The amount of us low ELO players that complain about Lee Sin is astounding

Eedat··64 votes·4,403 views

He is legitimately garbage at our ELOs

Every single day there are like 2-3 threads on the front boards about Lee Sin. 80% of these threads are made by bronze or silver players. Why this is I have absolutely no idea. He is trash at our divisions. I'm Gold (which is still shit to be fair) and he's trash too. He doesn't even barely break a 50% win rate until Diamond ELO. In other divisions his winrate practically makes him a troll pick. His win rate in Challenger is meaningless when you take a look at how many champions have drastically higher win rates at this level. This game is not balanced around Challenger and there are FAR more powerful champions at this level.

I can't even fathom why so many of us low ELO players complain about him other than blind (heh) circlejerking.

Yeah he's strong early, for sure. But if you dont feed him 10 kills in 20 minutes he falls off like a sack of bricks.

"But Lee doesnt fall off"

http://imgur.com/Hd8XajY

Actual data says otherwise. Sorry, but I'm going to trust that over what some random stranger tells me on the internet.

People always want to use these scenarios in a complete vacuum where, for example, Lee gets a full combo off on a squishy carry in the lategame which just doesnt happen 90% of the time in a team fight unless you're pushed way too far by yourself. He's garbage at team fights. The "LC$BIGPLAYZ Insec Kick" fails 95% of the time in an actual team fight and attempting it just gets him killed for free. His mobility is conditional. You don't have unlimited wards contrary to popular belief.

I really dont give a damn about highlight reels from Challenger players. These players are gifted and play at a level that 99% of us couldnt make it to if we devoted our lives to it. Lee is pretty far down the pecking order of OP at this level.

I DREAD having Lee on my team and am a bit relieved when he's on the other. You can say "he takes no skill" all you want, but maybe try playing him. I can guarantee you he isnt the "freelo" you think he is.

And no, I'm not a 'salty Lee main'. Feel free to use your choice of a dozen sites to check.

Listen, Lee Sin isn't necessarily op its more the fact that he is in just about every game:

In Plat+ his playrate is 41.65% Bronze: 27.34% Silver: 48.59%

I'm fairly certain the vast majority of League Of Legends players lie in silver so the fact is that there is a 1/2 chance Lee Sin is picked

Just think about that That means if i play 1000 normals right now about 489 games of those 1000 have a Lee Sin in them This is why people tend to dislike the champion and start to grow a hatred for him.

Velzard of Koz2 votes

Yeah. And with champs like Yasuo who tend to get into similar spot, even If you do well against him, doesn't mean your team won't feed him, making it unnecesarily more challenging.

LegacyDAP1 votes

I can understand why people hate him. Hell I hate him too, he's super fucking annoying, but I don't think he's anywhere close to OP.

The only reason he's played so much in those elos is the exact same reason Riven is played in those elos. People enjoy extremely hard mechanical champions, but don't actually have the basics of the game down to do good with either of them.

people complain about lee sin because of HIS FUCKING PLAY RATE IS INSANELY HIGH IN A GAME WHERE THE AVERAGE SHOULD BE AROUND 5 to 10% divide the champion pool by 10 because we have 10 players in a team 134/10 = 13.4 now take this number 13.4 and use it to divide 100 to obtain percentage 100/13.4 = 7.46% That's the average play ratio a champion that can be played in ALL ROLES should have.

Now, lets be real, most of the time, you see lee sin in the jungle. That's 2 positions instead of 10. Now lets see how many jungle champions we have: Aatrox Amumu Chogath Diana Elise Evelynn Fiddlesticks Gragas Graves Hecarim Ivern JarvanIV Jax Kayle Khazix Kindred LeeSin Malphite Maokai Nautilus Nidalee Nocturne Nunu Olaf Pantheon Poppy Quinn Rammus RekSai Renekton Rengar Rumble Sejuani Shaco Shen Shyvana Sion Skarner Trundle Tryndamere Twitch Udyr Vi Volibear Warwick MonkeyKing XinZhao Zac Total: 48 Out of which lets say 6 are mistakes like: kayle, malphite, shen, renekton, quinn, sion Left: 42

Now lets say the enemy team (or yours) picks some of this champions in other roles: adc - twich = -1 mid - diana, cho, quinn = -2 (because there's only 2 mid laners) top - gragas, jarvan, jax, shivana, voli, udyr, trainda, trundle, etc = -2 (because there's only 2 top laners) sup - trundle, poppy, nauti, gragas, fiddle = -2 (because there's only 2 supports) That gives us a consistent pool of 35 jungle champions

Just like before, we are going to divide the amount of champions with the amount of positions (2) 35/2 = 17.5 Now we use that to divide the 100 to obtain percentage: 100/17.5 = 5.71%

This would be an average healthy amount. Anything above this is POPULAR So, lets say, twice the average is very popular. Everything ABOVE THIS is fucking broken is an annoyance.

