Why Guinsoo's Rageblade loses attack speed when built?

It is really weird, as far as I know items should never lose stats when completed. I remember a while ago, when people complained that a fully build item 3157 would make you lose AP (or armor, I don't remember) because the components together had more AP than Zhonya itself. There was also a Twisted Treeline-exclusive item that had the same problem, and I don't know if it was fixed.

I get that Guinsoo's Rageblade recovers that attack speed when you stack the passive, but then wouldn't it be better if it didn't had an attack speed item on its recipe to begin with?

Oh, and before someone says that the double on-hit effect passive is broken? It technically is broken. However, it is balanced out by the fact that Guinsoo is incredibly expensive, is not cost nor stat efficient for many of the champions that could potentially build it, you lose attack speed when completed, and you have to stack it. This item cannot be compared to Sated Devourer, which gave you a lot of attack speed to complement the double on-hit passive, didn't had to be stacked, was always up, and came with an on-hit effect itself.

Yeah I agree when completing an item makes you lose certain stats it feelsbadman. Sterak's Gage is similar. Before you combine it you are getting 25 bonus AD and then when you combine it you LOSE 25 bonus AD and gain some amount of base AD depending on what level you are and what champion you are. So if you have abilities that scale only with bonus AD, they get weaker by completing the item. Certain champions will actually lose total AD by completing it when they are too low level, particularly ranged champs. Miss fortune for example will ALWAYS lose total AD when completing it even at level 18 because her base AD is so low.

If they took out the Recurve Bow from the recipe you're still left with having 1000g to compensate for in the recipe and the only other stat it gives besides AD and AP is AS.

So unless you want them to slap a Long Sword in there and increase the combine cost by 650g there's nothing to really say or do about it if you don't want it to build out of an AS item.

It's there so you can buy something with your gold instead of waiting for the combine cost.

Or they could just give attack speed to the complete Guinsoo

Rageblade is balanced around the premise of locking stats behind the stack mechanic on the passive, why would they ever shave off more than half the AS awarded by the stacks and give it to the user immediately?

That's giving the item a substantial buff for no reason other than "I don't like that Rageblade has a combine cost of 1875g but Riot was nice and disguised part of it with a 1000g item being added to the recipe".

I remember when Madred's bloodrazor had lower base stats then the component items.

Only other item that I can instantly recall having this issue.
