I don't understand why people say "Orianna dominates Worlds" every year.

I looked up some numbers and this doesnt make sense at all.

Lets look at Season 6 Worlds:

was picked 13 times (16% pick rate), banned 0 times, and had a record of 5W-8L (38% winrate)

Season 5 Worlds:

was picked 12 times (17% pick rate), banned 0 times, and had a record of 3W-9L (25% winrate)

Am I missing something here? Because from what I see, she was not a contested pick at all (ZERO bans, low pick rate) and has some pretty abysmal numbers otherwise. How does this translate to "Orianna carries/dominates Worlds"?

Seems like a case of people making false statements and hoping nobody takes the time to check to me. There is absolutely no evidence that suggests Orianna was a powerpick at Worlds recently.

Yeah let's take reddit seriously, according to them everytime a GP with steraks is on the enemy team it's a "tank meta". Draven and twitch are "balanced" caitlyn has been "gutted" with the runaans changes etc.

I've seen people supporting hitler on the league subreddit lol, that place is even worse than here when it comes to champion balance discussions, or people claiming a champion is poorly designed because they have good and bad matchups

It's because ori is a really good champion. Long range, shields, high dmg that can be outputted in 1 go, cc, and can make team faster.

I wouldnt consider her "long range" by any means. Even so, thats just an arbitrary list of some things she can do. You can make any champ sound strong by doing that.

Orianna is a weird pick in the LCS in that she's rarely banned because if midlaners are banned at all it tends to be targeted at the high-risk high-reward mid laners or whatever is Flavor of the Month, but she's a relatively safe pick because she scales well into the mid and late game and has significant utility and a gamechanging ultimate. Honestly part of the complaining is less seeing her at worlds and more that she's a popular and reasonably strong pick right now, they're just retroactively justifying it, but there is some basis for why she's seen reasonably often even if she isn't top tier at any given time.

She's just a jack of all trades. She provides a ton of utility as well as damage. She's really good as a pick if your mid laner picks before the enemy mid laner. She doesn't really have a counter matchup. Most champions that can do well vs her like Syndra are skilllshot champs. Plus she's always useful even when behind.

She is a safe mid laner

However, her issue in the past was, azir and Viktor would be a better pick. At the moment, they have been nerfed that they can't match her in lane anymore. She may not be OP but she is being picked quite a lot of warrant that she needs some sort of nerf in the coming future. I have a good idea that it will be her passive AA

With that said, there are bigger issues

In the last two years lulu has taken oris place as the go to utility mage mid. Many teams at world both years picked her as the poor man's lulu because they didn't have the A- champion pool to go with another champion or B-they got very outdrafted and boxed themselves into not knowing what else to pick.

When picked correctly and when lulu isn't a better version of orianna she crushes.

That doesn't matter for pros(or anyone who can make good use of lulu really). When you're shielding the carry for 600+ buffing their damage out put with Pix while adding 1000hp to their health bar, ADC is all the damage you need provided they are well farmed.

Also, pre q nerf lulu was in fact quite a lethal damage dealer early-mid game. With a 2 second disable, she'd nuke you with QE and finish you off with rather potent autos thanks to pix

Actually that does make sense. Kind of like picking ivern, you lose damage, but the other damage dealers are more protected.

Yeah, it was fun too, however it wasn't healthy for the game. Which is a shame because I quite enjoyed being able to pick a champion mid purely for utility and not damage.

Lulus received some changes. Her passive and... W? Deal nice dmg or used to. Watch some competitive. I think lulu still goes mid once in s blue moon.

People are idiots, I dont want to insult a specific group but I feel that she gets hate from people who play cancer champions, it was always like "oh your champ is so cancer it needs hard nerfs, why isnt he balanced like orianna" and now when she is a bit stronger than the rest they jump to flame back, especially if their champ actually got hard nerfs and is now getting rekt by ori.

Now on the topic, Ori is picked in every worlds because she is a good design which means she can be picked often and be successful, but what really gets her so many picks in pro play is the fact that : 1) she doesnt get rekt by broken champions quite as much because she is safe and can farm out for late game which means you can pick her without knowing your lane oponent which helps win the champ select 2) she is good in organized plays because of her ultimate and general utility. Thats why, not because she is magically broken and auto-wins games or some shit.
