Is it a common thing or is it just me hating master yi as a teammate?

The Deckowner··5 votes·920 views

MasterYi never gank, always farming, refuse to help any lane, often gets killed when enemy jungle invade or when they try to counter jungle, dont know what a ward is, always build full dmg and goes into 1v5 while got killed then curse teammates for "not helping him" or just straight up calling them names and verbal abuse them. and often these players have no knowledge about this game and have no idea what teamcomp is, thinking that everyone else should just build full tank (or expect everyone to deal infinite amount of damage to clean up the enemy when he died for no reason) and tank all the damage for him.

selfish champion, stupid players.

It's you.

New players (to a champ or the game) do suboptimal things no matter which champ they pick.

but i feel like i am never able to win a game with master yi teammates cause they dont play with the team, they are like another nasus, except nasus is actually useful.

do u consider the hybird build good? since ap yi was once viable.

and tbh i am not saying yi as a champion is poorly designed or anything like that, i am just saying master yi players are generally very bad.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

AP Yi was viable before it was reworked.

Back then, his Q had a high AP scaling.

Master Yi is actually strong. Plus you're supposed to build him full damage, he's not a tank nor bruiser. He's a assassin. Typically he should have

item 3931 item 3153 item 3036 item 3046 item 3031 item 3006 = Maximum carry potential on Yi.

More like this build = get blown up, end up useless in most cases. You don't need that much to carry with yi. Hell you don't even need one single crit item. Full damage yi can work if you really instakill someone, but it's riskier. You can very well go for a bruisery build and do wonders while being relatively resilient to burst.

item 3931 item 3047 item 3142 item 3153 item 3742 item 3156 for instance gives huge damage and ok tankiness.

You can possibly go even tankier, like item 3931 item 3006 item 3748 item 3143 item 3156 item 3071 (i prefer zerks here because you kinda lack attack speed if you have no attackspeed items other than sated, in the other one you're capped anyway)

Getting tanky on a assassin is a horrible idea; because Rengar is squishy do you get armor items on him? No. The fact of the matter is if you're a assassin you go in during the middle of a fight so you're not focused and kill everything. If you were doing what you were supposed to do and your tanks/bruisers weren't then that's not your problem.

No it's not. And Rengar is a bad comparison. Yi has insane and durable damage per second. Also he scales very well with on-hit items. Get a build based on item 3153 /item 3931 lets you have incredible damage, and you don't need much more. The whole idea after, is that you have to survive burst and CC coming at you. You have your alpha strike and meditate to do that, and a somewhat tanky build can help. Rengar, on the other hand, has very bursty damage, he gets 5 stacks and unloads his combo with the Q steroid for a short period, afterwhile his DPS is crap. Rengar is not a sustained fighter, he's an assassin. He does his combo and then he's kinda useless no matter the build, except if super fed. Yi is more of a dps fighter. Just survive and kill people. He can be played as an assassin, but it's as good and safer slightly bruiser. You don't get 2 tankyish items to be the main tank and get focus. You do it to survive burst and duel more easily.

Also, getting crit on top of item 3153 item 3931 is like trying to go for another scaling that takes so much gold to be somewhat efficient. You already have high attack speed, on-hit, high true damage. Going for crit synergizes with nothing else than attack speed and a bit of lifesteal, so it's like you're starting all over again for a build. You get average results, it's not a great scaling to get all of those. Better keep your high base damage of item 3931 item 3153 (item 3142 is possible for huge flat arpen/as synergizing greatly with item 3153 ) and then go for tankiness as your damage is high enough, just survive to dish it out.

Rengar on the other hand has buildpath that synergizes quite well with crit. Never gets item 3153 , goes for flat arpen. item 3074 arguably holds back the crit build for a moment, but it's still based on high AD, flat arpen, B1G KR1TS and os the carries.

item 3931 item 3153 item 3036 > Lets you proc HP damage item 3046 > Lets you proc more HP dmg/crit + true damage even faster item 3031 > Your crits get amped and you get more damage. But okkkk.

Why no item 3812 ? Stops you from being bursted, and since you'll be auto'ing anyway you can just lifesteal up.

The reason we farm is to make a massive impact later, gurantee kills for ganking and we WILL come

And i build tanky on yi(titanic+cleaver so dumb)

Not to bring up a stereotype, but in my experience, Master Yis ARE frequently toxic. More often than not, as a matter of fact. They also seem to AFK pretty often.

Not sure if there are stats to back this up, purely anecdotal.

i wish there are stats so i can prove my point.

One of my friends plays Yi a bit, and he had a habit of AFK'ing he started to feed. So... yeah.

He recently played another game as Yi, carried his team with a quadra. Almost Penta, but his Teemo accidently took it :D

Back to the OP:

Yi's playstyle early game is basically what we call 'Afk jungle'. Yi needs his items to be effective, as well as stacking up his Devourer. His early ganking sucks pretty bad anyway - he has no hard CC (or soft CC, unless he has red buff), and mediocre early damage compared to other junglers. He generally stays in the jungle and, well, jungles for items. He get's more gold that way, but no ganks means Yi is a risky champion. As are all champions who go Devourer (besides XinZhao , of course :P).

