The New 120 AP Item [PBE and tentative to change]

Needlessly Large Rod + Aether Wisp + 650g = 3100g +120 Ability Power +7% Movement Speed UNIQUE Passive: Gain charges upon moving or casting. At 100 charges, the next spell hit expends all charges to deal 100 (+15% AP) bonus magic damage to up to 4 targets on hit.

Let's just talk about this item here, overall I do really like this item a lot. Personally I would like to see the item gain +10% Cooldown Reduction and/or have the AP ratio to be +25%AP or +30%AP up from +15%AP; this is my thoughts and opinion though.

Just thought of something: The passive should also grant charges upon Mana Expenditure so that damage per second abilities like Anivia and Karthus can get some love here.

Karthus is good, but I think ticking abilities will be even better. Morgana Cassiopeia Singed Malzahar Every time anything, including minions, walks into or stands in one of their abilities, they get more charge?

Much the same would be true of Rumble too, plus as a melee, he would benefit even more from the movespeed.

Would it work for Heimerdinger Zyra ?

On the other hand, the fact that the proc triggers around where the spell hit could make it quite powerful for poke on champions that already have a long range poke. Imagine throwing a Nidalee spear knowing that even if you hit a minion, you'll still get an explosion of magic damage.

Hmm, you're right. It triggers on hits, but charges on casts. So it may not be as good with ticking abilities and AOE as I thought it would be.

As an Anivia main, this looks tempting, but as I think about it, going against Ahri is gonna be even more annoying with even MORE mobility~

So mobility once again rules the day since they can probably pump out the 100 charges faster without having to sacrifice mana or cooldown costs (as compared to low mobility mages). Unless I'm wrong and movement is not calculated by distance.

As far as it also having CDR, it already adds tons of waveclearing/burst potential, besides there's a few other AP/Mana items that have CDR.

The raised AP % would not help either, as it would REALLY dominate as an item and would likely be heavily nerfed. I think items should have a specific niche set instead of being an all-around must-have items (like some out there now). Can't wait to see it in LIVE though, that way I can either be scared or happy... probably scared.

I was just thinking how it would be both good and bad for Mordekaiser. On one hand it boosts his AoE damage and on the other it makes him push harder then he already does lol...

It scales much better with magic pen than with AP. This means that it synergizes with first items of sorc boots+ abyssal or void or haunting guise.

(It takes 666 ap to double the damage you deal with this shiv. A standard value to double the amount of damage that a champion does with their kit is about 300 ap.) I think some Kat players will rush this item. It gives more damage than any other first purchase, and synergizes nicely with both deathcap and void.

There is actually another item that grants charges on mana expenditure. The numbers haven't been filled in yet.

But, yeah, my first impression was to put this thing on any ap champ that wants to spams abilities, like Sona.

I seen that, it is like a deathcap but for mana would grant high synergy with archangels with a % increase to your max mana- but all evidence been removed from PBE

Agreed about the CDR, the lack of a top tier AP item with CDR is one of the bigger lacks after DFG got removed.

Also agreed on the mana expenditure thing.

I'd like to see either 5% CDR and the movement speed kept, or 15% CDR and the movespeed dropped really, so that we'd have more than one 5% movespeed item.

I can see this being problematic in covering up the weakness of mages with low waveclear. LeBlanc, Nidalee etc. Even mid Sona.

The AP sona burst would be so good on that build, with the extra proc from Lich bane right after the bonus charge off of this new item... Maybe this is why they nerfed her ahead of time...

I think mobile manaless champs will like this item most. Should be good on Ahri or anyone who wants to gank a lane. Getting this and a rylai's should be a nasty combo.

It doesn't have CDR! We need CDR the passive is cool I guess but I'd much rather prefer 15℅ CDR to reach the max.

They should make the charge effect deal a lot more damage, but charge up slower so that it can be used either as a way to boost in combat DPS for a spam based mage, or more bursty for a longer cooldown mage.

I can see it in its current state being ridiculously broken on Cass though, because she can stack it so frequently with her twin fangs and she has a ton of AP for the passive proc.

Cassiopeia will be banned even harder if this comes out. There's nothing about this that doesn't mesh with her kit. Double dipping on MS for more Shiv stakks, more burst in her sustained damage/burst patterns, her passive boosting the bonus damage hard.

I will fucking dodge games with Cassio if this comes out.

I have a really good feeling this item will bring lux back into the game as a consistent pick again and I also see the abuse cassie can bring to this item as well plus I feel like fizz/akali should be watched as well as the items dmg interaction and addition this may have on kennens ult as well.

it would probably be great with snake lady but I think the item will honestly open up more champions and champions who use to be popular coming back into play rather than making the current ones stronger since they already are good with the current items so a new item for new ap champions--- but think of the brand potential though (honestly this may help our fire mage, but he still needs a greater rework, the dude is in a pretty bad spot at the moment and doesn't really fulfill his own unique role that others can do better)

Just make Ahri Q' move speed only proc on champions, otherwise is going to make item nerf. Otherwise, i really like the item, for a lot of mages with almost no mobility low move speed, i really think is a really good option, but again the same problematic champs just get the most of it.

its per spell cast for charging the passive do not know what you are trying to get at about procing things- it charges off of spells and the passive triggers off of spells too

champions that get played now will continue to get played- but this item will definitely open up more champions to get played

I'm reading this thread thinking all of you are high as hell or have never played the game before, like seriously? I thought those would be some of the first comments after reading this, ESPECIALLY given that this new item is a replacement for DFG which is a near-core (if not core) item on both of those champions.
