now for an exclusive border/icon/chroma" for more value then the package is worth separately isn't a welcome sight... just looks like your trying to find more and more ways to milk us each year.

I also want to know why some packages are valued at more, then if you buy the items separately? In some cases, your paying 600-800 Riot points for an icon in the bundle. Are you trying to rip players off and hope they don't notice?

Why do people care so much about icons?

Honestly, for people who try to collect things randomly over the years - it's just a kick in the face that you're now required to pay $100 each event to do so vs the old $10-15 per event.

Even before if you missed a skin, you could just pick it up later on. Now a lot of its locked behind time-limited content that expects you to throw massive amounts at the game.

But, it isn't a collection game. SO they aren't obligated to do anything to make it easy to buy cosmetics. It would be the companies loss anyway.

Not a collection game, but they've been adding extra means to make collecting easier. You can now view skin, emote, and icon tabs, all showing you what you have collected and what your missing.

Charging more for a product doesn't always mean more profit - Especially when it doesn't cost you anything to reproduce product after the design phase. You can make more selling lots of a product for less than a few for a lot.

I always found chromas really hilarious. These should be like some kind of free attachment to the skin itself, then just raise the skin price of $1. They're literally color changes. One of my friends that might even get sponsored by Ark does this type of shit and they said it was probably one of the easiest things when it comes to making skins like that.

Not that I'm buying anything from Riot, they need to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tGL-buZ94Y

What I'm curious about these Chroma wards - Is why they don't meet the standards set out from when they updated the quality of new chromas too include not only recolors but slight modifications to the skin such as a new shirt type/or pattern.

These recolors could have been done in less than two minutes tops and just looks like a lazy art department. To charge full price on top? Ew.

Chromas should have BE cost along with RP cost. It's kinda silly you already paid 975 or 1350 for the base and more for recolor.

Meanwhile there are people with shit ton of BE that they can't even throw away.

We need a gatcha icon, forum title/color, and profile wallpaper unlock that is a 1 in 6300 chance to fully realize our vanity item whale potential.

True fans only need the one they really like

The collector types just seem odd to me

I'm a collector, but only for the low grade free ones that say I was there. Earnable is col too, like the little lion/wolf icons from the god vs event

Most of your mobile games are free to play pay to win.
LOL is free to play and win, pay for cool skins and stuff.

The only gemstone package seems to be the $70 one

IMO, let riot charge as much for cosmetic as they think they can get away with, especially for the esports side. Ideally, that should be the number 1 way a game like league is monetized.

I think Riot intentionally adds Gemstones to drive up the price of the bundle.

I feel like they're doing anything to drive up the price of bundles. I have been playing for 7 years and I have never seen anything comparable to the $$$ "deals" that's currently in the store. I wouldn't be concerned if this was a one-time thing... but it's becoming worse each event.

Back when skins transitioned from 750-975 to 975-1350 Riot points they sold it to the player base as only high tier skins would be 1350. Then we saw dozens of new skins that would have previously been classified as 975's set to 1350. Heck, I even remember them increasing the price... yes, they actually increased the price of old skins to match the new skin price model.

Point being, there testing how much they can monetize and get away with atm. If history's taught us anything, we're going to see this alot more.