#THAT'S WHY PEOPLE WANT LEE GUTTED, WE ARE TRIED OF HIM IN EVERY GAME, WE ARE TIRED OF HIM DEFINING THE META #IF THAT'S NOT BROKEN AND OVERPOWERED WHAT IS IT?

Seju was strong for 2-3 months = then she got gutted Kindred was strong for 2-3 months = then she got gutted Rek-sai was strong for 3-6 months = then she got gutted Nidalee was strong for 3-6 months = then she got gutted Skarners was strong for 1-2 months = then he got gutted Eve was strong for a months = then she got nerfed again Elise was strong for 3-9 months = then she got gutted (eventually rebuffed) Lee was strong #FOR 6 YEARS = HE STILL IS A TOP TIER PICK, HE IS STILL A S OR A TIER JUNGLER

Popular == broken

The correlation is definitely there (I'm not equating correlation with causation here).

Remember how Yi, Udyr, Xin and Noc suddenly became popular top picks at 1 point in game, despite enjoying statuses of being yester-year's fossil most of the time previously, all because of the introduction of a new item at the time that made them unbearably annoying not to mention OP?

People WILL flock to what wins them more games, not all, but MANY WILL, it's just how it is especially in video games most likely due to the existing attitude of treating the media as second-rate that we shouldn't take too seriously, which is making people far less likely to consider standards or principle and consequences, hence more easily tempted to abuse loopholes and unfair advantages or engaging in shady behaviours whenever possible.

I mean, why do you think "FotM" in general, where champs can suddenly rise to top picks due to a single balance change that highly favours them and dying off as soon as they're nerfed, is even a thing?

So to round back to the point in hand, do you seriously think Lee's 5-6 years of being top picks is entirely because of the virtue of the champ themselves and having nothing or very little to do with balance? Well, I got bad news for you fam.

OMGSoAnnoying1 votes

Ah, the devourer meta. Such a wonderful time to be jungling, it was.

Doozku1 votes

Except Lee hasn't been FotM for the past 6 years. Was he FotM during the cinderhulk meta? How about the devourer meta. The difference between Lee and champions like Nocturne and Yi is that Lee is a hard to play, yet very flashy and satisfying champion. As long as he's viable, he will have a high play rate and there's nothing you can do about that except to gut a champion which isn't even overly powerful.

As long as he's viable, he will have a high play rate and there's nothing you can do about that except to gut a champion which isn't even overly powerful.

You missed the point entirely, the point is that people have been proven to flock towards what's powerful, which is why FotM even happens in video games. And Lee has stayed up there, sometimes the absolute top, other times within top single digit, for the past 6 years. The reason for that is fairly obvious.

Also your reasoning makes no sense, if Lee is hard to play, do you think it will have a large public appeal?

I mean how many soldiers uses primarily a pistol and a combat knife in FPS games or even on the battlefield, or hell, how many do you see in FPS games or on real battlefields who even fight using entirely melee weapons these days? Isn't that hard to pull off, flashy and satisfying as all hell, at least compared to the standard formation oriented battle rifles route, why do you suppose no one ever uses that loadout? Because it's weak, ineffective and unreliable. Lee Sin is NOT weak, he is NOT ineffective nor is he unreliable, not by a long shot, hence the extreme popularity, whether or not he's "flashy" or whatever is simply not a part of the equation, a cherry on top at most.

There is a reason why Master Yi and Noc is almost never played beyond low elo under general circumstances, and it is NOT because they're easy to play or some random crap people always say without even going through their brain. If they're easy to play, as in you make do with less, then people should've been over them by now. The reason to why they're so very rarely played is that they suck and are extremely easily countered and played against. That's all there is to it. In reality, they are HARD in any environment that has some semblance of skill because they literally are handicap champs thanks to their somewhat butchered stats, very unreliable power curve, and 1 dimensional/inflexible kits that offers very little play depth and dynamics required to respond to different situations and emergencies. In this regard, they have a room, the room has a lower bar to entry, the flexibility ceiling (NOT power) is thus lower (and made lower with Riot's constant batting on the roof).

