If you're a jungler and you decide "I won't gank this lane for whatever reason" then don't jungle

General Esdeath ··7 votes·6,866 views

Unless your laner says not to, or they're 0/10, you should ALWAYS be trying to help a lane pushed in. It's your job to assist lanes. If you're gonna use this train of logic, please, don't jungle. Go play support, because I don't mind if my support isn't coming to help me mid while I'm under tower or top with the enemy jugnler camping me.

This is almost entirely false. As a jungle you make the decision to go where it benefits the team the most. Hint: It is almost always never the laner that is crying for ganks.

General Esdeath 1 votes

How's this for decision making: your top is under turret, the enemy top has no flash. Your mid is pushing the enemy under their turret, who do you gank?

reaperteaser1 votes

any enemy towers below 40% hp?

General Esdeath 1 votes

Nope, it's around the time everyone is level 3 or 4. No towers were below 80% as far as I saw.

reaperteaser2 votes

then enemy top is asking for a gank. seriously tho, who pushes lane without flash up?

General Esdeath 1 votes

An idiot. Who doesn't GANK this lane? A bigger idiot.

EVG Mike9 votes

Idk bro, where is the enemy jungler? What is the status of the towers? How quickly can laners follow up? Which junglers are on the map? Which toplaners are on the map? What level are all players involved? Which summoners are burned? What vision do you have? What vision do they have? Is your toplaner an idiot? Do you have buffs? Do they have buffs? Does the enemy toplaner have an escape in his kit? Is dragon on the table? Is it worth losing objectives on the other side of the map if the enemy jungler isnt on your side? Will your toplaner throw once you give him a lead?

General Esdeath 1 votes

Enemy jungler just showed mid and went bot, your bot is backing. Towers are all above 80%, your top pinged the enemy top so he's ready. Both top laners are under your tower, Both tops are 5, you're a lvl 4 Lee Sin. Top hasn't warded. Enemy top has no flash. Wind Dragon is up but both bot laners just backed and it's way too early.

EVG Mike2 votes

Way too much vital info missing, but botlane countergank sounds best so far.

General Esdeath 1 votes

Countergank on a lane where all 4 backed? Let me know how that one goes.

big difference between hes already fat enough where a 2v1 wont matter even if you do show up, and knowingly trying to make someone else on the team big and fat somewhere else.

do not pass up on free, that riven is half health ready to tower dive on your laner, (thats freelo) which 9/10 junglers pass up because they're currently on golems and dont want to make the effort to walk top over 20~30seconds and bank on whether or not riven will still be there or whether or not your laner will still be alive. or they wrongly think that riven cant be ganked so its not worth the effort at all.

because that riven should be punished.

but if its a 6-0 darius with cleaver at 8minutes yeah go ahead and call that lane GG and focus somewhere else like mid so they will be able to kill darius with ease.

"i'm never going to gank this lane because i will die and my midlaner doesn't know how to play his champion"

People who whine about their junglers not ganking need to actually learn how to jungle so they understand what the jungler's fucking job is

I have jungled, it's pretty simple but boring as hell.

If you think jungling is simple and boring, you're doing it wrong.

Depends who you take. I used to play Warwick Udyr Shaco MasterYi and of them, only Shaco was fun but that was because it was a game of risk when I played him. For the most part it's farm, look for ganks, watch map for enemy jungler (and check his buffs when you spot him to know where he's been and where he's going), keep some wards around objectives.

Ww udyr and yi have simple kits. I have more fun playing trynd jungle and hecarim tho. Trynd is simple too but I love his spin and slow gank.... most people don't. It's not as simple as you'd think if the enemy jungler is competent. Ganking at the same time as the enemy jungler, making sure you give all lanes enough love to not tilt them, keeping up with your farm, warding for your mid laner since he never freaking wards.... it's about as hard as you make it though.

Thanks for perfectly illustrating my point, dumbass.

General Esdeath 1 votes

Oh man an insult, you got me good! judging from your match history you don't know jungling :^)

That's interesting, last I checked I have a near 70% winrate on every jungler I've played in ranked this season. There are a million variables you need to pay attention to when deciding whether to gank a lane or not. Don't act like you know everything if you haven't spent the time to fully learn the ins and outs of jungle.

Eedat3 votes

I'm not ganking the 3/0 Darius when he's level 6 and I'm level 4. Have fun

General Esdeath 1 votes

What if it's a 0-0 Jayce and you're a level 3 Lee Sin?

BladeSteel2 votes

If I have a choice between the bot lane thats going normal or is ahead or the top lane that is 0-10 im ganking the bot lane.

