Gangplank feels really awkward to build right now, at least for me

I no longer know which build should I do on Gangplank.

I always did this build: item 3078 item 3158 item 3031 item 3046 (completed with two of those three items depending of the situation: item 3072 item 3036 item 3026)

The problem now is that with the removal of Triforce's crit, this build is really awkward. Before I could achieve 70% crit chance. Now I can only have 50%, which is not enough oftentimes. I could build another crit item to fix it, but then I have to forgo armor penetration, lifesteal, or a defensive item.

Or I could build Gangplank without any crit chance at all and just focus on AD and armor penetration ex: item 3078 item 3158 item 3142 item 3072 item 3156 but this build falls off late game damage-wise due to lack of crit.

Sometimes I wish that Riot introduced another crit chance item that did not included attack speed, and included another stat. For those champions who value crit but do not exactly value attack speed, like Gangplank. It is not that attack speed is bad for him, is that raw AD is better.

What should I actually build on him?

Is there any other champion like that?

Jhin sort of values Attack Speed but not...Attack Speed...you know? Yasuo sort of? I don't know, I'm just cherry picking here, you're right.

Yasuo's Q cooldown decreases with attack speed.

True, but that's apparently not enough incentive for him to build more than a single attack speed item (PD/Shiv) and maybe boots.

I suppose. But more attack speed isn't a bad thing on him.

Jhin, Corki, Lucian, Rengar. those are all I can tell.

They actually all value attack speed in some way, but they would rather stack AD instead of attack speed

There is also Talon, which used to build crit back when Youmuu's Ghostblade had it, but now he no longer does that because he gains very little from building attack speed, thus stacking AD and armor pen is better. If there was another non-attack speed crit item, he would probably build crit once again.

I ended up trying trinity on GP after not playing him for a while. I didn't find myself building crit till my 4th item.

I'm not sure GP really needs crit with how much damage spell blade gives him. Crit helps, but now I want to try my sustain bruiser build on him more.

If you don't build crit, GP's damage falls off late game. This is because apart from the kegs, all he has for damage are his autos (and his Q, which is essentially just an auto too).
