Ryze.

I played Ryze twice on the PBE before he was released.

My gosh, he felt terrible to play as.

I played him once on live. Still no good.

He felt weak as hell.

Well over a month later, his popularity has plummeted lower than Season 4 Urgot with comparable win-rates.

Can we actually do something to strengthen him up a bit? I miss playing Ryze :(

I'd rather have a binary playstyle than a flat-out DEAD one.

I outlined a couple things in another post, but the prevailing problems I see aren't a result of bad numbers, but the double nerf on Q.

Q is a skillshot. Cool. I don't care. That's a nerf from a point and click, sure, and I don't mind since it DOES allow for counterplay. On the other hand, his Q NOT going through minions effectively nerfs his Q even further. Now not only does he have to aim his ability, but he has to navigate it around creeps as well.

I'm no balance expert, but I really really want to start a discussion on what could be done/what is in the works at present for our lovely, handsome purple dude.

Q purposefully doesn't go through minions because it would step on the toes of E.

In lane there are two options, max Q first or max E first. E does a lot of damage when people are in their minions (i.e. cannot be hit by Q) but E does pathetic damage if the target is isolated.

The problem with this is it leaves you really vulnerable regardless of what you max first. You max Q? well good luck getting past creeps and harassing. Maxing E? You have no defense against an all in and don't have much of an all in yourself (unless there are minions nearby)

Add to the fact that the E radius is pretty small and Q's mana scaling isn't flat, it just makes the problem worse.

They should keep the rank 5 mana scaling across all levels of Q, or make the radius of E slightly larger.

Q isn't just nerfed, it got a much longer range now, meaning you can farm much more safely. And once your shield is up, you can go in. Which becomes easier next patch with the longer duration at early levels.

Ah, I didn't see the PBE patch where they increased the duration. That may very well help a ton. I'll be patient and try him after the patch :)

He is brokenly OP on PBE. He will 100-0 anyone starting at level 3 now.

To do that he needs to get in range, find an opening in the minion wave, consistently land his Qs, not get CC'd, and also not run out of mana. That last one is a biggie at early levels.

IDK what Ryze's people have been against, but I have yet to see a Ryze NOT 100-0 burst me late game. People are just not willing to get used to the new mechanics. And if you want spellvamp, get spirit visage and hextech gunblade. With ult passive, visage will give you 40% cdr and since WOTA and Gunblade have the same AP and Spellvamp, getting hextech gunblade only benefits you. Literally the only thing Gunblade doesn't give that WOTA does give is CDR, which is useless when you're at 40% already.

He is solid late game, but his laning is horrible. PBE changes should help some, but it's hard to say how much. I wish RIOT would do a Q/A when they do champ reworks. The only red post about Ryze since his rework was basically "Yeah, we think he might be fine even though he has the lowest win rate in the game, we'll wait and see."

I don't like the new Ryze Q. I was just in a game and during team fights, what would normally be easy kills were blocked by the enemy team. Who ever thought of this skill shot idea on Ryze is an idiot.

They have said they are looking at him. They want to avoid over-buffing, so they're giving it some time. A respectable approach, in my opinion.

So they just buff him so much that he can use Rune Prison 4 times in a row... " Not OverPower"