General Esdeath 3 votes

Hence the "unless" in the post.

Well, I will say that as a Shaco jungler, I won't gank Renekton or Illaoi . It usually just ends up being a kill or double kill for one of those two. They just eat Shaco alive, and ulting against Illaoi only gives her an advantage (She can ult for even more tentacles)

Same with Riven I find, the bitch just topkeks and cleaves everyone down.

But in all honesty I barely gank top lane.. There is not much to be gained from it.

Go top > enemy jungle dragons

Go bot > 2 people to help CC the target, first tower is easier and dragon is present.

No reason to gank toplane.

reaperteaser1 votes

if you get a superfast first clear, a gank top would help out alot when the enemy adc/jgl are too weak to dragon

I'm a Riven main and I always get camped top lane when I play Riven... but when the enemy player snipes my champ and I hafta play a champ I'm no good with, my jungler never comes. :c They always like, "But we get 2v1'd" and all kindsa BS. But if I'm playing Garen, 1 Q and she ded doe... :c

moonborn2 votes

Doesn't seem like you know all ins and outs of jungle. First of all you have to farm your jungle, which is already pretty hard to do so you won't fall behind. Then you have to gank lanes. Now where the issue comes here, is that you can't be farming your jungle and ganking all 3 lanes at the same time., so the jungler always has to choose where to go. Ganking a losing lane is pretty pointless unless whoever is winning is overextending with low health or something like that. Jungling is really the least respected role where people will always whine that something is wrong. This topic already shows that as well.

General Esdeath 1 votes

See, the problem is it's not losing yet, but it's a lane that was countered. The enemy top has no flash, they're under your turret. And I'll talk all the shit I want on this jungler because: A) He said he was a jungle main autofilled and asked for the jungle role so we gave it B) He Decides to tower dive mid at lvl 3 instead of helping the top laner under turret C) He actually asked our mid where he should gank

As a jg main, i'll say this Yes he probably should've ganked, that over-aggresive jayce sounds like what every jg wants their enemy laners to be doing. However I've had situations where this is happening in one lane, but Im across the map and by the time i make my way over the enemy laner has backed or is in a much worse position for me to gank, but that is the only thing i can say in your jg's defense, if he was in topside jg then he definitely should've come and helped u get that jayce.

General Esdeath 1 votes

That's my problem here, he doesn't come just because "my pre-made doesn't want me top". He claimed to be a jg main to get out of supporting but I think he's a liar.

dominusx2 votes

If you are trash and die more than 3 times 1v1 without jungle preassure you get muted and we move along. When i die more than once in lane i make it clear to my jungler DO NOT HELP ME go help other lanes. no point wasting time trying to bring another playing on even terms with the enemy laner cause if you died 2 times you prolly lost a couple of waves so 250gold wont make up for the 2xp bars you lost.

General Esdeath 1 votes

0-0 score for both top laners, what's the reason then? And if you lose a close 1v1 I think you need to give it a gank-ish try before saying not to gank. Unless you're farm heavy like Nasus Jax Gangplank

dominusx2 votes

no. if you lose a 1v1 to a Rene/Riven/Darius or a TANK no point ganking then if one of the first 3 examples gets a lead it can 1v2. if a TANK gets a lead you just gonna take 30seconds to kill him IF you kill him which opens the map for the enemy jungler to do w/e the fk he wants.

General Esdeath 1 votes

Wasn't a tank, it was a Jayce. And if both bot lanes backed I'd say go for it, you got 30 seconds before they get back to their lanes.

Unlucky472 votes

You clearly don't understand how jungling works. Maybe play it for 2 weeks and see how difficult it is to just do what you're saying here?

General Esdeath 1 votes

You're the 3rd guy to say it and you can scroll down and find my answer to the other guy. I've played jungle before, and at one point only jungled. Never had a problem helping any lanes, be it ganks, wards, buffs, or watching the map to warn them of a gank. And never in my life did I say "Well, I'm not coming to your lane because my pre-made said no"

Shuyin1782 votes

I'd like to clarify a few of the issues in your post in the nicest ways possible.

  1. NEVER GANK A LOST CAUSE. If a lane is losing hard enough (matchup varying), then even if you gank that lane odds are they will be useless due to being so far behind giving the fed laner even more kills. ONLY GANK LANES THAT CAN FOLLOW UP AND ALWAYS PING WHEN YOU GO TO GANK, not everyone is able to look at the mini-map every 3 seconds when they're in a hard matchup and trying to get as much CS as their enemy laner allows without getting all-in killed.

