People troll my games because I pick Vel'koz support.

Linda de Mol··17 votes·10,823 views

Vel'Koz support in low elo isn't bad. It's quite good actually. People don't know how to dodge, I can poke, have massive impact in teamfight with my ult and steal drakes/baron.

I have 52% winrate in ranked with Vel over 370 games. My average kda with him is 3.9/3.6/9.1 and got over 220k mastery points.

However sometimes people go complete nutcrackers when I pick him. They tell me it's a troll pick. For example this Sivir yesterday who run it down in botlane and went 0/8/0 in 15 mins because "if I troll pick Vel, she will troll too". 3 days ago I had the same issue with Miss Fortune who ran it down because "she will not play with a Vel support".

Also people flame me in lobby. Say the most horrible things sometimes because of my pick. I think I lost maybe 8-9 games because my pick triggered a teammate to troll :( I also had to dodge some champ select because my adc then picked Soraka adc for example because " we lost already with a Vel support "

This is really frustrating but I refuse to pick another main in order to make people stop trolling.. I enjoy him the most of all champs so why would I give it up?

If they’re gonna run it down, just take the CS dish out damage and BE THE CARRY. For real.

Then report them for int post-game

it's because youre from NA and Linda plays on EUW. Luck has nothing to do with it.

I thought NA was considered more toxic than EUW?

I played Vel supp too for a while (in normals) and the only toxicity I got was from angry enemies who found it to be cancerous to play against a Vel.

SanKakU2 votes

There is at least one popular streamer from NA that plays Vel'Koz support, so NA is less likely a region to have people rage quitting over the pick. People don't think for themselves and instead look at popular players to see what's 'normal' so I'm sure it's not hard to find some champion that will trigger someone if you pick it, but the region can make a difference because if for no other reason, time zones exist.

Do people lock themselves into regions when looking at streamers? I just assumed that streamers in NA or EUW are interchangeable as long as they speak english.

I have no clue about that industry, never watched a stream.

As far as I understood, SanKakU was linking it to time zones... guess it makes sense: if someone streams at an acceptable hour for him but that in your time zone becomes 3am, then you're very unlikely to follow his live stream.

That indeed does make sense. It didn't occur to me that streams are supposed to be live. I just thought of it like a youtube video (lol).

So I assume this is why I never get to witness some of the strategies that NA players complain about from time to time. No EUW counterpart to copy it from.

Luck has little to do with it but because this dude played less games than Linda so statistically less likely to run into trolls and not because "region difference" myth you believe in

Or have you not seen the extremely toxic rants on these boards with blatant death wishes that mods have to delete every day made by your own region players?

it depends really. as far as "running it down mid" that's an EUW thing primarily. in NA players will just stop trying and continue to hold up a surrender vote.

edit

i'm not saying that NA doesn't have people that are abusive or whatever.

the reason starts to get into politics and culture, but EUW tends to have a more aggressive stance on sports and what constitutes healthy competitiveness.

like i said, it has to do with culture, politics and some other stuff that I don't want to discuss on the boards for fear of being reprimanded by mods.

Tyler1 got punished and had to reform. The only reason we know about him is because he's a meme. You're comparing a streamer that was trying to be a heel in the industry to an entire diverse region. Mathematically speaking that's 1 vs a potentially tens of thousands.

the equivalent would be someone saying that soccer (futball) isn't an american sport and then someone arguing against you with landon donovan or something.

Fuck those people. I fell in love with Ranked after I found out there are fewer of them in Ranked. Nothing like stakes, however minor, to make people give the wierd support a chance rather than guaranteeing the loss by flaming and inting.

Also Vel'koz support is legit. He brings tons of CC and damage in exchange for no shields or heal. Gives me a run for my money every time.

I'd say "see you on the Rift" but we don't play on the same server. GLHF instead. -that Orianna support main

In the times I have played on the EUW servers, I have found them to be the most trigger-happy people I have ever encountered as far as doing ANYTHING that isn't a ridiculously high standard of their own personal opinion mixed with UBER-META picks. Seriously. Plus, the overwhelming majority of the ones I happened across were xenophobic as all get out.

Guess most of these players don't known the game very well. Velkoz is more than viable as a support. His pickrate dropped during the meta shift but he's still on the same tier as other AP supports suitable for the role like Zyra BrandZilean Fiddlesticks. If I had to tell something crazy, you have less chance to win a game Morgana Pyke Thresh Rakan Lulu Taric etc than when picking Velkoz right now.

Busty Demon3 votes

I think it's same as lux isn't supp "mentality".

NOTICE : what i am going to say is just projecting a type of thinking. That doesn't mean i agree with it.

So some think that a mage supp like vel, brand, malz, zerath doesn't have the supp kit, no sheilds or heals and sometimes steal kills. Majority just is triggered by the least action happening and copy pasting toxic behavior without understanding what really can be good for their lane. So they go for the default mode. Pick a supp champ that has a supp kit and let me take the lead.

(Again this isn't my opinion and I don't agree with it.)

Also you can put in consideration that some players have really negative experiences from the past. Call it bad luck, but i have never had a good game with a janna supp :'D i understand her kit and everything but i never had a good experience with that champion. Am not against their mains, but let's say I seem to not work well with janna. Maybe it's my playstyle... Whatever. So whenever i see someone hovering over her i get scared :' D.

I say. Mute all and try ur best then report. Worrying so much about what others think won't give u a satisfying result.

