Impressions on the new mastery system

So after the initial game without any masteries, the first thought was "holy crap, I used to utilize 19 rune pages with the 20th for people I don't use much, now I only need like 4". The current masteries, while offering more-ish options(only because they're new), are extremely limiting as 5 of the "special" masteries seem to be directly targeted at adc's, only 2 seem useful for tank, 1 for supports, and 1 for mage's. Really don't like how you've killed ap mid champs, the cdr from masteries was potentially game changing against someone without it. Already sick of seeing zed V yasuo every game.

With the arrangement they're in now, the rest of the mastery tree's also appear to heavily favour riots adc centred patch with allot of mobility/utility very early on in the green/purple trees that offer useful stats for lane. Runic armour boosts the offensive vampire mastery, while also boosting the heal summoner/other healing masteries and pots. Not many champs can utilize vampirism as early spell vamp is only efficient on champs like vlad/zac mby, while the life steal aids the dorans blade on an adc, who would've thought? I do like the change in its tree affiliation as now it is accessible by champions who actually want it, however it is clear it's there only so adc's have easy access to it.

Due to this bias towards adc's it appears difficult to assign mastery points for non adc's, as the striking similarity between pages makes it feel as though I'm doing something wrong. It feels unusual that elise, kha, nautilus, Evelyn and nunu can all share the same mastery page, when I used to have special lil pages for each of them The way your points MUST! be completely dedicated to filling each row, is preposterous. It limits the freedom of throwing points where-ever you please, and prevents 3 way mastery trees as from the get go, 15 points are allocated to the first row alone. I've seen the posts about WOW's skill tree and how it "killed" that game, and after looking at it, I completely agree albeit I have no idea of wow's status since I really don't care.

In conclusion I'd much rather have the old masteries, even without the keystones, as if people want to use a page that evenly uses all 3 trees, they won't get a keystone which will put them at a sizeable disadvantage. However if the key stone masteries were to be included, they could be the end game(the reward for filling up one of the trees). I really don't see why they had to over-haul the entire system, when they could simply add these into the already existing system/replace the 21 point masteries with 3 keystones. In the first case, upon filling up a tree with 21 points, you have the option of picking ONE keystone to go along with it. In the second case, upon hitting the 20 point mark, you can choose one keystone in that tree, but the previous 21 point mastery will be gone(tbh those old 21 point ones should replace a keystone in each tree as some are so crap)

Anyway, purely my opinion from what I've observed. It may be wrong, it may be right... Not up to me to decide :)

I completely agree, they claim to give us "meaningful choices" to go with your playstyle bye giving us stronger keystone masteries. But in fact you are now forced to alter your playstyle so it would fit to the keystone that is most op on your champ. Before, I could go 30 points into defense id I really felt like going FULL tank, or go 15/15/0 for a bruiser I'm not familiar with for that extra edge of tankiness early game. Now, I am LIMITED to go for a keystone mastery focused on damage, greatly limiting the build path I could take. Because if I now want some early-game tankyness without buying much tank equip, out of my masteries alone, I have to invest 18 points into Resolve limiting me again to take only rather significantly weaker offensive options AND making me take a whole lot of %def-options that probably wont fit tha build I have in mind. You may ask why I even wanted go offtank on assassins while deathfire touch would be the more efficient choice. Because it's fun, it CAN work out and I was free to take this chance before. Now I can to 4 mastery pages for all champs because most other choices are simply up, stick to the meta with my build path, and stick to playing adcs if I so much as wanted to take at least a few choices on what to buy.

Ths is what playing league feels like since patch 5.22. I finally got to find some time to play other games since its release ;)
