It depends on what support ur using. if your using mage supports who poke a lot aim for her auto attack animation. Of all adc's kalista's auto attack animation is the slowest, especially at early levels. If she tries to last hit a minion punish her for it, with no boots at lvl 1 her passive does shit.
also because of her slow attack animation it is incredibly difficult to last hit with kalista. even her w and e helping her last hit, if you push to her tower then unless your facing a god adc she'll have much less cs then your adc. If you do this ward the river and watch out for ganks so as not to feed her kills to replace the cs she lost.
another thing to note is that kalista has low damage potential for an adc. her rend depends on constantly attacking and can be countered by , guess what, focusing on the adc.
if your a melee fighter with no gap closer don't bother going for her unless someone on ur team just cc'd her. It's wasted time. The biggest threat to kalista is whoever u have in mid lane and strangely enough your adc. her passive doesn't do much against someone who attacks from range, in fact it hurts her when facing any of her counterparts. using her passive actually slows down her attack rate therefore in any extended matchup between adcs kallista will often lose. I've even seen a fed kalista lose a 1v1 with a half fed ashe.
