Counterplay? WTF IS COUNTERPLAY!? OH GOD DODGE THE THINGS
Counterplay, counter play, Shyvana lacks counter play, Master Yi lacks counter play, Fiora lacks it, and Warwick lacks it.
Wait wait...why though? TO answer why, you need to know what is counterplay.
What is counterplay? Well, to put it in simple terms, it would be playing rock against scissors, or scissors against paper. Counterplay is anything a player does, to prevent, or reduce the abilities of an enemy player.
For example, one way of countering a champion such as Xerath?

The problem comes, however, when dodging becomes the only form of counterplay the community considers as valid. No seriously, let's think about it.
EXAMPLE TIME! One of the worst champions in terms of gameplay, Warwick.
What is one of the largest complaints you hear about him? "OMFG HIS ULT IS SO OP! IT SUPPRESSES ME AND I CANNOT DO ANYTHING! HE LACKS COUNTERPLAY!"
Well...no...let us consider a few things.
The range on Warwick's ult is 700 range. Stay out of range.
That is counterplay, because Warwick is a melee champ whose only ranged ability is his suppression. By respecting the range on his ult, you invalidate him.
An alternative? Have another champion present who can CC Warwick when he blinks you. Why is this effective? His ultimate is a CHANNEL. The damage needs time to go through in order for it to be effective.
This...is also counterplay.
Counterplay doesn't mean playing a great game of dodgeball.
Are people wrong for thinking it should be? Yes. People need to be more open minded regarding the game and not believe they always need to have a chance to "dodge" any ability in the game.
Is it natural for them to think this way? Yes.
Human beings are largely affected by what they can see. Being able to see the Xerath laser beam?
It makes the counterplay more apparent than Yi rushing in and slicing you up to pieces.

Is not the only form of counterplay.
Sometimes....
is counterplay to a champion.
