Why is Jarvan able to (EQ) dash while rooted?

Im not talking about rooting him during the cast animation/during the flight. You can root him and he will still be able to do his EQ dash at any point during the root, no problem.

Why is this a thing?

Roots disable movement based spells Neither E nor Q are mobility spells on their own

If kalista is rooted, can she use her Q to dash?

No. Her Q is not a mobility spell on its own, it combines with her passive to do so.

This is the exact same thing as Jarvan, but with two different results. Why is it different?

Ability + Ability isn't the exact same as passive + ability

Also, J4's Q dash is specifically tied to him using it on the flag, it never dashes otherwise, Kalista Q will always dash assuming she can cast it

Moreover, this interaction has been in the game since J4's release 6 years ago, if it's stil in the game, then Riot probably doesn't have an issue with it

Considered terrain based movement, as is amumu toss.

Amumu cannot use Bandage Toss while rooted, Nautlius cannot use Dredge Line while rooted, and Camille cannot use Hookshot while rooted. Hell, Lee Sin cannot even Safeguard himself if he is rooted.

To OP: it's just a feature Jarvan has. There's no mechanics reason for it; it's just something Riot decided to give him. Personally, I am OK with it because it eats up two abilities.

Any spells like that aren't affected.

The only way to stop his Dash would be like a thresh pull, blitz pull.

Or poppy.

Janna

They should be affected. Roots/snares are supposed to stop ALL movement for a duration, not some.

Almost any jump, leap or dash isn't affected by them if they are already in motion.

Im not talking about that. Jarvan can be rooted AND THEN use EQ.

That is not true.

He can only keep going if he had already tossed out his q to the flag.

It is true. He can cast E and Q and be dragged all while immobilized. He will simply remain immobilized when he reaches his flag, assuming the immobilized hasn't worn off by then.

Q is not a mobility spell neither is E

His Q absolutely is a mobility spell.

I can confirm that this happens. It is indeed entirely true.

Probably because neither of them are mobility spells (i.e. Not affected by a root), and are cast separately with a combined effect. The Q pulls you to the flag, but roots only stop movement and mobility spells. They work together to create that mobility, since it's not one spell it's not affected by that CC. If what you're saying is true, that's probably why, I think.

Because j4 is king of the rift. He has tiger's blood and Adonis dna.

because he needs to use half his kit to ignore one specific form of cc?
