CDR: ADCs vs Mages

Just wondering why cooldown reduction comes by easier for ADCs than any other role. As someone who likes to play AP mids, I don't see how it's fair for Mages to have to go further out of their way to reach max cdr versus ADCs who end up getting max cdr anyways because of the universal item build. My point is that it seems that ADCs can reach max CDR, while pumping out a lot of damage, while Ability Power based champions end up getting mroe of a tradeoff

no but this way ADC's can have their defensive blues and reach 42 MR while us AP mid laners have to put in for 15% CDR (which doesn't even put us to cap anymore!)

CDR on marksmen isn't a big deal (balance-wise) because they just use it for damage and it's fairly easy to balance their cdr items and abilities. However, trying to balance all the different mages and their cdr when they have so many different aspects about them is much harder. Mage cdr and mana/regen items is a thing that needs addressed for game health, definitely, but it is far easier to balance cdr on marksmen when they only do one thing; damage. When balancing mages they all have incredibly different variations of burst, poke, and waveclear that balance becomes extremely difficult without doing a very large evaluation over many, many aspects of the game. I hope they don't have to wait until next preseason to address all the overarching issues mages have but I would not blame them if they have to wait until then to tackle this beast.

Akali doesn't even need CDR. Her E at rank 5 has a 1 second cool down. Katarina get a (very easy and cheap) kill and everything has no cool down. Warwick Can get a tiny bit of CDR and he spams Q and R.

So yeah not sure why ADC gets high burst and low mana/energy/no resource cool downs.

Adc damage is based on ad, as, crit, and ar pen. So when building your adc you are like what two of these do I want in my next item.

Mage dmg is bound by ap, mana, CDR, Mr pen. So you have to make choices between those.

It's more useful to mages because they do a much higher percentage of their damage with abilities and tend to have more opportunities to use abilities to create game. Additionally, it can actually compete with other primary mage stats when they are buying things. AD carries get less out of it and would never have the option to get it if they had to give up dps, so it's much better to allow a strong amount of it as a single-item purchase that is gated by the rest of the build. So, yeah, it comes at a lower cost to AD carries, but it also provides a much lower benefit and doesn't majorly enhance their build in the same way it can for mages.
