Thornmail a decent counter to Lethality meta?

So lately in my games I've been seeing teams run 3 or even 4 AD champions that all build Lethality items. I typically like to play Divers and Vanguards and it seems like they could still shred through me pretty fast. A couple games back I tried going Thornmail 3rd or 4th item and it worked amazingly well. Those champions had an insanely hard time cutting through me and since people rarely build life steal when going the for a Lethality build I actually did a surprising amount of damage to them as well. Has anyone else tried this and had similar success?

well yea its useful... in my opinion its better on ap tank champs like Amumu Malphite Maokai Nautilus Nunu due all of them using either item 1401 item 3068 and typically can use some magic pen which makes the damage returned better and stack with the aoe damage of item 3751

I guess I didn't explain my point well. All I hear is people saying how bad Thornmail is compared to the other armor items. Pretty much no one builds it. However, in a meta where people build a lot of Lethality and not a lot of life steal I think that increases the value of Thornmail by a ton and makes it a much more viable item.

well yea.. but its never a must have item , its always situational

typically it best in a game vs 2 or more ad auto attack reliant champs

and its better with other items that stack armor and hp because the passive of it that does damage scales with the more armor you have

Well it is a must on Rammus. Honestly if you wanted to run it on someone like Shen I'd say more power to you as well.

It will probably be getting some changes in the upcoming "Vanguard Update" along with I think, NEW tank items like how they introduced new Mage and Assassin items in their respective updates.

The more armor you have, the worse enemy lethality is per point.

Side note, does anyone know how lethality+last whisper is calculated now?

Last whisper first then lethality iirc. If your team has a black cleaver, then that first since that's armor reduction, not penetration

Okay, figured as much, thank you
