Ignite is taken on high elo supports almost 70% of the time

Riot always seems to have a problem with it when one summoner spell is mandatory on top or mid, but why is it that for years supports were forced to take exhaust every game, and this season supports take either ignite or exhaust in 83.6% of the time?

I'm sure with all the damage in the game ADC mains in particular don't like going up against a fucking ignite every single game, as well. The amount of kill pressure that the current bot lane meta has had for the lion's share of the season is obnoxious.

Ignite is literally taken on half the champions in every game

Lets gut TP and heal

They said they didn't want exhaust to be a counter to ignite, so they put a gap between their cooldowns allowing ignite to be used more than exhaust.

Just keep telling them you don't want more damage. They seem to be getting the hint. What they're doing in the grant scheme here is dramatically increasing all sources of damage first, and then they'll balance max health and defenses around that a couple seasons down the road.

It's a huge project and you need to respect the time they need to get the job done.

(23 hours later you know the worst part of this post is that not a single person looked into what I delivered as fact. Exh and Ignite both have the same cooldown.)

Didn't they already dramatically increase all sources of damage? The game has basically turned into Call of Duty after Season 4.

And Season 8, you think they'll start changing anything now??

After Season 5* Hard to ignore one of the only tank metas ever, as well as the Juggernaut patch and subsequent Juggernaut meta for the only time in history until the next few patches nerfed them to shit.

rtbf2256182411 votes

Season 5 was the turning point so no, it's after Season 4. The Juggernauts barely had anything to do with the overall damage of the game. They were just a few busted champions on rework.

Yets42401 votes

What you said is claiming that Season 5 was "basically Call of Duty" when it was almost twenty patches of the only tank meta in 5 years, followed by the tankiest damage class being the strongest damage dealers. The TTK in Season 5 was the longest of any season since Season 2. Your claim is blatantly false. It started after Season 5.

rtbf2256182411 votes

What? Season 5 was full of tanks doing juggernaut-levels of damage. That is why the Juggernaut class was separated from them in the first place. Towards the end of S5, they revamped the classification system entirely because champion affiliations became too confusing and generalizing.

And in case you don't remember, they reworked the jungle again and fucked with Guinsoo's for god knows how long until we got to the state we're in now. S5 didn't ruin the game by no means. It was one of the best states of the game in a long time pre-juggernaut patch but it sure as hell started the damage-amp.

There's a hidden /s in there btw.

Basically exhaust hard countered melees way too hard. This routine was coming sooner or later.

Except exhaust can't counter ignite because you can't reduce true damage.

TotalJerk5 votes

Exhaust blatantly isn't a counter to ignite, though. You can't reduce true damage.

It’s hard to read this post from all the sarcasm spilling into my eyes.

I like it.

Man I'm low elo and I'm seeing Ignite even on the defensive supports like Janna Soraka Lulu Sona

y0r1ck3 votes

They were using ignite even before the buffs.

SennaFirstPick3 votes

tbh ignite on sona and lulu is pretty common and overall better than exhaist

Never needed ignite to stomp with my lulu.

SennaFirstPick1 votes

because lulu on its own can really shutdown the enemy support.

but most of the time you're playing lulu with champs that have low to no kill pressure early,

ignite also helps you if you can pull of a level 2 cheese.

i play support competively and i believe that the times you should take exhaust over ignite are really scarse

Ignite even on the defensive supports like

Lulu and Soraka are pretty good lane bullies ngl, you just don't see it as much cause low elo supports (tbh every support till high diamond) plays so damn passive.

This is not true at ALL. Maybe so in NA, but in EUW you have people who know how to use their champion well, like me. I main Lulu, and I know she bullies easily, but it's not like a Leona where I can just engage with ease, and even so id have to mind about enemy picks, and im low elo. Soraka players at my elo constantly poke, Alistars in my elo easily disengage, Bard players poke like mad (I've lost twice to Bards because I tried to challenge them early game.)

Well, as someone once said

'The most effective form of CC is death.'

CrestfallenNight2 votes

I'll never let go of Exhaust.

Daedric Etwahl1 votes

Same. Sure Ignite is super useful for winning the game but so many, many times I've been able to completely shut down the enemy diver/assassin/skirmisher in a lategame fight. Ignite isn't going to do anything in those cases, and the survivability of myself and my carry is important to me

With how early games end you want to make an impact as early as you can, that’s pretty much it.

Even I found myself taking ignite over exhaust because of how much value it has now after the buffs and how much early impact it gives.

Malix Farwin1 votes

They probably buffed it in the first place to promote more interactive lanes because i guess the LCS was getting too boring with everyone taking healing and afk farming.

Sp33d Zer01 votes

If games go late Exhaust is taken more often because SURPRISE! in a late game fight Exhaust is super beneficial.

If games end early, why take a summoner spell that is focused on survival of key members when you can take ignite and end it early?

Craktite1 votes

Ignite got buffed, Exhaust got hard nerfed.

That exhaust nerf was needed.

The ignite buff was not needed.

Nah.

Since when bronze or below players in normals are high elo?

IceAYon1 votes

Since the dmg fiesta meta came around and it happens everywhere from low to high to LCS. Since there are the same, let's clump them together since it doesn't take much.

Can you read? The link I provided is platinum ranked and above.

Yes, but I think you don't, couse you've understand nothing of my comment. Read it again couse I don't want to answer such a stupid question

Make barrier great again for ADC's. It let them do more crazy 1vX outplays when it was the go-to summoner. Also it counters ignite.
