And I gotta say as a Malzahar main, it was an utterly meaningless nerf that changed absolutely nothing about his power level.

TLDR: Malzahar is still very strong in solo queue.

I don't recall lux being able to silence an entire team for three seconds or be able to 1v1 almost anyone in the game but okay

Malz needs to be able to land the Q and W to be able to 1v1 anyone. It's not exactly a cake walk.

Not saying that at all. I'm saying that Lux can't potentially silence an entire team or duel most people with relative ease.
