Garen's problems can't be solved with a buff or two

I used to love playing Garen but for the past 2 years I nearly touched him. Even with buffs the main issue with Garen is he doesn't have good matchups, he doesn't have a good early, mid or lategame, he is not good at splitpushing and he is not good at teamfighting so generally speaking there is always a better pick than Garen. Why would you ever pick Garen when any of these are open: . Garen doesn't fulfill a niche or any strategy. There is never a clear point where you say: "Yeah this is a good time to pick Garen". His kit is simply outdated and can not compete with the amount of utility, damage, value, consistency of all the other champs.

P.S. Another huge problem for Garen is he doesn't make full use of because he doesn't build . This alone makes him useless as a dualist from mid to lategame.

i would agree with some points, with others i would disagree.

generally most of his matchups suck ass, and he doesnt scale well enough into mid and lategame to justify his trash early game. he doesnt nearly excell well enough at skirmishing and split pushing, nor at team fighting like other top laners do.

id compare Garen more to than darius. even though renekton is not the strongest champion right now, he still has a better early game and actually gets shit done, when he gets ahead.

there were a couple weeks where Garen was actually a stronger champion than Darius . but that was mostly because darius was trash at the time. he got buffed, and conqueror got added.

the strategic niche they wanted to define with garen with the villain mechanic is to make him an anti-carry. due to how sloppy the targeting mechanism is implemented, it often fails to hit the correct target on the enemy team.

as far as item 3057 goes, item 3078 has almost become core on him and is a stronger pick than item 3071 in most scenarios in the current meta. the mana on the item sucks, the attack speed isnt great. but its still worth building triforce over cleaver in most cases just for the damage you get against squishies and turrets.
