How to beat Illaoi by a Bronzie for a Bronzie.....Illaoi is not broken.

FioraWillCarry··5 votes·1,677 views

Here is a replay where I went 4-0 vs Illaoi as Irelia.

In the short time I've been here, I've gotten the impression that most of the "this is OP" complaints come from people at my ELO. Hell, even I made a thread to complain about Garen. I see a lot of people complaining about how OP Illaoi is and I'm sure you can find countless videos in YouTube where people stomp her but usually those are high ELO games. Its easy to rationalize, "oh well those guys are diamond"

Well here we are, Illaoi can be countered, even in Bronze. So please, stop complaining before the powers decide to pay attention and nerf her into worthlessness. Illaoi is fine how she is. She needs that damage to compete. If they nerf that then she's gonna be truly worthless.

Note: You can watch up to when I get 4 kills on her, the laning phase ends shortly after. I doubt you'd want to watch the rest because after all its a Bronze game. I just wanted to show that Illaoi is not hard to counter in low ELO.

Beating a champion in bronze by a bronze is not what dictates balance.

Beating a champion in challenger by a challenger is, since you are then not limited by mechanical mistakes and it's only the kit that matters.

maybe plat+ but challenger is not only the smallest pooling size but also the most inconsistant

Its exactly the same thing because its about relative skill difference. Bronze vs Bronze and Challenger vs Challenger has the exact same skill difference....0

What inspired this was reading somewhere(can't remember if its here or reddit) that it takes a more skilled player to beat a less skilled player playing Illaoi because of how imbalanced she is. I think the prevailing idea is that to beat the average Illaoi you have to possess Diamond level mechanics or at least have much higher mechanical aptitude than your opponent. I'm simply saying this is false with proof to boot.

in bronze you are limited by mechanical skill, meaning that it is more likely that you will win due to pure luck or because your opponent is bad.

in challenger, even though the relative skill gap is the same, the TYPE of mistakes are different. No longer will it be about mechanical limitations but rather about judgment alone.

by that logic, your opponent is also limited by mechanical skill as well, what exact is your point? In challenger the type of mistakes are different but again the sane type of mistakes you are making are the same types your opponents are making as well, again what is your point?

not all champions have the same skill floor.

no no no no. The luck aspect of bronze is whether your team will feed or not.

Think about Azir for a second. Shitty in most cases in bronze, godly in challenger. Same idea for Illaoi, although she isn't as hard. Her damage is far too insane and has little counterplay; a juggernaut shouldn't have ranged poke, a mobility spell, or creature-spawning.

I'm Bronze and I main Azir and even I agreed he needed nerfs. I rather they hadn't nerfed him sure, but that's just me being selfish. Azir is downright oppressive in anyone's hands once you take the time to learn him.

The Taco Kat1 votes

What I mean is, his strengths were really high, although it was hard to utilize them. Illaoi has high strengths for a juggernaut; they are meant to be immobile, not have a 2 second dash.

I don't want to get a virus is there any other way you can show the video?

lol its not a virus. Its a batch file that finds LoL and runs it in spectator mode. It does more or less the same thing that happens when press spectate in the game client.

This is what the file contains:-

You can see for yourself that there is nothing there that interferes with anything. It doesn't download anything. It doesn't delete anything. The majority of that code is about finding where LoL is located.

I'm unranked and I've dodged her tentacles as Sion.

It's not hard.

FioraWillCarry1 votes

Yea, there are people that know how to counter her but the amount of complaining about her here worries me that they might nerf her because of it. It seems that there are far more people unable to counter her than there are willing to try and learn how.

I like her the way she is and have no problems with playing against her.

all this retarded talk about "mechanical skill" and such... ;D

the main point here is that you won against THIS illaoi in THIS game but would you beat all illaois on your level or even just this player in 10 more games straight?

you won against her but why? what are the exact reasons you won? you can watch your game and see for yourself. why did she ever die to you in laning phase? could she have prevented that if she played differently? could she for example have pushed in the waves until she gets her crucial levels or could she kited your hiten style or could she done her combo better?

did she play illaoi perfectly and you still won? if yes, you can "counter" her. if no, the next player you play against might do something a little bit differently and crush you hard.

The point is not about all the what ifs...the point is that she can be beaten. People here and in games act as if its impossible to ever crush her in lane. It is possible and you don't have to be Diamond to do it. If she were truly OP then it wouldn't matter how badly she played, she would not have fed so much, she'd have been the one that got fed.

AyRe CoNteMpT1 votes

everyone can be beaten if they walk into your tower at lvl 1 and proceed to give you 5 kills in a row. is that a scenario you want to rely on?

balance means the following: if two players use their champions strength optimally, will they come out even or will one champion prevail over the other?

a champion is frustrating/badly designed when: even tho he is balanced, his playstyle is much more simple/straight forward/forgiving than what you would have to do to beat him so players who make alot of mistakes will have better results with these champions because its either simple (naturally make less mistakes) or forgiving (mistakes dont matter that much).

this has nothing to do with imbalance but just with design flaws.

i personally cant say too much about illaoi because i havent played her ever and i havent played against her too many times and in every game i played against her, she super sucked and was beaten easy. so from my personal experience, i have no bad feelings towards illaoi.

when i look at her kit tho, i see that she clearly has only one single thing she can possibly do, and that is lanecontrol. this is a mechanic that is pretty hard to imbalance/point out as imbalanced as of how few players in the entire world actually know what lanecontrol is and can do it.

you see, my main point about all of this is not about illaoi but about players talking about balance. you are not a good player, you are not a good analyst, you are not a good strategist and you are not a good designer. that is all natural because only few people are one of these things and even fewer are multiple, so its logical that the fewest people understand the concept of balance or how to play strategy games.

but everyone likes to think they should have an oppinion about everything, even if they dont understand anything about it. i just want to give you the chance to understand that everything everyone has ever said about illaois balance has the same value as what you have said about her: absolutely none.

Most of the treads aren't so much how OP Illaoi is, it's that her kit isn't fun to play against for a few reasons:

  1. Her E is completely unfun when you get vessel'd, and Illaoi isn't punished a lot by missing her E so she can spam it until it hits.
  2. Her Q hitbox is larger than the animation, so that if you dodge just outside the line of the animation, it still hits you.
  3. Her tentacles heal her quite a great deal when they strike you. Darius' Q was nerfed because he was healing way too much in a teamfight; Illaoi is doing much the same with her ult.

Once these are fixed, she'll be in a good place.
