How do support players even play this game

Nomad Sol··3 votes·810 views

It's so mind numbing to just be a item 3107 item 3190 bot. How have none of you complained just how braindead Meddler has turned the role? There are no outplays or interactions, it's become just stack as many shields as possible in an AoE and then whatever.

If you honestly think that's all the role is for then you need to move to a different game. Supports are one of the most important roles because we're the ones that keep the carries protected, your feeding ass alive, and (with the correct champions) setup more plays than any other roles for teamfight victories.

Just because we don't 100-0 the enemy team with mindless face rolling the keyboard doesn't make us worthless by any means.

Coming from a former Support main, support / botlane in generally is just ass. Mainly due to the fact that no matter how good you are, no matter how skilled you are at your champion, you can't account for the dipshit in the lane next to you. If they aren't at least decent at the role, then it turns into a 1v2, unlike in top or mid. The role just feels so boring and pointless. I mean here and there you get amazing Thresh hooks that turn around a team fight or a clutch Leona ult, but that's (at least in my experience of 2 seasons) once in a blue moon. Most of the time unless you're a Vel'koz or Zyra support (which is much better than a regular support might I add) you're a boring cc bot that gets fucked in the ass after blowing their cc.

A good support will be able to minimize the punishment your adc receives when they mess up. And while vel and zyra are good poke supports, they aren't very good peelers for any of the carries on your team... unless you're the guy playing a carry support so you don't actually have to support

Ant Eater king1 votes

I understand that, but my point is you shouldn't have to worry about whether or not the other guy is an idiot or not. The reason why I believe playing people like Vel, Annie and Zyra are important for support is because in solo que, unless you're duoing with someone who you KNOW is competent as a carry, you should focus as hard as you can on carrying the game and not letting your teammates shoulder the burden. SQ is way different from pro play in that while the pros can communicate and work as a team, where everyone has their separate duties and goals, in SQ it's just 5 idiots running around with no coordination. If you want to climb efficiently, you HAVE to carry hard enough to make up for the dead weight, and you just can't do that as a Thresh or a Janna.

The Fuzzy 0ne2 votes

i disagree... playing taric, thresh, etc i climbed b5 to g5 last season and so far s5 to g5 this season without too much trouble and with the mindset to save my teammates from themselves. Seems to be working so far

ChaddyFantome2 votes

I actually climbed to g5 playing support/mid, dropping mid mostly late into my climb once i hit silver. Only reason people think it is impossible is most people can't support for shit.

When your lane partner is eating crayons, that's when you abandon the lane and go help other parts of the map. I've done this several times in matches and it ended up working out great because I was able to get my mid and/or top laner the kills they needed while being relatively nearby my jungler so if they needed assistance I'd be able to help. The reason you're a "former" support main is because you lost the ability to adapt to the match, to see what you need to do to help the team in the correct manner than stay in a sunk lane.

I'm not saying ditch the ADC if they've died a few times, I'm saying leave the lane after your tower is nearly dead and your ADC is behind. Both of those need to come into play before you decide to stay away, otherwise you condemn your team to a 4v5 when it could have been a 5v5 if you stayed that little bit longer. Understanding the timing is key.

The Fuzzy 0ne3 votes

How doesn't it have baring? They're explaining why they think it's not a "braindead role" where "There are no outplays or interactions" as you said

Shuyin1783 votes

This dude gets it.

It's funny when you can't read but try to defend him anyways

The Fuzzy 0ne3 votes

And instead of explaining why you think we're not understanding you insult our intelligence and prove that you actually have no idea what you're talking about. I'm defending him because he presented an opinion and argument that is logical and makes sense and instead of debating or explaining your view further you can only sit there and say that we can't read lol

If you think there are no outplays or interactions, then you don't understand the role's purpose at all.

reading is hard for you kids isn't it

Crowd Control, Peeling, Zoning, Counter Warding, Warding, Map Awareness is more of priority (scout basically), Quick plays, Initiating, Tanking, saving people that are typically dead otherwise, typically (not always) no kill potential, setting up kills, less gold than all roles, jungle warding (assuming jungle doesn't know how to ward), unable to push lanes typically, even less able to push lanes late game, can't carry stupid (Oh he's snared? Let's run instead of kill), so easy Phreak said it's the slowest role to grind up in rank, etc.

Yes, easy. Most definitely.

Your thread gives me cancer.

He never said it was easy you sperg.

Clearly you don't understand sarcasm and can't read what I said.

DarkRitual3 votes

Reading what? You whole post boils down to "There are no outplays or interactions, it's become just stack as many shields as possible in an AoE and then whatever." I apologize for assuming this means you think the only thing supports have to think or worry about is effective shielding.

Making solid arguments that aren't completely basless is hard for you kid, isn't it?

Nomad Sol1 votes

kids getting carried by redemption/locket are so mad right now, how mad are you?

DarkRitual2 votes

Not at all, since I actually understand the role and how wrong your assumptions have been for the entire thread.

Have a nice day. [slayer-jinx-catface]

idk about you but i play Nautilus with item 3001 item 3193 item 3401 item 2045 item 3047 item 3143

Reaper Soraka3 votes

We've kinda been complaining about that for a while now. If you're ok or ahead you have locket/redemption. If you're behind you don't have locket/redemption.

From the sounds of a recent pbe patch quote.. they want to make these item actives scale off more items. I really don't know what to think about that because I didn't want to rely on these items to be effective in the first place.

I feel like the conversation went something like: Me: Hey...I don't like relying on items so hard. Riot: Ok. Riot: So we'll make these items scale off other items. Me: No....I don't like requiring these items in the first place. Riot: Ok. We'll test it out.

You set up vision and make plays. Builds have very little relevance when it comes to that.

play brand support. problem solved.

Hallbuster1 votes

Support is not only the role that has the least use but also the most blame. Never playing this role unless I used all my dodges or I can't afford to waste any more time.

ChaddyFantome2 votes

Support is actually the 2nd best role to carry with this season if you are in high silver and above imo.

why i moved away from support 101. 0 item diversity

The Fuzzy 0ne2 votes

it was worse before they nerfed redemption tbh. And with the changes coming to support items, it looks like that will be changing :)

The reasons why I ended up moving more and more away from being a support main is because of how little things you can do as a sup. Sure you can carry as a sup but when your team is so behind that they can't even afford to burst down the enemy carry you caught alone, it's not easy

Oh no! You have a core item and then two other strong options! Muh diversity!
