Good CS skills cannot get you out of silver

I used to think I could get out of Silver if I had a nearly perfect CS number every time. This, unfortunately, was incorrect as you can see here:

So, instead of focusing on CS, I will try to expand on other parts of the game: warding, team fights, objectives, etc.

You are going off the misconception that doing good in one area is enough to carry you in all of them. It is possible to have plat level last hitting but bronze level map awareness and be stuck in bronze/silver. It is possible to have diamond level mechanics but bronze level game knowledge and be stuck in silver.

In the game you posted you had 4 wards placed the entire game and were only involved in 45% of your team's kills which tells me that you cared more about farming than you did team fighting. You had high damage, but that is because you were able to just farm damage off a swain that sustained off using ult to also farm. Based on your CS and his CS you guys were a farm/sustain lane in which neither of you contributed to your team's actual needs.

In the end the enemy anivia and draven carried the game by eventually grouping and pushing. Everyone in that game had pretty bad kill contribution, so if anyone had a higher level map awareness in order to be more with the team could have severely skewed the results of that game by simply bringing another factor to each fight.

Don't think of league as a "If I just do X perfectly I'll win more games!" That mentality will get you nowhere. You need to have the mindset that you are going to constantly find your weaknesses and make them your strengths. This way you are constantly upping your game. If you just focus on one weakness until it is a strength and then think you've made it to where you need to be you will never climb. In a game like the one you had building a little tanky, maybe a rylais, and helping peel a tad with the slow for cait could have gone a long way. It looks like she literally was just jumped on again and again by the zac and she had no one to help out. Also, you were vs a team that was pretty regen heavy and you didn't have a morello. Morellonomicon would have been useful just for the fact that you were against Swain in lane.

I'll remember your advice. Yes, So I need to think how I can help my team, not just myself. Whether it's peeling for Caitlyn or bringing more map awareness with wards.

Yup, the mentality of constantly trying to figure out what you can bring to the team on top of what you can do for yourself goes a long way. Having good CS is great because more CS = More gold, More gold = more items, more items = more tools to help team. If you would have went a rylais and morello build, warded more and grouped with your team there would have been a greater chance of winning.

During early game I use this mentality: If my team is doing good I am just going to work on myself so I have items for mid game. During mid game my mentality goes to: Who on my team is doing bad? Am I in a position to help them? Who on the enemy team is doing amazing, am I in a position to slow them down or if I attempt to go near them will I contribute to the problem? During late game it goes to: What do I need to do for my team to ensure we win? What can I do to make sure no one gets caught out? Who do I need to focus in the major team fights? Am I in a position to carry? If not, who on my team is? How can I help them?

The longer the game goes the more complex the mentality becomes. This is why you generally want to end games early where you only need to think about a few easy concepts.

I shall do this!

If you're just worried about CS instead of having map presence, great reaction, communication, skill and a whole slew of other things, then no CS is not everything. Having about 6.8k gold by 20min by usually having 200 cs is a standard, not an indication of skill.

I mean, surely 200 CS in 20 minutes is feat rarely seen in Silver? Even Gold players and some that are platinum don't get this many every game.

As for the rest, I'm trying to improve :/.

True. The one draft game I played this year I had 168cs at 20min. That's mostly because I was switching lanes a lot. 200cs isn't impossible, nor is it game winning. 200cs at 20min is just a general standard. In eSports games, I see 280+ cs on ADC at 20min, and that's because the team is trying to beef up the carry.

I stayed in my lane the entire game though, it might be why I lost lol.

And that's not good. Vlad has AoE ult that ramps up damage from all sources. He has team synergy, but you had to bring it.

I got 180 cs in a practice game, by just stayhing in lane and never backing until 20mins. lol?

but whether you get itor not, you cant just stay in lane.. UNLESS you also get your tower wit that.

Basically, there are two wining strategies:

a) roam early, help other lane win, then come back. or b) win lane get tower, then help other lane win as well.

200 by 20 is 100 by 10. That isn't really "standard" more than it's "really freaking good".

More realistic count by 10 is like...60. By 20 more like 120 - 150. If you got 200, you're either fucking amazing, popping off like you're amazing, or you're just not fighting.

Spent the entire game in my lane >.<, I don't know if that counts as amazing though.

I said that I don't get 200cs sometimes. In a healthy game, an good enough ADC will have 200cs by 20min. Maybe not for support. You have to learn to milk every minion and not lose your minions to the enemy tower, or the enemy minions to your tower.

chipndip11 votes

No, you shouldn't be getting 200 by 20 in MOST games, not some games. If that's happening a crap ton with no backlash, you'd be Master+ easy.