Lee sin is however, the real easy-to-play, because his bar to entry is constantly being lowered by Riot every couple patches, while their roof/potential is still all-time-high due to the size and plentiful dynamics of their kit. That is EASY, because you never need to work around the limitation of the champ, because shockingly that's such a foreign concept thesedays, that champs need to have a damn fundamental limitation on what they can do, you only need to overcome your bad-ness and everything will come easily at your way as Lee. You don't have to assess the situation and determine what you can or can't do, you don't have to worry about build paths to respond to different game scenarios, you don't have to worry about picking and counterpicking, and you don't have to worry about team composition and synergy, Lee literally by definition renders all of that consideration obsolete and if you're good enough in button pressing, you can do it. Isn't that the very example of something being "easy"?

Satisfaction does not give a champ more players, sure it place a part, but ultimately it comes down to power and effectiveness. Once again, Lee has been vastly popular for 6 years, there IS more to it than random arbitrary nonsense like "because he's fun". No. Lee Sin players can have the perk of being resourceless, sporting 2 dashes, VERY substantial dueling power, 1 built-in burst and execute, an AoE slow and a low-cd-point-and-click team CC not because he's more fun or that it's "flashy and satisfying" or "hard to play". It's because it's pretty darn and cocking useful and easy to use to have all of those in a package BY DEFAULT, which is one of the VERY DEFINITION of having more power, by being un-proportionally overloaded.

Not to mention, Lee Sin doesn't "As long as he's viable, he will have a high play rate". There are a couple times when Lee wasn't top pick, just as you've mentioned. And what you do suppose happened? Riot nerfed everyone in the current top picks of that time, and buffed Lee. And even if we ignore all that, fine, if there is indeed a champ who becomes top pick the instant they're viable, shouldn't that already means nerfs and reworks? Why do you even think Urgot was kept in the landfill for something like 6 years for (which he is still in btw), why was Sion and Poppy reworked, why do you think Ryze was reworked like 5 times (exaggeration but not that far off) and there is another one just right around the corner, why was Olaf gutted and left forgotten, and why was Zed's power properly addressed and readjusted to become actually fair to play and against despite being one of those "hard, fun and satisfying" champs people always like to throw around?

Because double standards, because when Lee is having traits common to all of the other trouble-makers in the past, he's not problematic, OP or whatever, no no no, because he's "hard to play, fun and satisfying". Oh please.

.................

The fact I have to type an article to thoroughly explain something as obvious, elementary and simple as this, since your stance is so wrong but unfortunately has been so highly propagated in the league community, is just baffling.

It's the same for Riven, her Bronze-Gold win rate is sub-par it only gets decent in plat and only fairly strong in Diamond-Challenger. Even then that is because in Diamond-Challenger she is played by dedicated mains almost entirely.

That doesnt mean the riven player is bad or the lee player is bad. You have to take into account the rest of the team in these elo's. A lee sin can go 10-0 by 15 minutes but if his adc has 20 cs at that point and the other has 80+, it might as well be gg for lee sin since he cant possibly 1v9 with a new to the game team. Thats how most of my games go on riven in low elo, I smash my laner, roam around, and we lose because the adc or jungler went 0-15. Sometimes both of them. (and i dont have the skill to hard carry a game as 3v5)

KONO RUBICK DA1 votes

By that logic every single champion should have less than 50% win rate in plat+

good one, i laughed

RisenDarkKnight1 votes

Actually Lee's bronze-gold winrate is over 50% and he's the best overall jungler right now accordign to champion.gg in gold and silver, and the second best in bronze.

FantasySniper3 votes

Less than one-third of games last longer than 35 minutes, and Lee is 50+ for that interval.

The average game length also gets shorter the higher the elo. So it's not a surprise Lee has a higher win-rate in higher elos despite his pick rate climbing with elo.

Stop blaming "low elo players". High elo players complain just as much. Not so astounding when literally everyone does it.

He might not break a 50% winrate in lower levels, but you better bet everyone plays him. You mentioned everything but his high playrate.

SEKAI3 votes

lol, that graph only proves he "falls off" IN COMPARISON TO HIMSELF, and NOT that he ACTUALLY falls off.