  2. You don't have to always assist lanes directly, the in-direct approach is abusing the enemy jungler. If you abuse the enemy jungler enough then it delays them throughout the game and makes their ganks much weaker due to the lack of levels and items. This makes teamfights one man down due to the jungler having less income and levels than their team's support. Also making smite-steals easier due to the level advantage.

  3. USUALLY, only help push lanes into the enemy tower IF THE ENEMY CHAMPION ISN'T ITEM DEPENDENT OR IT'S FAR ENOUGH INTO THE GAME (this applies mainly to top lane only). Sometimes it's best to keep lanes pushed to your own tower. Freezing lanes like this, even if the enemy laner is missing or dead, makes it so they can't return to lane for farm. If setup correctly, the only way they can farm is to either deny their own jungler camps or to put themselves way out of position to be ganked and to die again. If the enemy laner surrenders the lane due to this, as the laner feel free to break the freeze to draw attention back to you so they can't focus down other places of the map without losing towers.

General Esdeath 1 votes

I understand these points but the problem is:

  1. This wasn't lost, it was 0-0

  2. Our jungler was Lee Sin and this was early game, he didn't come near top at all.

ValyrianBlade2 votes

I think this should be restated as "if you're a jungler and unwilling to adapt by ganking a different lane when what you've been doing isn't working, please don't play jungle".

It gets pretty annoying when I'm top lane, constantly pushed in with a control ward in river brush, and never receive a gank when it's practically a certain kill. Meanwhile jungle is ganking mid/bot and not getting anything for it, sometimes even dying because mid/bot sucks / enemy counterganked with no vision.

I don't mind not receiving ganks if the rest of the map is working well. I have no issue being carried. My issue is when I know I could start going and contribute significantly to the team, and meanwhile no resources are sent to my lane and they're wasted elsewhere as we fall farther and farther behind. Even worse if the enemy jungler is camping my lane as I can't even make something happen 1v1 to try to get my team in it.

General Esdeath 1 votes

None of his ganks were working well, but he was only helping his friend in mid.

dim2a1 votes

Often I decide I won't gank toxic lanes. The risk of gank going south is higher (laner might not follow up, might be tilted, etc), and will only get more toxic if it fails.

later in the season I get tryhard pants on and just ignore any toxicity and play same way. But this early? Just not worth it, no ganks for toxic lanes.

So I disagree with your statement here, I enjoy jungle, it is my primary role, and toward the end of the season I go into climb-at-all-costs mode. But until then, I just don't see why I should bother ganking a laner that is toxic.

General Esdeath 1 votes

0-0 lane, top has no flash, and your top has 2 forms of CC while you're Lee Sin. This is the freest gank I have ever seen in my life. This can't go bad unless you're drunk.

Speaking as a jungle main myself this is the way i see the jungle.

  1. MOST junglers main thing to do is farm until 6 as many are useless pre 6 perfect example current warwick. If i am ganking early it better be that your lane is pushed in and you are going to help follow up. If i get stomped trying to help you cause they are 5-6ish and i am 4 i DON'T want to hear you crying about how i am a bad jungler/suck etc or blame me for him getting a kill if you don't help it's not my fault and i will not be back in your lane period.

  2. If your lane is pushed in and i am at the other end of the map i am not rushing up there to bail you out you have to play your lane as well as i have to play my jungle. If i go to a lane everytime it's pushed in leaving my farm i'll fall behind becoming useless so at this point i say either play safer until i get there or i am applying pressure to another lane to force their jungle out to me or to get a tower. My objective is objectives not coming at a call like a dog even if i am on warwick.

  3. I am going to to what is right for the team not just one player. I am not going to keep camping top for my bot lane to be crushed when i can crush that lane. If they are pushing a lot and can't capitalize i am going to bale out bottom as they are holding their own and i can take the damage out of their teams sails. Just like if bot is playing fine crying for ganks and top is holding well and getting pushed in a little and they are wreckless like the bot example above i will crush the top laner.

  4. Considering almost every game i jungle i am usually the tank as well i am of course going to be more worried about my mid and bot doing well cause if they fail we have no damage which means no team fight which means game over. The only times my scores have went negative is when mid and bot fed so hard that i could not fix the issue i rarely go neg when our top looses lane.

These are my 4 main views on how i jungle and that is why i still have a 60%+ win rate on shyvanna and all my scores are high on her even then sometimes with the best basics you can't carry them all.

" Refusing to gank because you have an off meta pick; are losing lane; isnt winning; because your enemy laners bother your jungler or any negative reason , you should not jungle. " this fit better your thread.

General Esdeath 1 votes

No, refusing to gank someone with no flash under their tower is just plain stupidity and proves you don't know jungling.