Rand0mH3r0X1 votes

I don't think CS could get you past a bot game.

If you're defining 200cs as master level, maybe you should be opening your eyes to the idea of 200cs at 20min instead of shutting it out.

chipndip11 votes

I said "If you're getting 200 cs by 20 minutes very consistently, you should be high elo." (specifically master, but just generally high elo)

Why? Because people fight in lane. People get forced out of lane. People roam. Ganks come in and you have to follow-up. People get ganked. People get camped. People get globally ulted. People go get drag. People go get Herald. You're saying that despite all the random factors based on enemy/ally input, you STILL manage to CONSISTENTLY get 100 cs by 10 minutes? Are you sure? Have you been really keeping an eye on it or are you just bullshitting me? If you can manage that and still function properly on all other fronts, there's no other explanation anyway.

And then 200 by freaking 20. So you just don't group ever? Is that the story? Or is it that when you DO group you take every single gold income source you all come across?

Rand0mH3r0X1 votes

You have to know where to keep the minion wave to farm each and every one. That's pushing somewhere in between the rock structures and staying there.

When you have to rotate, you also take the CS.

If the jungler tries to get 200cs at 20min, that's an afk jungle. If the support gets 200cs at 20min, the game is 4v5. Specifically addressing what a standard is for a good LoL player is 200cs at 20min. You get there by however you need to if you're ADC because the ADC has no other job other than to be a Carry come 15-20min. The mid lane should be roaming. The top lane should be roaming. The lanes rotate with lane opponents until about 15-20min mark and then it's split depending on the team strategy (1 split-pusher with a teleport or global ult).

Stop questioning the principal of the matter. Everything in a league game is situational. Your arguing just makes seem like you refuse to acknowledge your own fault.

If your bot lane is 1/10, you didn't roam at all to try and help. Winning lane and winning the game is more than just outfarming your opponents.

Good CS helps, but that is not everything. When I did my Promos to get out of bronze I was 3/9 Varus that ignored everyone and CSed, but when I saw my team stupidly fighting I roamed up. I had almost double or sometimes triple the amount of CS people had, but that is because they roamed I did not. There are multiple ways you can win games. One is focus on CS and split push only that entire game, Vlad isn't really one of those types of laners. I suggest Yorick/Nasus/Trynd if you want to do that. Another is taking as many objectives as possible. Say you took both top towers already and bot did not. Teleport bot and help take those tower and then do Dragon. To win a game you need**_ Good CS/Map Awareness/Reaction Timing/Itemization/Vision/Objectives/ not brain dead teammates._** Not in any order, Map Awareness/Vision/Objectives can help you out if you have horrible CS and use the brain dead teammates as live bait.

What you did in this game is what most people do to get S's on their champions to get higher emotes and just ignore everyone and get farm.

I would be interested in seeing a replay of this game. Folks so frequently forget that you win in 2 ways. You break a nexus first or vast majority of the enemy team gives up. Point of gold gain is to get into their base and smash it.

Far as branching out and learning more mechanics. Id recommend getting a firm grasp on every champion in the games ability's. If you want to work on map awareness, Jungleing for a while will help ya improve and also as you get more acquainted with the role your gonna understand what they need from you when your in a lane. Also there's big objectives in rivers and they can take towers in any lane with out leavening a tower open to an enemy laner when the roam. So 3 mechanical improvement birds with 1 hypothetical stone. Also there is a few champions like TwistedFate Shen who function better with stronger awareness. I would personally recommend TF as his ulti will give you information on enemy locations and help ya become aware of where folks are moving during a game.

If you want to improve team play , Main support for a bit. A good champ for improving your ability to react to enemy plays is Janna a good champ for making aggressive plays is Leona And then there is Thresh Nami who can do both and require you to do both at the right times to thrive.

The only issue with this is that I one trick Vladimir. Sometimes I take Annie as a support or Mundo for jungle if I get auto filled and take Cassiopeia mid if Vladimir is banned or picked.

I've tried roaming with Vladimir but most people say his roaming potential is weak in a thread I made earlier. Low movement speed, not the best wave clear, etc.

As for each champion's ability, yes, I should definitely spend more time reading the wiki.

Rotation, rotation, rotation. That's the name of the game. If you rank up 300cs but don't move out of your lane you will lose (unless you play a splitpusher and backdoor)