I mean fk me, even in late game 30-35min, where he is suppose to suck shit, he still sits on the "jungle champion average" (which he was ahead by around 3% before then), and in 40min+ he still has about 48% win rate which is not in any way bad, at all. Given he is supposed to have a sharp drop after his initial glory, but then you just showed us that it simply doesn't happen and he simply enjoys a steady decline from being overpowered to being average throughout a long match.

And I am not sure if that "29th" @ his 40+min mark is 29th of all champs put into jungle or 29th of all champs on the roster. But if it's former, it's already pretty fked up to have him stand before many other jungle champs even when he's far overdue beyond his early game power-spike. But if it's latter, it's completely insane for a champ who's supposed to fall off so hard in late game to still stand before the majority of the roster in his absolute lowest point.

But really, even excluding the last point I am not sure of and just look at the first point, do you call that a "fall off"? I don't agree.

Stats is meaningless if you don't interpret it.

ModKnightsKemplar2 votes

I'm currently eating downvotes in another Lee thread for making similar claims...

You are spot on. People LOVE to distort the stats (but he has a high winrate AND a high playrate) but he's not actually bad.

Now, having said that, I still hate that damn ward hop, and I firmly believe he's be a healthier champ without it. He's not OP, though. Simply untrue.

PlsCheckThisBush2 votes

Completely agree with you OP. Lee is a bully early game and loves to feast on the weak. He preys on being able to snowball himself into a massive lead by killing enemy champions, while being a mediocre jungle clearer as well. This is why everyone loves building Boots of Mobility on him early into the game to continue snowballing his lead around the map. Lee Sin doesn't like to afk-farm like Master Yi and Shyvana (or similar champion types), he absolutely needs to maintain his lead to be relevant. He's also incredibly easy to counter. Even the best R-Flash is easily predicted and can be Flashed, which often leads to him kicking you to safety or outright canceling his R completely and trading his Flash for nothing. Most of the threads created are due to "LEE SIN OP" when he's gotten a massive lead already and is 5 levels up on the ADC and completely capable of one-shotting them in that scenario. It's not even difficult at that point, as sheer base stats alone are enough to demolish you.

Try it out in a Custom game or the Practice Tool, let the enemy bot(s) get a significant level/item advantage, and try killing them. Even with their weak AI they will simply crush you with stats. This is why Rek'Sai and many other "beefy" junglers become a nuisance with a lead, as it's almost like hitting a brick wall at that point. The difference with Lee Sin is he has a miserable time building pure defensive stats and is reserved to being a utility-based champion at that point and going for the 65 minute game-winning kick while completely relying on his team to pick up the slack where he left off.

He's also incredibly reliant on wards for making his escape if there are no enemy targets he can safely Q -> Q to get out of there. His wards are generally not helpful to the team, and are often put in poor locations (see: inefficient warding) when retreating or closing the gap on a champion. While it's nice to have your ward count rather high, it's not so fun for Lee to be returning to fountain every 60 seconds to refresh his Tracker's Knife if he doesn't have any gold to buy anything with. The Warding Trinket is helpful, however you'll often want to upgrade to the Sweeper's setup (Lee is one of the few exceptions where keeping the refreshing Wards are often helpful, though) as a jungler to give yourself the element of surprise as well as deny the enemy vision. As people rank up, they tend to place better wards as games are often won and lost by vision control, and this makes Lee fall off even harder. He doesn't have a Rek'Sai tunnel he can freely use to go over the wall, he absolutely needs that ward to make it happen.

His Ultimate damage is very poor compared to other junglers. It hits only 1 target unless the enemy team goes full potato and stands in a perfect line for him, as well as being incredibly predictable. He's a one-way ticket sort of jungler, with a clear goal in mind. Sure he can mind game the enemy team by canceling his Q mid-air with a W, however this puts both abilities on cooldown - further making him useless for the next few seconds. His ultimate also requires him to be within 375 range, which is incredibly close (almost melee). Compare this to someone like Graves with 1000 range (and higher base damage) on his Ultimate with the ability to easily hit multiple targets.

