Discussing Akali as a Main in this Meta

I really do implore you guys to actually READ what I wrote before you downvote and even discuss with me in the comments. I check the boards everyday and if you disagree we can talk about it instead of making my post not be seen by anyone.

I've been playing Akali for the past 8 months or so now and she's my favorite champion in league. So as such I'm going to be biased but all within good reason. If you actually care and want to have a conversation about it that's great or you can just not read and downvote as well.

Whatever you believe, take it from someone that has 200k mastery points and 100+ games of Akali in ranked when I say she's not nearly as strong as she used to be. To list out why she's weak:

  1. Less damage
  2. Warlords and vampiric scepter gives half the adcs enough sustain to heal through her damage
  3. supports have way more options as far as shielding and healing which makes already difficult to kill adcs harder to kill
  4. The only decent junglers left are ones with cc that can gank early where Akali is the weakest
  5. Most mid lane picks are just better than her

My trust in Riot has definitely been declining recently with the season 7 changes. It feels like large changes that a majority of the player base doesn't want just go through anyways, and things the players actually want aren't even looked into. This was one of the problems with the Akali rework. Anyone that was on the boards will remember the large number of threads saying that they didn't want the Akali or Shaco changes. Now I'll admit that while I was against it, she is doing better after the buffs. She isn't as good as she was, but she is actually playable as opposed to the rework patch. While I do think the rework was good there's definitely some minor tweaks that could improve her and put her back in a good spot.

Before I get into the buff ideas I would like to point out that Akali wasn't even in a great spot pre-rework. She was average as shown by her winrate/play rate. She was strong against teams that didn't know how to deal with her but that's not a viable reason to nerf a champion. Take Master Yi, Jax, or Xin Zhao for example who do really well in low elo because people don't know how to fight them, and Master Yi is actually getting a decent buff. But enough about that I would like to discuss possible ideas to put Akali in a good spot where she won't be too oppressive and won't be too weak to fulfill her purpose.

  1. Give a small increase in base damage on her ultimate. Nothing major just 20 or so at rank 1 and slightly more at later ranks. If anyone remembers the damage directly after the rework, she wasn't doing more than a supports auto attack with her ult. It was laughable how bad it was.

  2. What I really want to see is her shroud appear at the location she blinks to. Think about what Riot themselves said about her shroud. Not to quote directly but it was something along the lines of "We want it to feel more like an actual smoke bomb". I don't know how many times I've thrown a smoke bomb in my back yard and teleported forward. Don't get me wrong, the blink is nice. The problem is that that's all it is. A blink. A majority of the time, I'm not using it for the tactical advantage that comes with the shroud, I'm using it for a easy jump forward to dodge skillshots. I prefered with old Akali that I could actually USE my shroud and not just leave it behind me when I'm going in. It limits her ability to move and actually do anything for that matter.

  3. We've already discussed this topic, but I still think a large majority of Akali players want her passive switched. You've heard all the arguments about it not making sense and whatever.

  4. A buff idea I was thinking about would be to decrease the time it takes to dash to her target. This would give her more time to actually get her combo off before getting insta cc chained to death. Or it would give her a chance to deal with out of position ADCs before they get ridiculous amounts of shields on them.

So as you can see none of the buffs are too big. They're all within reason. Unfortunately I think a majority of the people that view this thread are just going to be angry bronze adc mains that don't understand the concept of buying MAW so I'm not sure how much progress this threads going to make.

Just some thoughts on how to put Akali in a good spot without breaking her.

I've been maining Akali for roughly 2 years now and I agree that currenty she's not the strongest. However, she has gotten a steady amount of buffs (7th straight buff is on pbe rn) to make her at least playable as something other than tank or a troll pick.

She may not deal as much damage as quickly, but she certainly is healthier with more counter play. Before she used to be feast or famine, now you can get behind early and still be valuable late.

Tbh I really doubt they're going to buff her again for a while because she's not strong but she's not weak anymore either. If you really don't like this mini rework she got then idk what you should do, maybe wait for her full VGU in 2018.

I like most of the rework but like I said I think the passive being switched and the shroud being put at the location she blinks to are just changes that should be happening. They both make sense and are within reason

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the reason she was weak before the rework was because she was intentionally put there due to how feast or famine she was?

She wasn't weak before the rework. She was in kinda a bad spot, but she was still playable and her mains could make her work really well if they invested time into her. Now she's just really all around bad for everyone.

Yeah I agree with this. She feels even more feast or famine now than before. On top of there being some clunkiness with her w and passive that messes with the enjoyment of playing the character.

Yah switch passive, don't like the perma sustain, hard to play against also due to her Q being a weaker version of Panth's, but stronger if you, yunno, actually try to fight her at all.
