What is the point of Mobis right now?

Reaper Review··6 votes·1,478 views

Just looking at the 800g boots as they are now;

Ionians: +45 MS, +10% CDR, +10% SS CDR Swifties: +65 MS, +25% Slow Resist Mobis: +25 MS, increases to 105 when you're not in combat.

Is there any real reason to buy Mobis besides getting places slightly quicker than Swifties? Swifties only grant 40 less MS than active Mobis, but in exchange grant that 40 MS back as in-combat mobility for re-positioning, plus slow resistance.

Never mind the utility Ionians now bring with their 10% CDR for summoner spells.

Here is a list of reasons why a player might buy mobis on a champion and some example champions to go with it.

"Movespeed helps me position while stealthed" Evelynn Khazix Rengar Shaco MonkeyKing

"Mobis help me get in range for my engage/gap closer ability and start more fights" Alistar Annie Blitzcrank JarvanIV LeeSin Leona Pantheon Thresh Volibear Warwick XinZhao Zed

"I have synergy with homeguard + tp" Hecarim Kennen Rammus

"I want to roam during the early and mid game" Bard Katarina Morgana Quinn

"I'm jungling and want to pressure lanes very hard" Ekko Maokai Nidalee Nunu

"I'm support and need a cheap boot option, but don't need more cdr" (an ever shrinking pool) Braum Janna Karma Lulu Nami Sona Soraka Zyra

Mobis were nerfed back when junglers like jarvan were rushing those before upgrading machete for the early cross-map roams. I agree that they need an added boost but I just hope they don't become too dangerous again.

I really haven't even been using them. Find much more power in item 3009 for supports, and then item 3009 item 3047 item 3020 are all great for respective junglers.

They're virtually worthless in my opinion.

If you're a tank, item 3742 offers better out of combat mobility (since it ramps up over time and doesn't stop unless you're hard CCed or use the auto attack proc.

If you're a mage, you don't need that much out of combat mobility, just get Luden's instead, especially since most mages don't want mobs over ionian's or sorc shoes in the first place.

If you're an assassin then sometimes they can be useful. However, having the added slipperiness of swifties trumps mobi boots better roam speed any day.

If you're an ADC, you want the nice new Berzerker greaves or any of the plethora of MS items they can use. Also, slowing down when dealing damage is the opposite of what they want.

If you're support, then I can see these being okay for vision wars and getting good ward coverage and some banks on the cheap. I would still choose swifts every time if I had the choice though.

The problem they have is that when they are strong, they crowd out other boot choices for most champs. Before the nerf to make it really weak in combat, almost anyone would buy them because of the insane roaming speed they offer and the amount of map control you can gain by rotating quickly. Now that they've been nerfed, I don't think they're worth using. In my opinion, they should be completely removed and more items similar to Dead man's plate should be added to take their place in the "out of combat mobility" niche for various roles.

"Cheap" is a non-issue here when Mobis and Swifties are the exact same price.

For that same price, you can get either 65 constant MS, or 105 MS that instantly drops down to T1 boots level the moment you hit someone or get hit by something.

To that end, Soraka is probably the ONLY champion who makes noteworthy use of Mobis since healing allies doesn't disable the speed boost, but even then landing a Q or E will deactivate them. And possibly Janna, but again, doing anything besides using your shield deactivates them. You don't want them on anyone who can poke because you LOSE MS for poking with them. And Bard, for roaming around collecting chimes and doing Bard things.

As for trying to engage with Mobis, that's all fine and good if you have the element of surprise. Otherwise they can just throw something in your general direction and instantly knock 80 MS off of your engage. (Or you're Blitz and your ult passive randomly shocks something and disables the boost, but that's more an issue with Blitz's ult than the boots.)

The tradeoffs would be fine if Mobis were actually cheaper than other options, but at that point they crowd out other options, as was said before. As it stands, they aren't, and I can't see any real reason to ever use them over the consistently reliable Swifties.

If they really wanted to keep the Mobility effect, just fuse it with the Alacrity enchantment.

"Alacrity: Grants +20 additional flat Movement Speed, increasing to +60 additional flat Movement Speed when out-of-combat for 5 seconds."

Only Soraka and Janna? C'mon, Boots of Mobility are still pretty much core on Bard.

It's 475g and super effective if you move a lot and/or you don't need to chase people.

For instance, I buy it on Annie, which let me catch up with those silly long-ranged mages who shoot things from 1+1/2 screen away. Swift has 40 less Ms which could be the difference between getting hit by a slow/CC, and avoiding it to keep the initiation.

That's 325g you save to invest into combat stats.

Preseason adjusted the prices on boots.

Boots of Speed cost 300 now, with Ionian's, Swifties, and Mobis all costing 500 to upgrade to (800 total).

Edit: Added Bard to my earlier post because I forgot about him somehow.
