No one plays AP utility sups because they really only have 3 item slots to buy AP utility items

Sightstone and Coin are practically must grabs for AP utility supports, getting no AP off these items to help them do THEIR JOB Frost Queens sucks ass that it's common knowledge that you swap it out for coin later on, not unlike Frost Queens gives a pathetic amount of AP anyway...

An what kind of AP can you get with those 3 slots? ...fuck all if you actually build AP utility items

AP utility supports are just a mess right now, with Riot putting little attention into that fact it really sucks

Well if they put too much AP on utility items then mid laners will start to use it.

Hence the reason Lulu abandoned the bot lane for a solo lane. To get the gold needed to actually build ap, and be an impactful support to the game.

Except Lulu bot support is still very good. Polymorph is very strong as a disengage tool, shield is excellent for poke and defense, and her Q does good damage. I've seen Lulu support still get plenty of gold to be able to purchase AP items on multiple occasions.

The bigger reason Lulu went other lanes is similar to Solo Lane Soraka: Very safe, pretty good damage, and excellent utility. A good solo Lulu is pretty hard to threaten.

That's my point Solo lane Lulu w/ Tank support> Solo laner /Lulu support. Support lulu doesn't get the gold required to be safe AND impactful. You have to decide to go offensive or defensive and that's about it. Yes there will be games where people fed incredibley bad and support lulu is equal to a regular solo laner, but this isn't normal.

Mejais, Rabbadons, and a third 100 AP item like Ludens + Sorc potion = ~600 AP. That's a pretty reasonable amount. The catch is, that the game will be over long before you get anywhere near finishing those items.

um who says you have to build any particular items in any role? I've stopped getting sightstone in most cases simply because the upgraded trinket works just about as well and in some cases better. It's not one persons job to ward the entire map and it's not even possible. If laners can't be bothered to ward then it can't be too important. And when people complain be sure to tell them that trinket upgrades are 250.

I do like coin though. Always been a fan of racecar builds. coin and RG. vroom vroom.

item 3341 Not only one person's job to keep the map clear of wards either.

I don't disagree at all. clearing vision is also very important. And you kinda reinforced my point. One support with an upgraded trinket or a sightstone can't do all that is needed. The team needs to help with it or it's pointless. You can clear two or three wards with an upgraded sweeper and then it's on cooldown for a while. That is not enough. The team has to chip in.

The idea that supports are the only ones responsible for warding and clearing is just stupid. You are putting to much on the support when you expect them to be the only one doing it. Which is what happens down here in bronze/silver/gold.

And lets be honest here. A supports job is hard enough without expecting the impossible from them in keeping vision everywhere and the map cleared. As the saying goes "I'll carry you early game if you carry me late game." If you aren't warding you aren't carrying shit.

Downvote away.

I disagree with Frost Queen's Claim being too weak, it's active's saved my ass more times than i can count (and my carry's) that slow is really handy and fills the space for a few AP champs with no reliable slows to help in their kits. Sona comes to mind first and foremost. Sure her E powerchord is a powerful slow (assuming she has some AP to crank it upwards) but Queen's is AoE and just as efficient. (Plus AP Sona's E is basically the coin's active speed buff anyways)

As far as it's AP amount goes, needless to say you swap it out at the end of the game. For a Rabadons or something with a bit more punch. In the meanwhile, the item serves it's purpose brilliantly.

The issue i DO have with AP supports, is the need of the Sightstone. The item gives nothing in terms of building stats which is a damn shame, and delays potential early bullying against late game hypercarries like Vayne and Tristana. Agreed that the wards are worth the buy, but it leaves the support feeling crippled build-wise, which is partly why Sightstone is getting a revisit in preseason. Shame it's not being outright deleted in favor of an expansion of the trinket system, but eh.

you could just do what I do, buy spellthiefs, sit on it until im at max items then sell it for something like zhonyas.

I play AP supports all the time =]], only support item is sightstones, sometimes I don't even get sightstones, just upgrade yellow trinkets.
