Other champs buffed to make Yasuo more acceptible?

This is probably just a conspiracy theory, but...

Have you guys ever thought all these extra additions to champs being added all the time (like cutting Kayn's Shadow step cooldown in half on Shadow Assassin form), might simply be to increase alternative champ ban rates while adversely lowering Yasuo's ban rate?

It seems we have a whole slew of 35% Ban rate champions now, where it used to only be 1-2 champions who had this kind of ban fixation.

Sounds counter-intuitive when you could just nerf Yasuo instead of buffing everyone to be on his level.

Or what it actually is:

Riot is testing out some changes to champions, completely separate from conversations about Yasuo.

At the same time, they recognize Yasuo doesn’t need any changes at this time, and thus aren’t making any.

So you think a Spear of Shojin Jax was a successful test? In my experience, even if you 0/10 the Jax, if the game goes long enough to get 2 items, he is suddenly 1v5ing teams who have 2 more items than him. And even if you try to focus him down, he always seems to stop taking damage about 5% HP and having killed all the 5 who were a threat, and then finishes off the rest.

Once he has item 3161 item 3078 item 3053 he can 1v5 any full build champions.

And, ofc, in many games you don't even have the opportunity to end a game before he gets there..... because stallouts.

Here's what makes me suspicious: Every month or two, Riot is introducing a mechanic that increases the power of some skill by 50% on some champion, or an item which favors specific champions. Everyone's complaining damage is too high, yet every change is increasing some utility offensively by 50%?

Riot never used to shift a skill/ability by a 50% boost. Ever.

I mean..... think about this: In Season 8 beginning, they dropped Vayne's Ult Added AD by 30, because it was considered to powerful.

In Season 8 late/Season 9 Start, they instead of adding AD to her ult, added a mechanic where her ult 50% reduces the cooldown of Q. Which..... is arguably more powerful than the AD they shaved off of her R.

Nasus gets both a 50% reduction to Q on Ult AND a doubling of the stacks he gains.

When have you EVER seen Riot make such massive changes to kits? Only recently.

Illabethe1 votes

I know but all the same..... it seems like every month we're incorporating a buff to some random champ to bring them to Yasuo's level..... some buff contingent on a specific evolution, or R use:

-Nasus 50% Q cooldown on R -Vayne 50% Q Cooldown on R -Kayn 50% Reduced "walk through any wall with an 80% move speed boost for 9 seconds on a 4.2 second cooldown" when you choose to go 1-hit Shadow Assassin. -Morgana gains 5/35% move speed during Ult, resetting W when hitting champs/large

It seems like..... either they do this to every champ, or they introduce an item into the game that does it for them. item 3161 item 3124. And it seems like they are going down the list.

Meanwhile, they gut anybody who has success against the URF-like bastard.

  • Camille was a good counter because her ult punished towerdives. So, in one of the nine nerfs three months after her release, they killed the duration earlier and if she died, the ult was gone. That with all the nerfs destroyed any chance of being a viable competitor.
  • Irelia wiped the floor with him before the rework - They removed the basic attack disarm, nerfed her damage, nerfed her W, etc - now she's countered by people she used to counter pre-rework like Yi and Yasuo.
  • Aatrox gets his healing nerfed, damage nerfed - he used to be able to survive off minions enough to handle that godawful broken waveclear Yas has but not anymore.
  • Teemo's about to be rendered useless with his invisibility on a high cooldown, costs mana, and his damage nerfed with his Q on a higher CD/mana cost.

So in short, if your champion is good against Yi or Yasuo expect a massive nerf. After all, can't let the unskilled trash have competition so they can click a button, block/dodge every attack and wipe everybody out with 2 shots.

actually you can actually view teemo as a rework if you poison the enemy you get mega bonus damage per hit after his first hit. also invisiblity is on demand with 5 teemos worth of mobility in it kinda permanent version of vayne ult Q but yes it is weak if used wrong. unless its camo which is useless in close combat or damage disables his invisibility.

Aside from Teemo, all 3 of those other champions were endlessly complained about for being strong. And they were actually too strong, unlike Yasuo.

Didn’t Irelia’s W even get changed to be better against physical as opposed to magic damage? Or was it the other way?

ModWulf Helhammer2 votes

That’s correct. It only reduces physical damage now, which was a method to try and get her out of mid lane.

Which amusing goes against the original comment here, as her W was actually made better against Yasuo. Conspiracy theories..gotta love ‘em /s

I don't think it's possible to lower his banrate without outright breaking every champion. The boards have too much of a hate-boner for the champion for his banrate to really go down short of deleting literally every part of his kit and not replacing it with anything.

5or6stores2 votes

Even if they did, the gag is it didn't work because he still has a 60% banrate.

Frosted Tips1 votes

The reason there are a bunch more 35% banrate champions is because Riot has added more bans to the game. Also because instead of one person choosing all 3 bans now everyone gets 1 ban. It is more likely that when 5 different people ban that more champions rest at a higher banrate.

Illabethe1 votes

You do realize the number of champs has increased by 34 champions since we had a 3 ban per team limit?

Frosted Tips1 votes

Yes and I never said that this was a bad change or anything, but the reason that you see more champions with higher ban rates is due to the bans per team increase.

Illabethe1 votes

6 bans per 109 Champions = 5.5% of champions banned. 10 bans per 143 Champions = 6.9% of champions banned.

Hardly a difference.

Trying to claim that's why we have 30-60% ban rates is ludicrous.

The reason we have high ban rates is because certain champions have a dichotomous relationship to league; Poor mastery players playing them play them far worse than averages of those role tiers, while Good players make them unbearable to exist within a predictive matrix of match favoritism.

Yasuo: -Feeds hard when not mastered, but is still annoying for the other team to the point where people don't want to deal with even a bad Yasuo player, because it takes too much focus away from other things happening. -Is unbearable in pro play, because someone with amazing tasking, predictive play, and obscured angles can literally win a duel with Yasuo before the opponent even sees him. Has the easiest kit in the game to deny any single mistake a player makes. Not only do teams want to deal with the tasking of playing against him, they don't want to risk the chance he will actually play well.

Ezreal: Single most popular high skill adc in the game, consistently a very high pick rate, and periods of outright banship: -When played while not mastered, generally too safe for opponent to create a snowball, but too weak to appropriately farm. Still hits hard and people just want to remove his agency of hitting once for so much damage. -When played mastered, can 1v3 or 1v4, avoiding every skillshot, while landing every skill shot, multiple auto attacks, and getting massive gold leads from Klepto.

-Morgana: Arguably highest utility in the game, but when someone also knows how to damage with her, goes from being a simple champ t both kill and avoid, to a champ that can 1v3 or 1v4 in responsive play. Not necessarily hard to play, but people don't like being denied.

-Sylas: Actually pretty difficult to master.. Every game's ults are different, and teams who run flashy ults do not like him. Also gets banned by those who hate dealing with large slingshot recoveries. People are still also banning because new.
