illaoi should have been micro intensive

would have been a lot cooler to manage tentacle swings individually with her Q

missed an opportunity for a more skillful juggernaut, riot

she fun tho

How would she select the tentacle though?

And wouldn't W be better just because every single one hits?

What's the point of only having one hit?

have her Q select Illaoi herself or the closest tentacle spawn to cursor.

benefits are free aim and not needing to jump in melee range to have some poke. maybe an individual CD instead of one big CD, so if you Q on tentacle you can still Q with another or Illaoi, etc.

the only major issue I haven't been able to solve yet is how messy her ult would get

it looks cool in my head though

Oh, so Q would be basically trading the multi-tentacles of W in return for longer range.

That's sort of neat, but interactions with ultimate or identically close tentacles would be problematic.

Big Lincoln1 votes

I think both could exist, W would be guiding nearby tentacles to a singular point, but you could use this new Q to use a farther tentacle to set up another AoE in their path if they try to run away

What if Q was a click-and-drag? Click on a tentacle and drag it a direction.

Big Lincoln1 votes

That could work, with selfcast making it automatically snap to Illaoi for the regular Q?

Yeah, that sounds simple enough while allowing for more complex and smarter plays.

so much potential with Illaoi, all i can do is hope riot might do it

let me run this idea by you while we're at it; i've never really cared for the current punishment of her E, where tentacles spawn following you. doesn't feel very satisfying even if you end up doing a lot of damage; would you suppose that making her spawn a set number of tentacles around where the spirit dies might feel more rewarding for Illaoi, or less?

have her Q select Illaoi herself or the closest tentacle spawn to cursor.

That sounds more similar to Azir's functionality and I think it would probably move Illaoi to be more like a battlemage than a juggernaut. Not much reason to build tanky when you can just stand at max range and let your pets do all the work.

you could make it limited range so that she still has a small area of influence and still wants to get closer to you, but i can see that concern

I just like the idea that her tentacles are constant threats that Illaoi has to manage well, rather than only mattering if she's close enough to hit you with her W

Personally, I adore absolutely everything about Illaoi. I love her lack of control over her tentacles and how it ties into all the hints that Nagakabouros is just some C'thulhu-esque creature that they are observing and drawing inspiration from although it probably pays no notice to them and doesn't care. I love that when playing her I feel like I need to posture around the tentacles to both get use out of them and keep them protected. I love the lasting and unique punishment from landing an E and find watching the enemy dealing with the tentacles to be super satisfying.

she's been growing on me because I naturally gravitate towards the entire juggernaut class, and Darius/Garen have been feeling a little bit stale for me lately. don't even get me started on how boring Volibear and Trundle are

i dunno, it just strikes me as really weird, and sometimes frustrating, how I can have tentacles cover an entire lane, but the only ones that matter are the ones in my immediate vicinity. I don't imagine her having like, complete lane dominance long-range sniping, so much as being to work Ws in tandem with Q tentacles to create like these gauntlets of damage zones and making the enemy dance around them, and just being a really big danger zone around herself

that sounds like how she works now.

I don't think it's a big change; like I said, I just fancy the idea of being able to do more with her passive, to be able to flex your skill a little more

like, on top of the W making any nearby tentacles swing on them, maybe you could aim Q with a tentacle that spawned just outside your reach to cover another area that's right behind them, and then lining up your own Q to set up even more

somethin' crazy like that, i guess. overall i guess i just don't care for the fact that you have just the targeted W to make your tentacles work, feels really limiting

also what do you like about her E? i've never felt particularly rewarded by it; unless I'm in a position where they have to stay near me and i can just pelt them with damage while they juke, or if I can combo the pull into an ult combo, feels like it's just to annoy them more than it rewards me

You're talking about being able to swing with tentacles within a range from Illaoi, that completely transforms her range of threat and the angles from which she can attack. Making Q a two-press ability also slows down her combo a ton to make it feel totally different even when you're using it from Illaoi's position like you currently do. Nothing about this proposed change is small.

Every time it forces them to back off and run around in circles, that's time they have to waste which is functionally like cc'ing them, it's incredibly powerful. Not to mention that sometimes the tentacles actually connect on the enemy or their team mates.