Kinda funny that people will gladly have Brand support but hate Vel’Koz support, even though both are mages with zero “support” aspect.

i know right!

i literally just came out of a ranked game where Kalista adc went 0/10/0 in 15 minutes because she said it was no point in playing with a velkoz support! another 21 lp from me stolen by a troll! this is getting really tilting for me

IainG102 votes

Vel and Kalista really don't work well together, so whoever picked second should have chosen another champion, but with that said that's no excuse for the Kalista to troll.

I mean, the support filter in champ select has to be listing Vel'koz as a support champion for a reason... It's not that much of a troll pick at that point...

(at least in NA it is, not sure if it filters different champions based on region)

in euw it's listed as a support champ in champ select too. Still people go bonkers.

The only thing you can do is just trying to play the game and reporting toxic players after the game.

Truly Prideful2 votes

I would rather lane with a Vel'koz support than many other support picks. At least he's threatening and the person playing him usually actively zones off the enemy laners if we get a lead. I personally have no problem with him as a pick, the people you get are just babies.

FSRER2 votes

Vel'koz is a very powerful champion in general and excels in botlane. Whoever does not understand that is very low elo. Oh, also, shame on you for playing Vel'koz support and ruining the enemy botlane's day

Anatera2 votes

Well, you can blame Riot for not punishing behavior like this.

FioraWillCarry2 votes

Come over to NA. No one has any problems whatsoever with VelKoz support on the NA server. In fact, some may even request it. I guess that's a EU West thing you're dealing with.

Dont let this discourage you, Vel'koz is a VERY viable support, you're not even playing off meta.

Swear when lux gets nerfed she will be a meme-status support as in the all past seasons and Vel will counter her as always.

Vel’koz support is freakin scary. I don’t understand those ADC purists and their mindsets.

IP Masquerena3 votes

They aren't the main carry anymore.

I've lost so many games because the ADC refused to help simply because they didn't got to be the MVP.

Linda de Mol1 votes

Just had this Kalista adc who went 0/10/0 in 15 mins and refused to play with a Vel supp(me) because "vel is no supp so theres no need to play"

So annoying.. in ranked! Another 21 LP lost...boom.

EhtOstäf1 votes

Too bad. The only issue I had with Kalista is her bizarre ult. "Okay, throw me, then what?" LOL

Mimr1 votes

Honestly, Vel'Koz should never have been allowed to go support (just like stuff like Brand, Zyra and Xerath). They just don't have any way to, well, support their ADC besides some CC that is in their kits for self defense and combo setup. Sure, they can work with ADC's that have a good earlygame or who are really safe (Ezreal ) but someone who wants to play, say, Kog'Maw or Jinx is going to be rightfully angry because you provide nothing to alleviate their weak early games. If you want to play a support that can deal damage while you have a Jinx or something, pick Lux or something, that way you have at least a shield to throw out.

Catastroclysm1 votes

Most strong damage supports (vel, brans, zyra) can basically 1v2 a lane while the adc freefarms, if played well.

This takes a LOT more pressure early game, than a shield now and then.

The difference is lategame, if there is a burst threat that can be stopped by an enchanter, lategame becomes easier.

Also enchanters universally require almost 0 mechanics, which takes a lot of the risk away, which a good adc is happy about.

The flipside is they also have much less agency than a damage dealer support.

Essentially, a confident adc will probably prefer an enchanter in solo queue, whereas a confident support player will usually play a damage dealer, or play maker.

TomiMan71 votes

Supporting doesn't necessarily means wiping the adcs butt clean with healing and shielding. This isnt season 2-3 anymore.

Vanic9981 votes

I never encountered people who threatened to int because I picked velkoz support but at rare times I do encounter people who ban velkoz back when I used to hover him. Now I don't hover velkoz anymore because of it.

FioraWillCarry1 votes

He is playing on EU West. I hear they're all LCS wanna-be tryhards over there which means they will flip out over minor shit.

Summoner SpeII1 votes

imo i think velkoz support is pretty good. its velkoz mid that is the troll pick haha. While enemy mid roams and gets so much, my velkoz stays mid and does nothing at all

Catastroclysm1 votes

Unlucky I guess? I don't think I've ever seen anyone complain about having a Vel sup. He's quite good, and always has been.

Before the new style of playing Lux supp came along (aftershock, w max) and they were all just building damage, Vel sup was essentially just Lux supp but better..

Kattzy1 votes

Ugh, I totally hear you. I'm a supp main and vel supp is so effective if you're good at him, but some players just don't understand that.

To commiserate: yesterday I hovered Lux supp (second best win rate supp in my elo at the moment) and my midlaner said "No, she sucks, play a tank." I said no, I want to play Lux, so he picked Braum and told me to go mid. I was like, um, no, I am supp... Fast forward to a loss. He blamed me. Why do teammates think they should get to decide your pick for you, and then troll if you don't do as they say? And not that it should matter, since you can pick any champ you want, but Lux and Vel are both meta enough supps that it's so bizarre to me how these people have reacted.

EhtOstäf1 votes

I actually had my OWN TEAM MATE ban him when I declared my champion. Since then, I never declared my champion. The only people who have problems with Velkoz support based on my experience (I have 800K on him) are ADC's who are also OCD's about KDA's. Most of the time, I don't have any problems with ADC's. They like Velkoz poking prowess.