On the other hand, Yi is a hypercarry. He's also a melee hypercarry. That means he is basically your main source of damage, greatly out dpsing everyone else on your team if he gets fed. You should try to help him get drag early as much as possible, as it gives 5 Dev stacks.

'Not knowing what a ward is', is, well, just not reasonable. Rift Scuttle grants double the stacks as other jungle monsters, and gives a ward. Yi should be taking Rift Scuttle quite often, as his sustained damage makes it a pretty fast kill.

The verbal abuse is either just the players themselves or tilting. Yi expects you to engage for him - and rightfully so! If you've ever tried running at the head of your team to initiate a teamfight, you know that you just get focused and CC'd to death.

However, his 'feast or famine' playstyle does make him kinda selfish - it's better for your team as a whole!

The Deckowner1 votes

idk why but i feel like yi players are generally toxic and they afk/commit suicide alot. early game u dont see him anywhere unless u look at the minimap, mid and late game well u still dont see him anywhere because he is either split pushing without ward coverage or farming for some reason.

i am not afraid of facing a master yi, i am afraid of having one in my team, especially 4th/5th pick master yis which the team expect u to be the front line and initiate.

The carry potential of champ is proportional to how much of an ass their players will be.

Welcome to the horrible world of Master Yi players. A place where 9 times out of 10, all sense of human decency goes straight out the window. I'm right there with you. I dodge lobbies where I see a Master Yi, regardless of what team he's on. It just isn't worth the stress.

The Deckowner3 votes

i ban master yi in rank games so i wont get one as my teammate.

Twiggles1 votes

I also do that when I can.

Alakalzam1 votes

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....that gave me a good laugh. When I started playing LOL 5 years ago or so, Master Yi was considered OP by new players, so they'd always pick him, try to solo turrets without minions (sometimes they succeeded...backdooring was easier back then), and try to 1v5 the enemy team.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Legit though, many of them are probably new players who've heard he's OP and want to try him out. The only way they can learn his limits is through experimentation.

The Deckowner1 votes

lack of experience and mechanic of the player is the key factor here. i totally agree with u.

Ralanr1 votes

I used to think Yi was broken.

Now I just see him as a champion who will win the game if he farms and will kill anyone who tries to stop him too late.

I don't like hypercarries.

The Deckowner1 votes

i dont think yi is too strong right now. if you counter jg/invade him he will be at a very bad disadvantage, also without any ganking pressure his team will lose early game hard, unless the enemy jg is also a slow jg like diana or shyvana.

Ralanr1 votes

Exactly. He has counters and he isn't overbearing.

He's still a frustrating champion to fight when fed. Course some champions are just impossible to fight when fed (makes me wish that counterplay was available for fed champions).

The Deckowner1 votes

having a fed/unfed yi in ur team is not gonna be good cause if he is fed he gets cocky and dies, if he isnt fed he is useless.

Ralanr1 votes

Thus the problem with feast and famine/hypercarries.

0/0/0 Master yi can carry hard if he just farmed tbh. It's not a champion that relies on snowball/champion kills, moreso on farming up.

The Deckowner1 votes

the problem is at the current state of the game people snowball way too fast, all it takes is a jg gank at lv6 in ur bot lane to take down ur bot turret, then they will all go mid and take down ur mid 2, and after ur dyrus top got tower dived ur jg is not safe to farm anymore you will very often end up with the camp taken by enemy/getting caught out. and without jg control dragon is also lost, so as rift scuttle.

Well, Yi has to play to his strengths. He has one of the best jungle clears in game, insane duelling and can easily grow a 1-2 level advantage over the opponent jungle. A common tactic is to simply farm the hell up and have a TP to say 'hello, countergank I have 2 more levels than you'. Agreed that it's not the best metagame for him right now, still can do sthg. If all the master Yi's you meet suck, not my fault.

Sasogwa1 votes

Yi is a low skillfloor champion meaning he will often have better results while playing slightly worse, in low elo. So if you're there (didn't check) it's likely master yi's are pretty dumb. Becomes less true in higher elo because you have to get general knowledge in a lot of game aspects to get good results, no matter what your mechanics are.

The Deckowner1 votes

that is very true, i checked on champion.gg and yi actually has a one of the highest win rate for player bases who play him for over 125 games.

kaltenashes1 votes

he's a late game champ, his ganks are meh, depends on allies cc, or enemy who overextend and have no ward

i hate him so much (i still hate fizz much more), lotta games master yi fed, but if the game ever drags on a long time, he'll split push and win..in low elo people fking dont give a fck, they barely look the map, and i'm left in a 1vs1 scenario where or he'll kill me and take 2/3 turrets or ult and ran away

The Deckowner1 votes

no skill champs gets abused by low elo players, yi tryn katarina mundo all those shit.
