Easy way to tell some is ignorant about Elo/MMR.

They cite gameplay as proof of an mm issue.

"Feeders, one sided, snowball, trash top, garbage add, jungle diff," not a single one of those terms has any relation to the mathematics behind Elo or it's derevitives. Its like some one screaming at a mechanic they want their car to have a quicker 0 to 60 so they demand he replaces the break system with better breaks. A basic understanding of a car is all you need to know to point out that upgrading breaks will not enhance acceleration.

If folks truly want to discuss MMR and what riot can do for improvements you should see terms like " probability, curve, distribution, class interval, K factor, system expectations, avarage,Range."

RN=Ro+K(W-We) if you cant read that as english please wiki Arpad Elo.

I mean majority of things said by the player base are usually ignorant because theyre centered around their own selfish desires and wants, but arguing with them always turns into a witch hunt of the guy calling them out as "toxic"

"A chat bot, hidden moderator, undercover red" all are things people have accused me of because i did the unfathomable and complicated step of googling a topic and studying it.

Then they get mad that I won't listen to them about how breaks impact the speed of a car because they are what makes a car slow down so thus clearly better breaks slow a car less which makes it faster. Again don't need much more the a basic understanding on a car to see the Issue with that view. Basically I don't care how strongly someone defends it, if they think 4+4=44 they are wrong.

like in all reality how do the player base as a whole expect their mindsets of what balanced is to them to be fulfilled by riot?

riot cant take into account the defected areas of every individual player into account to balance an item/ map(objectives) /champs.

not saying people cant have an insight and feel/see what might be out of balanced but we are all bias to a point based on our own individual skill , play style, champ pool/role

and with so many variables there is no way we are well enough versed into it as people of the highest elos/ pro players. they tend to get to that high elo or become a professional player based on the ability to learn and adapt to all of that and even then some of their own pitfalls of game knowledge can be their own undoing.

also elo/rank (IMO ) is their for RIOT to balanced match making to have a game that feels rewarding and fair to play by putting people of similar skill levels together. not necessarily to be a competitive ladder to climb to boast how great you are.

such as people in lower elos bronze/silver would not enjoy playing vs high elos plat/dia+ all the time cuz they would find it frustrating and would quit playing. and those higher elo players after a few games of having fun pub stomping lower players would get board cuz of no challenge and feeling of reward of winning a fair game against people of their skill level.

Yup. Well I look forward too all the anonymous downvotes this is going to generate.

plus the climb of the make believe ladder for this "competitive game" is just literally riot leading along the donkeys by a carrot

similar mind stuff casinos use to keep you playing their games , make it feel challenging/ yet rewarding so you stay longer , play longer and pay more over time.

So win rates don’t mean anything. Ban rates don’t mean anything Pick rates don’t mean anything And gameplay doesn’t mean anything.

Soooooo HOW ARE WE SUPPOSE TO JUDGE ANYTHING

The same way Elo and MMR do. WR with context of # games and individuals WR at various parts of the curve. Also checking the top and bottom ends of the curve and comparision to the established middle.

Not complicated.

They matter for balance, they just don’t matter for matchmaking. MMR matters for matchmaking. Winrates/pickrates/banrates matter for game balance and design. Simple enough.

Wait im confuse, how is citing the state of the game translates into the player not understanding elo/mmr? Its not like they arnt wrong, they are stating whats in front of them. Pointing out that someone is snowballing out of control doesnt mean you dont understand mmr or elo, where is this coming from, how is this related?

As muchas i hate when people say better junglers win, if they are right and they are right lol. If the enemy junlger is making a huge impact to making his or her team win and your junlger isnt doing much well, its just a fact. Obviously its going to be base on situation and for all you know its actually the laners fault. For example, junlger points out where the enemy jungler is and pings you to back but you dont listne and your bot lane ends up getting ganked, dies and enemy takes dragon obj after.

The point is, i dont understand how your correlating players to be ignorant about elo and mmr, base on what they say about the status of the game. Lot of players in both high and low elos understand when someone is snowballing, inting, feeding, roaming, ganking, etc... the differences between the two might be what they do with that information.

There is nothing in elo or mmr that takes any stats from gameplay that controls direction or placement on ladder, other then the end result of a match. Thats why Elo style systems can be used for any game of skill and has been adapted to use for things like the dateing algorithms for online matchmaking sites, why zuckerberg used it to make facematch which later turned into Facebook. The math is all about probability and averages.

Gameplay issues are gameplay issues. Targeting the MM is a scapegoat for personal Performance or a totally justified frustration thats mistargeted to the wrong area.