Lee has always been, and will likely always be, an incredibly potent early game jungler dealing massive amounts of damage and having some of the most utility available at level 3, and more at 6. Many shapeshifter-type champions (Elise, Nidalee, Jayce, etc.) tend to do the same, as they have 6 full abilities where the enemy is likely stuck with 3. If he builds full AD and wants to one-shot someone, he's going to likely be demolished in half a second. Someone like Ryze really ruins Lee's day with point-and-click CC, and if Lee has no defensive stats he's often times going to be one-shotted himself. If he builds the typical Warrior/Cleaver -> Tank Items to transition into late game, his damage falls off like a bag of bricks. If you leave him alone with your ADC, he'll likely out-duel them, similar to leaving Darius (or really any other juggernaut style) unchecked. If you ward properly and don't let him snowball from his early power spikes he gains, he continues desperately trying to be relevant. He doesn't have Tremor Sense, Free Health, or any powerful team fighting potential. He wants to get in, get out, and (hopefully) make a few gold with a kill in doing so. He doesn't do well trading 1 for 1 with most champions, as they tend to outscale him very hard. A 10/10/0 Caitlyn (or any ADC) hurts a lot more than a 10/10/0 Lee Sin ever will. He also puts himself farther behind doing this losing out on massive amount of XP/Gold from farming.

People are free to pick whatever champion suits their fancy--its their prerogative--but I really don't appreciate the number of people who play Lee Sin because of the notion that he is automatic OP Freelos, at least not without understanding how he works. A lot of Lee Sins I see just sit in jungle and farm for 90% of the game instead of actively trying to bully people and get their snowball on, and never gank before lv.4 or lv.5. A lot of them use the same cookie-cutter Mobafire build instead of capitzlizing on all the nifty items AD champs can currently itemize and often end up screwing themselves out of a snowball in the first place, too. Pretty annoying!

Low ELO scrub here, also hates Lee Sin. http://kingofwallpapers.com/sheep/sheep-004.jpg Anyways, the main reason I hate Lee Sin is mostly just my opinion. It isn't really to do with his winrate or the whole "Ugh he's good in every meta" thing people like to say, but just that it feels fairly annoying to have to go against him in-game.

Yaśuo Main1 votes

Either because his kit makes you annoyed or you somehow annoy yourself by pretending you don't like him?

Win rate isn't the only stat you should be looking at. Lee is currently at about a 42% play rate(champion.gg) and there's bound to be some shitty lee players.

Mister Support1 votes

You realize a higher playrate makes a larger sample size so his win rate will be far more accurate than champions with lower playrates.

deadlychuck1 votes

You also recognize that a higher play rate also causes a natural drop in champion win rate, as a result of the average player having more experience playing against the champion, than the lee sin player has playing as the champion.

Mister Support1 votes

And this means players are understanding the counterplay to the champion and bringing him to his well-deserved win rate.

or higher rates of targeted counter picking.

Bladeglory1 votes

I can't even fathom why so many of us low ELO players complain about him other than blind (heh) circlejerking.

Confirmation Bias. When you find a Lee who flubs his ward jump, you internally call him trash and hope you fight more like him. On to the next fight.

When you face a decent Lee and still wind up winning, you breathe a sigh of relief that you pulled it off. On to the next game.

But when you get 100-0'd by the Lee who really knows what he's doing, who then pops off into the Jungle scot-free until he wants to make you cry again, you're salty about it for the next week.

We humans forget the common occurrences and hold on to the extraordinary experiences we have. Especially if it's negative. It's pretty much how we got Lee Syndrome and the "Our champ, Their champ" memes.

hhaavviikk1 votes

still doesn't change the fact that it's frustrating seeing lee sin every game and have him be top pick ever since his release, variety isn't a bad thing

Sire Hippington1 votes

Pretty easy: His early is bullshit even in low elos, it's just that his teamfights are what's hard to play and that low elo games have a higher average gametime, so lee often actually does fall off. This doesn't changes anything about his oprresive early ganks and dueling, and that's why he's complained about.

RisenDarkKnight1 votes

According to Champion.gg Lee Sin is the best overall jungler in Gold, Silver, and he's the second best jungler in Bronze. I have no idea wtf you think you're talking about.

Look at overall performance ranking, not winrate. Even in bronze, his winrate is over 50% anyway.

Divewing1 votes

Because he's a scummy piece of shit to play against.

Numbers be damned, no one will ever look at lee, Yasuo, Fizz etc and think: "golly, those champions are fun to play against". No, people would rather drink nuclear waste and stitch their eyes shut.

Asides from being intentionally kneecapped to the point of borderline unplayable or reworked, this anger will never be sated.
