Bladed Capes and Tormented Icefists

So Blade of the Ruined King and Liandry's Torment were items, still are, designed to help deal with tanks and bruisers whenever they get a little out of hand. And then there is Sunfire Cape and Iceborne Gauntlets which may be dealing a little too much damage for being tank items. So you have the items that are meant to deal with tanks getting nerfed a bit with these damage tank items getting buffed quite a bit; and these tanks items are brought up because when almost anyone can build these two items and still not a significant amount of damage for it then there must be something wrong here.

Sunfire Cape: None numerical balancing would be lower the damage to champions and then increase the damage to minions to emphasize its role to help tanks clear waves and tone back a tank and bruiser damage against squishies.

Example: 20-38 magic damage per second from 25-43; minions takes 100% increased damage from 50%.

Iceborne Gauntlet: None numerical balancing would be tone back the damage the sheen effect does making the item more about its defense and utility than a damage output. If this would need a follow up buff to something else on it then it can be assessed in a patch or two in the future.

Example: 100% base AD down from 125% base AD [Sheen is 100% base AD].

Blade of the Ruined King: None numerical balancing would be increase the passive damage slightly just to help the item deal with tanks better and the passive is mainly only good for marksmen which are meant to kill tanks.

Example: 7% current health on-hit from 6% current health on-hit as physical damage.

Liandry's Torment: None numerical balancing, and this one is under the premise that Will of the Ancients is being removed, add a new passive that makes the damage from Liandry's Torment heal you allowing mages to survive against the brutal onslaught of tanks and bruisers without having a Vladimir only item since the damage is a burn that plays around cooldowns on mages better (also makes the item a little like Blade of the Ruined King since it has life steal). This mechanic also restricts healing from minions since the heal would be a % health burn against low health targets.

Example: 50% of the damage dealt from this item heals you [based on what the item deals people, not all the champion's damage].

Sunfire cape and Iceborn gauntlet weren't really even problems before. What makes them so strong is that champions with high base damages, lots of cc to stick + ibg slow, and percent health damage on abilities are now building it. Nerf the champs not the items. Because if you nerf the items then the same champions are gonna find something else to abuse.

Until Riot buffed them multiple times, and there will be needed champions nerfs too. But we do the simpler approach first and then do the follow up nerfs of the OP champions; Sunfire Cape will be moved towards better for tanks with better minion damage and Gauntlet can receive a follow up buff in the future to something else, but the damage needs to be taken down a little bit in the meantime.

If anything the damage numbers on ibg went down since it grants no ap.

I like that Liandry's and Iceborn idea. The other two I'm not too sure about though. I feel like Sunfire wouldn't be a problem if Iceborn didn't have as much utility, but it is pretty hard to balance these items without screwing everybody over and reducing your freedom to buy situational items efficiently.

Iceborne should have its utility, its damage should be down to remove the jack of all trades (it also makes Frozen Mallet more tempting to buy with a slightly weaker Gauntlet) but sunfire and iceborne are two paired up items I consistently see on this tank meta so they must be having some kind of balancing issues then; so keep the stats but lower their champion damage is a good trade off to keep tanks around but have them deal slightly less damage (tanks should be disruptive beef cakes and not also killing everyone too).

I think have a heal from a burn fixes the whole spell vamp viable on only a few champions thing and fixes infinite sustain from minions since a % damage value; plus makes it more similar to Blade's power. Because I think mages should have MANA and HEALTH sustain items, and health sustain is very important for a mage can beat up on tanks otherwise tanks just out-stat a mage.

In my opinion Sunfire and Iceborn are only currently a problem together, and alone they are not. If nerfing one fixes both I would hope the one that is more problematic on it's own gets the nerf.

That is why I have only a nerf for Gauntlet, Sunfire is getting a buff to its utility. And then some buffs to Liandry's and Blade

Do not forget there can always be follow ups later, nothing has to stay the same forever

damage from torment heals you

Teemo? When did you become a drain tank?

Stacona1 votes

You are over estimating how much it heals for, also Liandry's only applies to blind and shrooms

and why wouldn't it apply to his E?

Esp if he builds a rylais
